Dilvish the Deliverer
Isn't this how conventions are born? This is how New Englanders survive winter actually from what I've seen. Cram in as much as possible before the snow and cold hit so that you can spend the whole winter saying "Hey you remember back in October at the Connecticut Reaperfest when...?" There's also the whole, we've been plotting for how long? Or during the winter you cram as many people into a small space to keep warm..the "sheep huddle" principle. Though it would make it more difficult to paint.
dargrin
I just turn the heat on in my basement. Isn't this how conventions are born? Mad Jack
Heck, I generally survive the winter by burning the corpses of tourists and people who think they know how to drive but end up wrecking their cars in half an inch of snow... Hehe. Can't you tell I've lived here my whole life? People say things like, "I hope I can find my scraper this year. I think it's in my garage." and I just say, "I know where mine is - It's in my back seat, right where it's been since the last time it snowed four months ago." Oh, note about the food issue - The Citadel is located right at the top of what us locals refer to as "Hamburger Hill". Aside from The Citadel and the Artware Store which share a building, there's a pizza restaurant, McD's, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Blimpie's, and maybe one other place all right in a row. Taco Bell is a mile down the road. There's a Super Stop & Shop across the road from Taco Bell. If you're feeling adventurous or have a local guide, there's a bunch of restaurants across the bridge in New London, and past that there's the local mall in Waterford with a food court, a Subway across the street, Coldstone Creamery for your icecream fix, Ruby Teusday's, and a bunch of other places... On a personal note, I'll more than likely be there for some or all of the get together, but won't be able to 100% commit to it until I find a job, although I generally try to get Mon.-Fri. gigs to accomodate my other 3.2 million hobbies like Rocky Horror. Qwyksilver
My attendance is very tenuous. I will be starting a new job in the coming month and may have to work some weekends, so until I get a schedule I won't be certain. Then, since my wife already has a committment that Saturday, I have to work on finding childcare, since as cute as the baby is, a 16 month old is not conducive to painting Of course, that's what grandma is for! And what are all these concerns with winter? Winter just means another layer on getting to the grill. It means laughing at idiots in SUVs that passed you in the snow doing 50 as you pass them in the ditch doing 25. It means sledding. It means leaving for work 10 minutes earlier because you have to chip off the car. Big deal. Edited August 3, 2007 by Qwyksilver
Enchantra
Well I might be able to do this IF... My folks will let me borrow the Kia for the weekend, IF I can pull together the cash for the trip (gas, food and lodging) and IF I can get the time off from my second job who at this point has been very sweet and kept me on past the nursery season and has not laid me off with everyone else. Getting time off at Michaels wouldn't be a problem, I'll have three weeks of vacation at my disposal, and two bosses who don't argue with me because I can practically run that store myself. Well it was a fun idea... I asked if I could have the car that weekend and I got a shake of the head, apparently they don't want me driving that far yet since I've only had my license since December. Ahh well, it was nice to dream.
PurityThruFire
D'oh! We must have maximum attendence, it seems like for far too long New England has been lacking this sort of thing. I'm mean sure there's been stuff going on but no real central place for us to meet each other, paint and game until our hands cramp. We may even have to raffle off some free carpal tunnel surgery gift certificates We must bring Reaper to New England!
Dilvish the Deliverer
One other thing for those who are looking to do something else while in this neck of the woods. The 20-21st is the last weekend of the CT Renisance Fair. The wife and I went last year and had a great time.
Helltown
I'll be making every effort to make it down for at least Saturday, now that I know when I'll be heading back to Ohio for a vacation of sorts. We don't really need the whole of Reaper to be there, we've got Ladystorm and that's good enough for me. She's awesome Oh and then there'll be some pro-type painters on hand. And PTF, you should be more worried about the promised Protectorate vs Protectorate brawl if I manage to make it. I found someone to play with up here, so I'll be practicing

noctambulist
This sounds like fun. I'll have to clear it with my better half first but I don't think it will be a problem. I would probably only be able to make it on Saturday for a little day trip thing, no sleep-over. Also, since I'm new to all of this, what should I bring? Brushes, paints, minis, potato salad? Dilvish the Deliverer
From what I understand, bring your brushes, paint and what ever minis you want to work on. Ladystorm will be bring the supples for a Paint and Take and will be sharing her paints. I don;t have any problems sharing what I have. As I live close by, I will be bring most of my painting desk (as it is in storage while I move, it is conveinently boxed up). As far as food, I'm not sure. I was thinking of asking She Who Must Be Obeyed (my wife), to whip up a cheese cake or lemon cake. Something to sustain the painting binges. I know that if I'm in a painting groove I will forget to eat if not reminded.

CaptC
The Whiz Store in Westborough MA is open to hosting a painting day. We even have a Black Lightning rep. I happen to know the owner, he said it's OK. We have a largish painting area, OK lighting, and lots of paint and brushes. Plus holes in our schedule, see http://whiznet.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180743479
Whizard Hlavaz
I don't think I can frequent a store that misspells "wiz." I'll update the front page here shortly, gang. -Whiz.
dougrob173
I would be very interested in a central MA gathering. I'm just north of Boston, so the drive would be perfect. The ME or CT locations are a bit too far for me (2+ hours). So if someone is coordinating a MA meet, please add me to almost definite list, thanks.
