ladystorm
RE Lobsters: while it would be nice, timing right now doesn't work. thank you anyway.
dargrin
Just a quick thanks for Ladystorm for hosting this paint day. It was good to get out and slap some paint on some figs. I hope to do this again. Pictures will be coming soon (and I don't mean Reaper soon).
Whizard Hlavaz
So, hey! What was the final count? Did you guys have fun?
dargrin
Three of us in total. I am hoping that we can more next time. Speaking from someone who paints by himself too much it was good to paint with others with the same interest.
Helltown
I just wanted to chime in and say that it was nice to have company painting for a change, and to thank Cher for having us over Learned a lot of the perks of Reaper B2B and found one of Cher's Shiny Red Buttons (never, ever answer "You expect us (retail store owners) to read the manual!?" when told something fun from the Reaper Retailer Handbook). We got to see her dwarves and heard the tale of their journey from concept to finished mini. I'm still a little cross-eyed from painting and then reading, so I think I'm gonna take it easy on the eyeballs today We did discuss a few things about the big paint/game day, which is to have 3 of them per year. One up north in Maine, one down south in Conn., and one somewhere's in the middle (central Massachusetts type deal). Sounds like a decent plan to me so we should decide soonish who's first in the rotation, Maine or Conn. as we have stores rogered up for those already and it gives us the chance to locate the central shop (which will probably be the best attended). Another matter brought up is the forthcoming fall/winter weather :P Early November is about the limit before the weather turns to poo and folks run the risk of typical New England snowfall. I say we do the Connecticut one this fall and plan the other two for the spring/summer.
dargrin
Also as promised a few pics of what was worked on. If this is incorrect place for these pics I please move to show off.
Helltown
<crawls under her desk> I didn't think I made the shadows that dark on the unicorn... and I thought my camera was mean... EDIT: After taking pictures of my figure tonight... I should feel lucky that the third nostril didn't show itself at the angle Dargrin shot it at. Yup... after shading, my unicorn had a third nostril... I will be hiding under the linoleum now...
Whizard Hlavaz
Well, I'm sorry I missed this. Next time, I hope!
Mad Jack
Um, when you guys figure out when you're going to do the CT get-together, please let me know... I spend enough time in The Citadel to have occasionally considered just having my paychecks direct-deposited into Pat's account, lol. I live about 14 miles from the store (I could spit on the Mohegan Sun casino, and often do), so assuming my yet-too-be-resolved job situation allows it, I'll be there. Whizard Hlavaz
Will do, Mad Jack. I don't know what was discussed in regard to details for possible dates/venues moving forward, but just keep an eye out here.
Helltown
What was discussed amongst the trio of painters was that we hold three gatherings a year, one in Maine (for the folks that Conn. is a little too far for), one in Conn. (for the folks that Maine's too far for) and one in Northern Massachusetts (for everybody). Right now where it stands for venues rogering up space: Maine: J&R Cards and Games in Brunswick, ME Connecticut: The Citadel in Groton, CT Massachusetts: ??? The timing of these events is one of those really oddball deals that no one outside of New England is going to really grasp, but... late Fall (after the leaves have dropped and cleared from the roads but before the snow really starts to fly), late Spring (after the snow finishes melting), and all of summer (minding the regional festival calenders). My suggestion: The late fall event take place down in Connecticut, which will be warmer than Maine and allow the Conn. folks to decide if we're nice enough folks to travel north for the other two events. The spring event take place in Mass. which is outside of the convention season and is far enough out we can still track down a venue. The summer event take place up here in Maine, which until late July is pleasantly cool (A/C units didn't start running incessantly 'til last week) and allows folks to work the trip into a summer vacation. Whizard Hlavaz
Thanks, Helltown. Sounds good by me. When shall we begin the discussion of a date for the Groton day? Later in the summer? During the fall? Sooner may help folks find open slots. That's usually the case for me.
Helltown
Dilvish (who found the venue in Conn) is in Florida until August 1st, but as Mad Jack is one step short of signing his paycheck over to The Citadel, maybe he can find out what dates are open for their events area and we can go from there. If folks would post any changes to their availability and such, it'd really help with planning this one. I know that I'm going to be hard pressed to drive down from Maine unless I'm headed to points south and east already, so this may help plan my vacation to Ohio
Dilvish the Deliverer
I'm back!! Somewhat more tanned and now close to a quarter of a million dollars in debt!! Florida was nice, lots of sun (except when it was raining which in the summer means every evening), pretty light shows (lightning can be fierce) and much Disneyfication was to be had (I have three little girls, it was all princess all of the time). Then I came home and closed on my first house. I think that I still own a 51% majority of my immortal soul, but to be sure I would need to finish translating the legal documents. Now to get back OT, when last I talked to Pat (owner of The Citadel), he basically said that currently the only competition for his gaming space is the Battletech group that play there on a somewhat monthly basis. It should be relatively easy to de-conflict. Since Helltown is thinking late fall, I was thinking October. The only conflict that I have would be my wife's birthday, October 5th and whatever happens to be on her honey-do list (most likely raking leaves; the back half of my new property is wooded, there will be lots of leaves to go around; if anyone wants some for basing take a few bags, no really ) But that is me. Let me know when is good for the rest of the New Englander's (and anyone who wants to come in from outside of New England, New York is only and hour or five away depending on traffic) and the herding of cats will commence.
