Cerridwyn1st
OK, so Gen Con has a contest this year for pulp-inspired minis. I thought I'd shop on-line and see if there were any pulp minis that I thought I could work up in the little time we have left before Gen Con. I was looking at a group of Babes with Guns and went, "hey, I've GOT that mini!" A friend gave it to me when I was painting a pulp model for him. I gave the Lazy Susan of Shame a spin and there she was, already on her base, primed and ready to go. Talk about embarassing... Come to think of it, I've also got a kid with a sub-machine gun on a skate board.
Helltown
I had a sort of similar moment when I was prowling my apartment last night in search of an Evil One (don't ask why... too ridiculous), I spotted a box on the shelf with my paltry collection of Sith Lord action figures. Boxes do not belong on my action figure shelf unless they contain sealed figures. I open the box and... It was the free Confrontation mini that Rackham gave out at GenCon when I went a couple of years ago. I was fairly certain I had at least started it at some point... Nope, still in it's blister untouched by files (or Dremel) and unprimered... I didn't even get to shelf of shame, I got as far as opening the blister, oogling and packing it away for a rainy day.. I'll be priming it tonight just because... somethin' new, somethin' different EDIT: This one
slop_artist
A few years ago, I was captivated by 14082: Margara, Dwarf Mage. Remember her? Large and in charge and even for a Dwarf - "packin it" in true Klockenbooty fashion. I apparantly really liked it, since I somehow have 2 of them. And... Er... Then something really cool happened and stuff! (I know my story about minis wasn't as cool as the previous ones, but I don't care.)
Kheprera
Don't worry about it. I go to the FLGS, pick out some minis I think would be fun to paint, get home, open them, ogle for a bit, and put them away. A couple weeks/months later I get around to putting them with the rest of my minis to discover I already have two of the same mini. Sometimes I come home with multiples of multiples. Somehow, I ended up with about three Monique's.

I received it as part of my "prize" for RCon Sophie at Phoenix Con Games. I pretty much gave away all the prizes and kept the ribbon. I did a trade with someone for a different mini! It's purdy darn ugly.
GreyHorde
@slop_artist: I've got doubles, triples and more of some I've collected over the years. Not so much in the Warlord line, but DHL, definitely. Example: 3 copies of Monique de Noir #2234, and 2 of #2551. I've found a couple of Ral Partha minis still new in the blister, in an opened blister, loose in a box, and primed. For a while, I tried avoiding duplicates by writing lists, then spreadsheets and even a database, trying to let someone or something remember stuff for me, so I wouldn't have to. No good. I recently gave up. Now the extras go for conversions, practice, gifts and Warlord grunts/proxy, turning my Closet of Shame into a Treasure Vault. I knew I had too many minis when the topic of 'identify this' came up twice in a month, and both times I had the mini. And the catalog. From 1983. They're not my oldest. Almathea Toes
I discovered I had several copies of the elven bard with the guitar/harp. So I made a vain D&D charater, and I paint her up a new outfit about once a month, and each game she decides what she's going to wear this week. So Folks... why not turn this trash into treasure... If there are more such as myself and you two, then why have a kind of Oscars for the OCDs... A Celebration of Cleptomania... A Decree of the D'Oh! ... Or at least a Presentation for Poor Memories.... Why not have a sort of swap fair? I know I have incomplete sets and dupes dating back to the 70s, why not just throw them to anyone that needs or wants them?
Kheprera
Actually, mine are going towards conversions or maybe mini exchanges, when I get the energy to sit and paint. And some have broken, so now they're going to have to be used for conversions. Young children are not conducive to keeping intact minis. I smell pizza... and we had eggs and bacon for dinner... slop_artist
I smell pizza... and we had eggs and bacon for dinner... Grooooooosssss! I seen that horror movie... "Ma'am the smell is coming from the attic..." Maybe all the rain you guys have been getting has sprouted pizza plants?
cutebutpsycho
2 or 3 of a mini? Sheesh, talk about amateurs! I have over 10 of some. But then again, I did cast em myself at Reapercon this year......... I'm really good about remembering what I have, and seeing as I must be pushing (if not over) 1000 minis, that's not bad!

GreyHorde
So Folks... why not turn this trash into treasure... Why not have a sort of swap fair? I know I have incomplete sets and dupes dating back to the 70s, why not just throw them to anyone that needs or wants them? I like the idea of a swap fair, but I've yet to see one work. It's tough to find a good, reputable website with like-minded individuals who can reach agreement. We can't do it here on the forums, and most others have similar rules or charge for the privilege. Shipping is expensive, and getting moreso. eBay and convention auctions turn traders into sellers. Don't let me discourage you, though. Those ares just my observations, my experiences. YMMV. If you are serious and have ideas for how to make it work, please let me know, I'd be interested in exploring the possibilities. Actually, mine are going towards conversions or maybe mini exchanges, when I get the energy to sit and paint. That's where some of mine are headed, too. Friendly games of Warlord (very loose proxy rules) account for about half, with the rest for RPGs (that I haven't played in 10+ years), dioramas, displays and eBay (if I ever learn to paint like a [L00K! Pro pAInTed!] artiste with lEEt skillz. Compared to the overall total, duplicates of character or display types is a very small percentage, and zero duplicated boxed sets. Most of my multiples are for war- & skirmish games, where it's okay to have a bunch of soldiers of the same type. [Edit] ML -- wins? Wins what? Come on, spill it! What's the prize, huh? Probably more minis...
Artists Wren Posted July 4, 2007 Artists Share Posted July 4, 2007 I discovered I had several copies of the elven bard with the guitar/harp. So I made a vain D&D charater, and I paint her up a new outfit about once a month, and each game she decides what she's going to wear this week. This is a very cool and fun way to handle duplicates!
