Stubbdog
I have one dog now, and will be picking up a new puppy (Stubb's replacement) actually later this week. Is Duffers crate trained? We could always start out that way and them let them out for controlled play time to get aquainted. The room should be available by then. Just let me know as the time gets closer, no need to rush that decision. Just know its there as a fall back ifyou need it.
fieldarchy
Thanks Jas! Will let you know! I may have an apartment lined up.
ixminis
When I lived there, the apartments b/w Avenue D & The highway were high crime (stuff near UNT). Dunno how well that's been fixed. Most folks are right, gimme the address for the Las Colinas campus (in PM) and I can talk to good ways to get there. If your shift is an off-shift, the drive can be ok, but yer also moving into the area when the craziness hits the roads: Late Summer AND Christmas holiday times seem to have more aggressive and crazy drivers. I also suggest talking specifics offline since this board is touched by search engines. Just not good safety advertising the apts. yer looking fer. fieldarchy
Michael, I've already emailed Anne a couple addresses. I know not to post any specifics about my location on here. Don't worry, I'm smarter than that! I can send you the address for the Las Colinas Campus. Let me do so once I've had a chance to nail down dates with the director on Thursday. We are going to have another phone meeting to discuss when I need to be there, getting company time to move, etc. I'll have more details then and Thursday evening is when I'll start booking the truck, really looking at places and where they are located, etc. Thanks everyone! Kheprera
I know that certain places around Irving are downright scary, so listen to Michael, there. It's been a while since I lived in Dallas (and wouldn't mind living there again if we could both find decent jobs, but I refuse to give up my government job and pension). I know the ReaperPeeps will steer you right in getting a good place. After all, we're all family, and none of us want our sister living in a bad neighborhood. ReaperShaun
I moved here a few weeks ago and live in Lewisville. I think I lucked out because I found some gamer room mates who had a house. Lewisville is nice. I live 12 miles from reaper and the drive takes me 15 minutes each way no matter what time it is. I get to watch congested traffic going the opposite direction each way. Wherever you move, you may want to try to go north in the morning and south when you get off work. All traffic goes to Dallas in the AM and away from there in the PM. Best of luck getting a place. fieldarchy
That is sound advice . . . I am looking in Lewisville though. That puts me closest to the Las Colinas Campus from what the director at UOP said and still close to Denton and Reaper.
tabascojunkie
It's a toll road, so you'll have to pay to use it, but if you're gonna go from Lewisville to Las Colinas the George Bush Turnpike will be your best friend. It goes smack into the middle of Las Colinas, and the traffic on the west side of 35 is usually pretty light. And there's only one toll booth between the two though, I think. daHob
I've lived in Irving, Coppell and currently live in Lewisville. If you need help feel free to PM me (you can confirm with Anne that I'm not a psycho). Places that are pretty good to live in the area (listed roughly most expensive to least): Valley Ranch Las Colinas Coppell Flower Mound Lewisville Far North and North East Irving Carrolton Places I wouldn't live: Most of Farmer's Branch West and South Irving (especially south of 183) Anecdotal note about traffic: I live at 121 and I35E. I drive 20 miles to work every day, one mile of which is on 35 going from 121 to 190. Often the one mile I am on 35 takes 25% of my total commute time. It usually takes around 15 minutes to travel the mile, but has taken as long as 45.
fieldarchy
daHob, Thanks for letting me know! I'll PM you later along with Anne and Michael with a list of places in Lewisville I'm looking at. I really appreciate all the help I'm receiving! This is great! Meg
Tannhauser
I live in Flower Mound, and I actually drive right by Las Colinas on my commute to and from work. It's roughly a 20 mile drive, and takes an average of 45 minutes to drive it.
fieldarchy
Tan, I think I've found a decent place in Lewisville actually. It seems like a good area from what everyone has said thus far. I'm filling out an application tomorrow and sending it off. I need to find out how many units are available. I'm planning on renting until about February/March, then I will be buying a house. I need to make sure I am financially secure by then with a decent down payment. I know I definitely don't want to rent for a year and potentially miss out on a good market! fieldarchy
YAY! I have an apartment, well assuming the deposit makes it to the complex by noon tomorrow! YAY! I'm so relieved to have a place reserved and it's decent too! Just a short 7 month lease too so I can prepare to buy a house in the spring! Woo hoo! Kheprera
Yay! I'm as excited for you as I would be for me, and a lot less stressed out (since I don't have to organize a move ). I'm extremely happy for you, and I wish you well in your new place. And, once you get a house, you'll have room to house ReaperCon attendees!
