Mr.Wizard
Hi all, I snapped this beginner-photo of a Shadow Dragon whose coloration was inspired by nature. I have the contrast that I wanted, but am now unsure of how to dry-brush the ultramarine to bring out the texture with out destroying the contrast. Please advise???? Flit
Um....very carfully with a small brush? Actually, it seems to me that this kind of color scheme lends itself better to layering. Which is probably why you don't see it too much. It is a really intersting and different way to approach painting dragons and it looks like you are off to a good start. I have been thinking about using a tropical fish type scheme on some mermaids, but never thought of using it for a dragon. Good luck and have fun with it! Be sure to post the finished dragon too! CuCulain42
You could always try thin stips od masking tape. It should flex enought so you can follow the curves and sice you're drybrushing even if there are small gaps under the tape you shouldn't get paint running under it. I was going to suggest doing all in blue then going back again for the yellow in strips... Giant freehand style. Yours is muuuuch better. Hmmm... I wonder if you could do the same with masking fluid? (Never used it but I've looked at the bottle many times when in art stores...)
Mr.Wizard
Masking is an excellent idea. While I do not have masking fluid, I do have some nice low-tack Tamiya tape. I will use that on the stripes. Thanks for looking at the photo, and I will defitely post when it is done. Mr.Wizard
