mattmcl
This was my entry into the DHL Small category at ReaperCon 07. I didn't place, but I received a lot of constructive feedback. This was my first attempt at NMM. Comments and critiques are welcome.
Evilbob
I really like that matt. The NMM may not be as smooth as say Flynn's (but come on who's is?) but it looks like metal, and it looks worn. THe colors are great too.
Angela Landt
This was my entry into the DHL Small category at ReaperCon. I didn't place, but I received a lot of constructive feedback. This was my first attempt at NMM. Comments and critiques are welcome. I really liked your paintjob on this mini, and I was very surprised you didn't place. I'd picked it in my top three in DHL Small, if that's any consolation.
LordColdsteal
I really like this guy. For you first NMM, this is really good. I think a few higher whites might have helped some, but I really really like its look. I think the red looks too pink, but you might have been going for that. It is so hard to bring up red. I find it better to give it dark shadows. Excellent work.
Artists Wren Posted May 23, 2007 Artists Share Posted May 23, 2007 I really liked this guy, particularly the way the metal areas had a dark overall look, but some very bright highlights. I like the beard and hair on him a lot, too.
1st_Marshal
Hey Matt, Like we discussed at con, I think this figure came awfully close to placing. Very good NMM. Keep up the good work! Will see you next month at Attactix. Doug
Mengu
Yes, this was definitely in my top 5 if not top 3 for the DHL small entries. I would have liked to give it a closer examination. If that's a first attempt at NMM, I'm even more impressed.
mattmcl
Thanks for all the compliments. I did have a really hard time getting the red to pop. Judges comments included highlighting around the bands of leather on the handle of the axe, highlighting the skull at the very front of his helmet, more definition in the mustache just under his nose, a fuzzy darkline on the top of his backpack, and a piece of flash that I took to be an ornament on the back of the helmet. The judges DID miss some unpainted bits under his arms too.
Prophet
If yours didnt even place I would love to see the ones that did. Great job.
Deguello
Very nice... Hard to believe you didn't place.
mattmcl
Yeah, the competition in this category was pretty fierce. The winners were outstanding. I am taking some consolation in the fact that this mini is currently 7.7 on cmon, which is a 1.5 point jump from my last mini.
Hells_Clown
If you hadn't mentioned it was NMM I don't think I would have recognized it, and I mean that as a compliment. It looks like real metal, which I think is cool.
mattmcl
Thanks HC. I was going for more of a worn look, rather than pristine shiny plate. I started out a lot lighter, but the armor looked more like aluminum than iron or steel.
Lawgiver
Very tight competition. Yours is a great paint job by any standards
