Kengar
So the Dwarf King got a makeover like everyone else. He's definitely not as expensive as before. I'm not a dwarf player but here's my take. 5 damage tracks = good MAV6= pretty good DV & MV = 14 v. good 4 attacks = good SA's = good Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he used to have a ranged attack as well (his falcon, I guess)? Seems he lost that. I guess he's pretty solid, but unless I'm missing something, he's kinda generic now. I don't really see much that sets him apart much from other combat warlords. Thumbs up for playability, thumbs down on uniqueness.
wildbill
Well, you can poo-poo his uniqueness all you want. I was one of the biggest opponents to v1.2 King Thorgram. Yes, he lost his Ranged attack. Thank gawd for that! It was a waste of points. Until the Dwarves got more than one warlord choice, I refused to play them in a battle in which a warlord was required. That's why I branched out into other armies. When Logan came out, I tried him but his DV sucked so bad he wasn't worth it. Then when Herryk came out I used him, but with only 2 attacks, you had to use his Cleric ability to make him any good. NOW...unless I want a cleric warlord for some reason, I will be fielding King Thorgram almost exclusively now. I will probably never play Logan again. He's too wussy still. I don't really care if Thorgram is "generic". I'm glad I have a real warlord I can field on the table!! I was tired of playing with a warlord I thought sucked. At Thorgram is now really solid for a decent price. Wild Bill
Storminator
He's the only melee warlord with Trencher. He's got great DV and his DV stays high deep into his tracks. He's got DV 13 with 4 wounds! Compare to Khufu, who's DV is 8 at that point. He's a solid brick, just like a Dwarf King should be. PS
Voladilk
He is the reason my new Dwarf army (on it's way from Reaper as we speak!) has him at the helm!!
spiritual_exorcist
Thorgram is a premium Warlord under the new system, due to his streamlined cost effictiveness. THere isn't any ability or statistic that doesn't have a high liklihood of seeing action in just about every game, and he is pretty cheap. I'd currently put him with Mattise and Boris Mingla as most cost effective melee Warlords in the game. And the King has an extra damage track over either of those. Not to say there arn't better melee Warlord, just that he is a bargain considering his 118 points. A model like Gerard might be sweet, but at 132 you're paying for Clerical abilities, Smite, and Healer that might not ever get used, the King has none of that. He isn't bland, he is nearly perfect. jdripley
I guess I'm the only one crazy enough to miss his ranged attack! Though I don't mind one bit his new cost. I've actually only used him once... Not that I've played a terribly large number of games since the changes.. but I've tried them all out. Thorgram's definately a significant presence on the battlefield! When I used him he single handedly wrecked an Overlord cavalry charge. Granted in that example luck played heavily in my favor... and I did lose him in the process. But he took the very best the enemy had to offer, grabbed it by the throat and threw it on the ground. I was very happy with him. I guess we went from "capable of anything but excelling at nothing" to "capable of one thing and darned good at it." I'll miss having the annoyance factor of his ranged attack, but I'm very glad that his DV is higher now. That, to me, is the biggest thing he has going for him. I don't need to coordinate my entire army around controlling what's going on around Thorgram anymore since he can take care of himself. Looking at the model he's at DV 10 when you hit his fourth DT?

DV13 on DT=4 (it's his 5th damage track, including DT=0, but let's not quibble) Not Battlefury, my friend, Grimsteel! PS
wrightjd
Am I looking at the wrong card? Yeah the one I have is much different than the one on reapergames. You are right good sir, he is a force to be reckoned with and tough as an anvil.
rgtriplec
I never took the King in the first incarnation. He was useless, beyond useless, he was actually detrimental to success in a required game because he drained so many points from the build. But now he pretty much rules, solid as a rock and with armor... WOW.
