DHL 3012, Olivia, Female Musketeer

So I was mad at my minis last night...I was trying to paint, but I was just in that mood where I hated everything I'd already started.

So I looked in my drawer of primed-but-not-painted minis, and there's Olivia...she serves no game or display purpose right now (purchased her as a candidate for a PC, and a more suitable mini was chosen), so I decided to do something crazy.

Colors I would never normally put next to each other...she doesn't look especially horrid, either. All told, I think this was between 2 and three hours of work, the fasted I've ever painted a mini with highlights and shading. And she was fairly fun, so I'm happy. Oh, I made sure to include an inset so you can see the Worst Face Ever...her eyes are just...blobbish. Meh.

Tell me what you think!

The face unfortunately doesn't look all that great. The rest of the mini is nice overall.

Lord Robert, the face is actually pretty smooth. I painted this one just a few weeks ago and the face had some hard angles to reach but otherwise it was fine. I think in this case the paint wasn't thin enough.

Try thinning out the paint a little more to get really smooth skintones. Otherwise it looks good.

Thanks for the comments, folks. Lord Robert, I must say I would never have thought this mini was worth an 8 on most scales, so I thank you for that.

The face...well, the face certainly has its prolems. An issue with this particular mini is the really ugly mold line on her cheek. You can see it fairly clearly in the inset closeup. I did quite a bit (there was originally a huge bit of flash where I think the molds had some space between them) to clean it up, but this also, as I said, was something of a throwaway piece (not that I'll throw her away!). Interesting how different two castings of the same mold can be.

The skin...well, again, I went pretty quickly here. The skintones were actually thinned more than any other paints on her, but I only did one layer, without any glazing or other attempts to smooth it out. That's the only excuse I can provide for the ridiculously unblendedness of her cheeks.

So for the work I did on the face, I will happily accept a "4." Thanks again.

Flash lines usually meet my sharpest Xacto blade, plus I have a variety of little jeweler's files. Dremel polishing wheels, and so forth. Usually I'll use any or all of these, but since this particular flash line on Olivia, here, was in THE hard-to-reach place on the mini, I got lazy.
