Cerridwyn1st
I have a LOT of unfinished models in my paint area. I have a two-tiered Lazy Susan with my inks on the bottom and a lot of unfinished models on top. There are a few finished pieces there too. The worst of my LSOS examples are pieces that other painters looked at, and then I never touched them again. I'm thinking now of going back to these pieces and painting them up. I'll start with Jade, and post other pieces here as I get pictures of them. Cerridwyn1st
I took my base color and added dark purple, then put in my shadows. I also worked on the underpainting to imply shear cloth over skin.
Versutus Vulpes
I find WIPs help keep me focused on what I am trying to get done which is of course - trying to get them finished. I especially have a hard time forcing myself to do bases (cause that means its over maybe?)... Anyhow - I like how you are doing the fabric on this - I've contemplated doing sheer before - but Never had the gumption to really do it. I also like the sly look you've given her. I wish you luck on plowing through your LSOS - and I do look forward to seeing more ... Mow - Get paintin'!!!!
PurityThruFire
I have a LOT of unfinished models in my paint area. I feel your pain, I have 80+ minis left for my Protectorate (Warmachine) army, 14 Reaper minis to do, only two of which have even entered pre-painting polishing stage AND 3 sweet Wyrd minis a'coming in the mail. Now, I think pulling off the sheer effect with Jade's dress is key to the mini. She certainly is showing a decent amount of flesh but she certainly looks sultry enough to be wearing something even more randy. She's naughty The skin, as per usual, looks gorgeous. The only thing is that the lips seem to be a bit much, I don't know if you can knock them down a notch, the line seems a bit sharp in the corner. VV-It's funny, bases are usually the first thing I get done.
Cerridwyn1st
I seem to be able to paint or take pictures in a single evening, not both. I will try to get some pictures snapped tonight of the work I did last night. I noticed that the skin on the arms looks smoother than the rest of the body. As I've been painting that area, I thought that if I brought up my highlights another level and glazed over the skin, it would smooth out the appearance of the surface of the mini. I did a little work on the skirt as well. VV, yeah, I had Fear of the Sheer as well, but decided to bite the bullet and try anyway. Never know until you try... Actually, I've done a few pieces before this with sheer fabrics. One was a lady with stockings and the others were females in a Merc Fire Team. For the stockings, I painted the legs normally and then inked over that. I made them a little darker near the ankles, getting lighter as they went up the leg. Stockings are knit the same size from toe all the way up, so they will be darker where the fabric is thickest and get lighter. Come to think of it, this was a Retro fig, so maybe the stockings should have been the same color all the way down. Old-fashioned sewn stockings sometimes were shaped like the leg, giving more consistent coloration. Oh, well, too late now. And yes, I did put a seam running down the leg. For the Merc Fire Team, I thought the t-shirts clung to the body too tightly for them NOT to be sheer. So I painted the skin of torso as normal and layered a black paint/ink mix over that to give the affect of a thin shirt over bare skin. Again, lighter where the cloth would be streached the thinnest. PTF: I share your opinion of the lips. They've been fixed. I also agree that pulling off the dress will make or break the fig. That's why I got stuck for so long. I could see where I needed to go, just didn't have the gumption to go there. I guess the figs I mentioned earlier helped me get prepared to tackle this. Cerridwyn1st
I noticed something looking at the previous entries. The skin was much smoother looking on the arms than on the rest of the model. These are the updated images after some additional work.
PurityThruFire
I think she is looking fantastic. The lips look so much better now. It could just be the picture or it could be my monitor but her left elbow looks like it's bruised. I told her to stay away from those grog swilling ruffians! I think the "bruise" on her elbow is a mis-stroke. Have to fix that. Looks like the paint got rubbed off the edge of the dress, too. Sigh. Grog swilling ruffians: LOL! slop_artist
Grog swilling ruffians: LOL!I was thinking the same thing, but then she looks like the type that would be on the delivering side of that bruise. I can't get over the hair. I really, really like the multi tone features and highlights. I don't know if they're too subtle for the table top, but they're noticeable in the close-ups and they look great!

I would like the end color to be just a tad darker. I can't get over how much smoother her butt and upper thigh look. In the previous picture, it looks like she has a bad case of cellulite. Yuck! Versutus Vulpes
Cerridwyn1st - I keep looking at these pics and I have a hard time adjusting to the maginification... Mini's are *never* seen this close - butcept for pictures of course. So when I look at these it is almost like seeing a pointalist (sp?) painting - like Serat or the like - up close. If I sit back from my monitor and squint my eyes a wee bit - I can see these are really well done... The cellulite comment etc are prompting me to say this BTW... Anyhow - Just a note to others out there doing or viewing WIPs - Big pics help for comments and techniques - but you need to literally take a step back to see the whole mini at times... small like... That being said - the skin and clothes look fantastic - especially if you stand back a little bit and let your eyes take in everything rather than just the pixels of colour. Just thought I'd say is all...

I tried to do a series of small-scale photos, but only the frontal came out. The other three views were fuzzy. It's the first pix in the series. It's still bigger than life size, but not so much. PTF: He he. Yeah, I seem to be getting butt-er with skin tones. I still think the hands look like crap, though. Maybe I should spot strip them. Maybe I should spot strip them. This is nothing you have control over but it just seems like the hands were sculpted a little too large. On a complete side note I had given my self the title PurityThruFire not knowing that I would really become part of this community. Now that I am I think the truth should be known, as most people here seem to know everyone's names, my name is Clinton. Just to bring back something V said, super huge, up close macro shots will always show flaws, minis were never really meant to be viewed so close up. I know it is hard not to nit-pick everything, I'm one of the worse culprits of that. I just think you should know, with the time and effort you've put back into Jade, she looks really, really good. Cerridwyn1st
Need some help with this one. I'm kind of stuck on what to do with the belt and scabbard. Some notes on this. The ghost-form over his head is an early version of the method I used for the Wraith. The Wraith in the Warlord thread was the third version of the same method. The robe was a base-coat of teal with purple as a shadow.
