Large Base Figures

Okay I love beastmen armies and am looking to replace most of my orcs with gnolls, bugbears, Lionmen, etc.

 

Here's the problem, I will not be able to get most of the guys on a 1 inch base. Is there something I can add to balance the increase in frontage that would be an even trade?

I suppose if it's just for friendly games, whatever flies, flies. However you're putting yourself at a pretty significant disadvantage if you're using large bases.

 

If you're trying to stick with the Reven datacards and Reven Faction Abilities, I think you're kinda stuck :(

 

However if you're open to going Freelance, there are plenty of large based models and you can make a pretty decent list using only those models. Dunno if that's the "feel" you want though - typically the large based models are extra tough, might not carry the flavor of a horde of animal-men. Or maybe that's just my idea of what a beastman army would be like!

Go freelance and take Lupines and Minatours, Woodcutters, the celestial lion, Hound of Judgement, Garn, Wardogs, the Avatar, Anubus guards, Ammat, Devourers, Sphinx, and the Griffin. Not quite bugbears but its very animal flavored.

I had a similar idea, and for what it's worth each model from 2818: Bugbear Warriors and 3040: Hobgoblins can fit on a 1" base with a little trimming.

Yeah, you can fit some big models on 1" bases, some of the Bull Orc leaders and elites are as big as the DHL bugbears.
