Vil-hatarn
Second Possible - Default List Danithal - 150 Ardynn - 110 Unicorn - 57 Fae - 42 Hunt Cat - 49 Meridh - 30 Satyr War - 53 Satyr War - 53 Lng Thrn - 31 Lng Thrn - 31 Arnise - 67 Irith - 62 Dth Skr - 52 Dth Skr - 52 Dth Skr - 52 Eagle - 110 Danithal has Poison x 2, Counterspell, Bolt [25] Ardynn has Arcane Blast, Bolt x 3, Shockwave [45] 1001 pt list I am just guessing here - reading more and will certainly learn by trial and error - but of course I would love comments, tweaks, etc to better help me squash the marauding mercs.... The death seeker unit looks like a lot of fun. You'll need to distract his archers with something, though, or they won't last long--perhaps sending the eagle in their direction. I'd take less spells, overall--you're unlikely to have a chance to cast 4-5 spells with what are effectively combat characters. I'd probably drop them to two spells each; use the surplus to throw a vale warrior or two into their unit. The support bonuses will be worth it. Mclimbin
It seems to me that one of the strengths of the Deathseekers is that they can not be shaken (they have Fearless). Because of this, I like to attack the Deathseekers' melee opponents with ranged or spell attacks from within the troop (or even from another troop). Your spells are good but you don't have much in the way of ranged. Just sayin' Edited January 7, 2008 by Mclimbin

Maybe I don't understand magic - can't you use magic each turn that figure is not in combat? All spells except Shockwave can be cast defensively - which I thought was probably a good thing... :) Your spells are good but you don't have much in the way of ranged. Just sayin' But all my spells save counterspell have 18" range don't they? assuming Chiral can take an elite Nope! I'd suggest mixing up the troop types a bit more, where the adept/troop limits allow. For example, having two matching units each containing a ranger, hunting cat, vale warrior, and something else is more versatile than the thematic divisions you have going here. Very good point - thank you!! I will post a revised list for comment soon....
Vil-hatarn
Regarding magic: it's mostly 18" range. Average Mov is around 6. That gives you approximately one turn in spell range, but out of close combat (accounting for enemies moving towards you). Make it two or three in case there's a break in combat or for special cases, and you're all set. Making them all defensive-capable is very good, helps discourage casting towards your troops. Now, for a dedicated mage like Lysette or the captain, 4-5 spells is about right, since they'll be avoiding combat and thus get a few more turns to cast. They'll also do more with said spells, having much higher CPs.

Gaming Glen
Decided to get into the game when someone at MY (as in, I'm part owner) LGS mentioned they couldn't find anyone else to play the game with and his comment about "if you don't feel like role-playing but want to bash heads fantasy-style, this is the game for it" got to me. I've been out of the RP mood for some time (been doing that off and on for nearly 30 years). Since I like elves, and had painted Caerwynn to use in a long-gone D&D campaign (gave the character a different name) I decided to go with the elves. My store was out of the rulebook, so ordered another, and picked out some Warlord elves for someone else to paint (I've gotten lazy and eyesight not so good for the details any more). Just downloaded the RC and printed it. Now for a few questions. "Argyrian, Silver Dragon" uses the Silver Dragon miniature from the DHL line? (great! a dragon! I thought ole Mossbeard would be my only 'monster') I have a couple other figures from the DHL line (ordered the square bases to put them on, also) and wondered what character/troop they best fit: Lindir, elf archer - any archer type? Cleo, weretigress - hunting cat? (she's actually painted black as a werepanther) Liriel Silverlocks - caster type? Which brings up another question: any 'bard' like abilities in Warlord? Or what spells can simulate them if Liriel takes a role of mage or cleric? Glen Dragon's Lair Games Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Feanor
Happy to have you here GamingGlen, and welcome to the Vale. I used the silver dragon but you can use any dragon you want, pick the one you think looks cool. Linder makes a great archer and cleo works fine too thats one thing thats so great about warlord use whatever minis you like :) I have considered getting Liriel as a troop musician for some time. Troop musicians add 1 inch of movement to the whole troop. Happy gaming and good luck
Qwyksilver
Glen, check out the pinned Offical paint and proxy rules in the Warlord Rules Discussion forum. You will find the rules are exceedingly open. Welcome to the boards and the game. Feel free to ask questions. We're a generally helpful bunch. Gaming Glen
Glen, check out the pinned Offical paint and proxy rules in the Warlord Rules Discussion forum. You will find the rules are exceedingly open. Welcome to the boards and the game. Feel free to ask questions. We're a generally helpful bunch. I've read those already. I'm just curious as to others' opinions on best fit of the miniature to a model. But it is all subjective. Glad I can use any dragon, I like the amber dragon miniature so I may use that for the silver dragon. I do have many older miniatures from other lines now out of production. I have many Runequest/Glorantha miniatures I'd love to play with (since I can never get a Runequest RP campaign going); perhaps I could make a Reptus army from my many dragonewts. I have three centaurs, a bit small, I could use for the elves; although the non-weapon naked-torso female centaur doesn't quite fit any of the centaur types of the Warlord data cards. Perhaps the basic Centaur Warrior with an added ability would suffice? She might provide a distraction when in play . (....checks RC....) You cannot give someone the ability to cast spells? *sigh*
Feanor
Ahh... A casting centaur what a glorious idea.
shakhak
Has anyone seen a painted Hunting Cat around anywhere? I can't make up my mind on whether I love or hate the new hunting cat, but some MSPs clinging to that fur would really help bring out what Reaper was going for. rgtriplec
I put in another thread I thought it looked like an prehistoric alley cat. The arched back is too Halloween black cat for my taste. I was thinking something more like mountain lions or sabertooth cats. I'll be proxying Jason Weibe's Sabertooth. It's funny, that link says Garrity and the old one they took down said Guthrie. It is also listed as Guthrie at Miniature-Giant.
herzogbrian
Larnach's alright, but the pose on the royal guardself is bothering me...it looks like he has a back injury or something. Hopefully the others will be a bit better, because their stats seem pretty good. My son says he looks like General Grevious coughing. I tend to agree. I stood mine up about 15-20 degrees, brought the right arm forward and the left down a bit with the arm perp. to the body. He looks a lot more like he is stalking in for the kill that way. Anyone have a good proxy for the ranger. Not sure WHAT they were thinking with the official one. Just my 2p worth, Brian
Feanor
"Anyone have a good proxy for the ranger. lukash
My guess is that it's a Sandra Garrity figure. It looks more like her work than Julie's, although the base is throwing me off a little. Some of the fur along the front shoulders screams "Garrrity" to me.
