vutpakdi
I like Anzac Biscuits. Don't see them often here in the US, but I have come across them twice in the last five years. Ron
kristof65
Tim-Tams and ANZAC's rock! I don't eat Tim-Tams very often, as they're so sweet, but kristof - did you know there is a whole plethora of varieties? Two of the really good ones are double-chocolate, and some kinda dark chocolate & nougat thing. Try biting both the ends off a Tim Tam, sticking it in your coffee, then sucking the coffee through it like a straw, then eating the biscuit. Some people swear by this method (I don't do it myself, as I'd rather just eat the damn biscuit!). I don't drink coffee, and I'm like you - I'd rather just eat it. I did try the slam with tea once at the urging of a co-worker, but it wasn't my thing - ruined the taste and texture. I love them frozen. I've had the Double Chocolate, Caramel filled, Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut ones, but my favorites are still the original ones. I swear when I was stationed Down Under that I ate an average of one pack a day. I'd be so frustrated when the local grocery store ran out. I brought a case back with me when I moved back stateside, but they didn't last a month. I was SOOOOoooooooooooo happy when I discovered Cost Plus was carrying them here in the states now. I highly recommend all you living stateside who've never tasted a Tim-Tam to run down to your local Cost Plus (if you have one) and pick up a pack of Arnott's Originals (that's what they call Tim-Tams here). vutpakdi
ANZAC biscuits are definitely one of my favourites - I wouldn't have thought they would appear at all in the 'States! I get them often. Home-made ones are the best. The RSL (Returned Services League - the nation's main veterans association) endorsed "Unibic" brand are the best off the shelf. Sometimes you can get them in beautiful tins which have Gallipoli-style artwork on the front and a story about the ANZAC's inside! I like ANZAC biscuits! Ron - here is the official page at the Australian War Memorial site for the recipe of ANZAC biscuits. There are two provided here - the "original", and the "popular" (basically the "traditional" one that we all grow-up with). Try it out! Thank you for the recipes. I'll have to try them. Not sure if we can get golden syrup here though, so I may have to try using honey to substitute. The first time that I found ANZAC biscuits in the States was in an "All Australian" store in front of, of all places, the Alamo in San Antonio. Another time, there was a large display in a local grocery store. Probably an attempt to enter the US market, but the attempt must have failed since I haven't seen them since. Erion
The weirdest food combination I eat with any sort of regularity is Original oreos with a nice big glass of pink lemonade to dunk them in. Yep.
Qwyksilver
The weirdest food combination I eat with any sort of regularity is Original oreos with a nice big glass of pink lemonade to dunk them in. Where's the green barfing smiley when you need it? That's just gross.
Erion
We have a rule in our house Qwyk: You can't say you don't like a food unless you try it. It's surprisingly tasty.
Qwyksilver
Actually, I have had lemonade right after eating oreos. And the combination did not sit well with me.
Erion
I'd agree. Regular lemonade with oreos tastes terrible. But there's something less tart about the pink lemonade that makes it not just palatable, but quite yummy.
shizzleton
Whenever I listen to the song Open Face Surgery (by Cryptopsy) I always get a craving for a 20 pound burrito. Then I think to myself, "James, now you're just being silly," and I go back to eating my 50 pound super-biggie-mega-super-size-fat-as-crap-fries. To think, a 20 pound burrito... Kheprera
Serious bump. My hubby and I were enjoying some hot chocolate with whipped cream the other day (the Redi-Whip from the can kind). Thomas (2 1/2 year old) insisted we put some on his Tang (instant orange breakfast drink). He loved it.
pae
I suppose that's not too far removed from Orange Sherbet & Vanilla ice cream mixed together, which I happen to like quite a bit. Tang, on the other hand, is nasty.
Shakandara
Or a creamsicle, for that matter. Ever poured Dr. Pepper and Sunkist soda into the same cup? Same effect, as Dr. Pepper is a vanilla-based cola. ~v
mattmcl
Or one of those chocolate oranges. Those are good too. I love milk shakes with 1/2 vanilla ice cream and 1/2 orange sherbet.
Shakandara
I never could stomach chocolate and orange together. I love both individually, but not together. Chocolate and raspberries on the other hand... that would count as one of the few things that I actually crave from time to time. ~v
vutpakdi
Sometimes flavors work together in strange ways for most people. For example, I used to make these plain lemon- poppy seed cookies. Then, one day, I decided to try dipping a few of a batch in chocolate. The combination sounds a bit odd, but most of the people that have tried the chocolate dipped lemon-poppy seed cookies love the combination.
