Army Faction Special Abilities Public Beta

Recommended Posts

OK, the Army Faction Special Abilities Public Beta document is available in the Featured Downloads section. The plan is to remove the word Beta sometime next week.

Please email me at [email protected] if you find any typos. Also, if you see any Faction you feel, after playing it at least a few times, is getting shafted on their Army FAs, let me know that too. ::):

Going to give it some play testing, but I can already tell I'm going to fell the Sublist of Aurellius is going to need a little bit more umph.

:EDIT: And that Jade strike is going to be very, very scary to play against with a melee army.

Actually, since your doing a Revised Beta of the Chronicles, Atifa used to become non-unique in a Desert Wind sub-list, as of now I only have 3 unique elite with nothing I can duplicate. Was this an oversight, or on purpose? It made a difference when a friend asked me to make a 3000 point list.

Also, concerning a change of heart. Should it be restricted to non-Warlord models, as I believe was the intent of forcing Orba to be in your army originally. Or can Judas now lead the sisters of the blade into battle?

it doesn't specifically say it in the sa description or in the elves faction description . . . does sure shot still ignore lock shields?

This is what is says in the Public Beta for faction abilities. Lock Shields can only be negated by Ranged Attacks with the Blowthrough SA.

The Onyx Phalanx have been trained to work together to protect themselves from ranged attacks.

Certain models may perform the Lock Shields action. All Models that conduct a Locked Shields

action and have at least two other Models conducting Lock Shields in valid B2B Contact with

them, are immune to Ranged Attacks, unless the Ranged Attack is made with the Blowthrough

SA.

A Lock Shields action requires an Invoke Action, and lasts until the Model’s next Activation, or

until they perform any Action other than Lock Shields, including Defensive Strikes.

If at any time the Model no longer has the requisite 2 other Models that have performed Lock

Shields in valid B2B Contact, it is no longer under the effects of Lock Shields.

The following Models may perform a Lock Shields action: Onyx Phalanx and Merack.

:EDIT: And that Jade strike is going to be very, very scary to play against with a melee army.

Jade Strike is going to be a pain to deal with, but I like it because it adds flavor to the Reptus.

2 things I noticed in the Nogra sublist:

---You be leader has a typo - check the last sentence again.

---hey we come to - wording is wierd - "/1" means it can take up to one elite - the description states "at least one."

One thing with the Dwarves:

---They don't have Mt. God's Breath anymore. Since they've got quite a few clerics it would make sense to put this back in. Have it add +2 movement, and cost 10 or 15 points, and you're good to go.

Four things with Darkspawn, Mercs, Dwarves and Elves:

--- They're all the same - no sublists! Is this because they're going to have extra amazing sublists and it's taking more time to cook them up? Let us know if you want ideas for sublists, ok?

Well, it looks fairly obvious elves are going to get a woodland creatures sublist--all those fairy creatures, the hunting cat, the silver dragon warlord, the rangers, plus the existing treeman, eagle...my impression was that the sublists would be part of the KJ and Chronicles.

Sublists for Elves and Darkspawn are getting initial inhouse playtesting now. Yes, the elves will get a woodland creatures sublist. Dwarves will not be getting a sub-list in the immediate future, nor will they be getting Mountain God's Breath (they don't need any more help). <_<

jdripley: Good catch, I'll make those Nogra changes. ::):

Army of Justice:

Disappointed to see the Armor of the Faithful ability get neutered from the idea I initially heard it was going to be (minimum static DV of 10). Not sure Deflect/1 is really enough. They need two solid abilities, of which Judgement is for sure one, but they need a second one to make them worth taking against non-evil armies, and Deflect/1 + Fearless doesn't do it for me (Glad to see they do get Fearless though). I see it as likely hinging on the heavy advantage it gives to Valandil, Marcus Gideon, and the IronSpines, DV 10 otherwise doesn't give models in the sub-faction anything but a minor boost on their last track or two (and doesn't help many models at all).

I have to ask this again, because I don't think it was ever resolved, can I wait to decide which sub-list/faction abilities I'm using until I know the faction my opponent is playing (therefore making it worthwhile to build an army of Justice build that also conform to the default list, which nearly all would do if you don't take multiple Lions and Hounds of Judgement)? If the answer is yes, then I can see myself using an amry of Justice Sub-list, and choosing to employ it as such against evil forces, or choosing to use it as a default against non-evil ones. If the answer is 'no', then I can't see myself giving up the chance to use Mercy, if all i'm going to receive in return is Deflect/1 and Fearless.

Here's a suggestion, In addition to Deflect/1 and Fearless (or in addition to Fearless and dropping Deflect /1 if need be), what about adding an army of Justice ability that adds +2 to each leaders maximum troop size, it seems in character with the Crusaders that they have strong charismatic leaders. Doing so might be enough to get me to play the sub-faction, or is this too similar to the Reven's Horde ability? I'm open to any ideas, but right now it doesn't seem like the army of justice have enough of a faction ability when facing non-evil armies, which was a large part of why I never fielded them in the last edition, and at least in that version they had the incentive of making Templars Grunts, which isn't there now at all.

ANyway, just thoughts, pretty happy with everything else.

PS: Just for clarity and to put two related items together, I'd take the addition of the Fearless ability out of 'Armor of the Faithful' and put it into 'Shield of Faith', as currently the description of 'Shield of Faith' is linked to the notion of Fearless models in the army, discounting those granted Fearless by 'Armor of the Faithful':

Shield of Faith:

Crusader models fielded in an Army of Justice sub-list gain the Fearless special ability, while those already possessing Fearless gain the added benefit of retaining Fearless when facing a Necropolis (default) or Crypt Legion army, despite their faction ability: Fear of Undeath.

What? No sublist  They don't need any more help

I was hoping we'd a family friendly sublist where if you take the King, Freya can become the king's bodyguard and change from leader to elite and the shieldmaidens would be not counted as adepts in the king's troupe. Or, if you take Logan, you can take Logrim as his bodyguard and you get Berserkers as a free adept in his troupe.

It would be a beautiful thing.
