Brushmaster
You got the basics to start , now probably another pack of Crossbowmen and Corvus (Sgt) and maybe some bondslaves will help you up to about 1000 points . An Onyx Chevalier and the Golem are also nice to add a bit of variety . Lastly - Arik is an excellent Mage and is great value for points . vejlin
I think you should play a few games with what you have, and get a feel for your playing style and notice what you feel the army needs. As Brushmaster says you've got the basics. My own army consists of the starter, 2 packs of xbows, andras, corvus, Arik, the chevalier and the golem, and allows me lots of variation in smaller games. Steven Page
I've found the chevalier to be of little value in small game(1000>). In 2000 point games he's a great unit for zooming in to finish off that Big something" that needs to go. In 1000 point games I always take 9 crossbows, Andras, and Arik as a unit, giving Arik 2 dispels, to counter the fireballs that are going to be coming their way. Pack them in in two rows, with Arik and Andras in the back, allowing the benefits of their "Ranked" SA. A unit of the Warriors, moving in front as a human shield, will allow the crossbows to close the range with everyone elses archers. Balthion is a great bargain. An effective cleric, and solid fighter. I like the giolem, but feel its nessesary to buy it a movement upgrade. That four inh move is painful.... Good luck;they are a fun army, with lots of variety. vejlin
I've found the chevy to be a hit or miss type unit in small games. I definitely need to practice how to use him. The battles where he's exceled he hasn't even killed too much, but has been around for harassing archers and mages. The opponent needs to divert forces do deal with him, and then he can just zoom away and be at the other end of the battlefield and start over being annoying. The extra initiative card helps too. Qwyksilver
The Chevy works best when he works with others. I've seen him most effectively used when he's been with other Cavalry. As a Solo, he's rather fragile. He's good for racing out to delay a troop at a strategic choke point or trying to wipe out a Mage, but if he doesn't run with friends, he is quickly dead. I am not looking forward to him in conjunction with Count Lorenth and a bunch of Zephyrs. Of course, I'll have to wheel out Sir Danal, some Lion's Lance, and Sir Daman to counter. Spartan6
Yes I play Overlords The Onyx Chevalier can be of dubious utility as he is fragile alone but he's quick and can pick off a mage or a couple pesky archers pretty easy. He's helped Andras drop the Revens troll a couple times too. Andras and Corvus are musts. You can't have too many crossbowmen. Forget the Golem, invest the points in nice warriors and spearmen. The Golem is just a magnet ( no pun intended ) for spells and arrows and other stabby things. A lot of armies are going to outnumber you so make sure your rank and file can fight to the best of their ability, meaning spearmen to back up the warriors. Get Ymrilix. Period. He slices and dices things so nicely he should be sold by RONco. Forget subtlety, just stock up on stuff that hacks and slashes and burns and pillages and plunders!!! Sorry.. Qwyksilver
Andras and Corvus are musts. One strength of the Overlords is that they have several Leaders who can take more than the standard Elite slots. Typically, it's 2 for a Warlord, 1 for a Captain. Andras can bring 2 Elites. Unless you are planning on using those slots, don't bother fielding him. Use another Captain. His big strength is that extra Elite slot. I've seen Andras + Balthon + Ymrilix WAAAAY too many times put to good use. If you plan on going with a Bondslave mob, Iks is a must. His Mob/9 can give you Iks + 6 Spearman + 13 Bondslaves for an ungodly hurt. Definitely review the new Data Cards before you make your purchases. Some of the models have changed. Perhaps the biggest change from the Core Rulebook is that Overlord Warriors are now Adept. The Overlord Faction book should be out soon as well. You might want to wait on future purchases until you have had the opportunity to check out the new Sub-lists available to you.

Which makes sense because he's 112 points... but really, put a couple of Phalanx in his back, and get that Warmaster +5MAV on defensive strikes... very, very nasty. And as Qwyk said, I love to put Lorenth and 2 Zephyrs in a troop, and run the Chevy as a solo along side. Now that the book is shipping, I'll be using Lorenth, a Chevy as an elite, 2 Zephyrs, and a Chevy as a solo along side... Oh yeah, baby, oh yeah! Qwyksilver
You know, it almost sounds like Pete and I have played against each other a time or two...
Stubbdog
I was fortunate enough to win an early copy of the new Overlord book. And I have to say many things in there excite me. Only thing I have found disapointing is the model restrictions in the sublists... For me the Overlords are built around the elites, and there seems to be a real hamstring on those elites in the sublists. But, it wont slow me down, those sublist SAs are too cool not to try them out a few times.
Stubbdog
As for making a good list from what you have. Obviously, if you buy more then the options go up. But, trying to stick with what you have I can create a very affective 1000 point group. Small, yet deceptively power packed. You only have one leader model, so this owuld be two troops (1 troop, 1 solo): troop 1: Andras (greater armor, a particular new 75 pt weapon from the overlord book) 177 Moraia (greater armor, a particular new 75 pt weapon from the overlord book, a particular new 25 pt equipment from the overlord book, lesser move upgrade, leser magic protection, divine favor) 230 3x Crossbows 90 7x warriors 147 --------------------------- 12 models 634 points 1 card Troop 2: Bile 256 ------------------------- 1 model 256 pts 1 card Troop equipment : Totem of battle 100 points Total 13 models, 1000 points, 2 cards. And the list would be valid for the new Khardullis sublist and its SAs.
Brushmaster
OK Stubbdog , where did you get the Overlord book and when is it available , and don't say Soon ™ or I may have to send in the ninjas .
Stubbdog
It was a complete surprise that it was a prize given out at a recent tourney. I can ONLY ASSUME that since I win it, that Reaper must have them pretty much ready to go to public with their next release which would be Nov 27th.
