joshuaslater
I have no shame. They're all mine, mine, and when I paint them, game with them, or simply pick them up, they are all my precioussssss.
Sanael
I like it when big lots of random minis are discovered on eBay...twenty-three miniatures, some still in blister...we already have two of those three, and one of 19 others...but that one, right there, that one we don't have yet! Twenty or thirty bucks ain't bad for one new mini, right?
Nissiana
Hey, when that "one new mini" is long OOP, or a special edition, then getting some extra duplicates becomes a nice bonus. Especially when someone *coughSanael* says, "Hey, check out this lot! There are four Mariliths! I can do weapon conversions on this one, a scenic base for another one, test out new patterns on the other one...." Fortunately I was able to lay my hands on one of them before they were all claimed, and one day she'll be the most fearsome of them all. In two-painter household, sometimes you NEED duplicates, because you can't both paint exact same figure at the same time--and even if you could, you might never agree on a paint scheme! It does enable the SoS to grow at an alarming rate when there are two of you adding to it at once, though!
JoeGKushner
Between auctions and trades, and sales... cursed weak will power, I have about three file folder boxes of unpainted minis stacked up in the closet. They take up way too much space for my little two bedroom apartment and I really need to get rid of about 90% of 'em since I rarely GM any more. On the other hand, I find that I enjoy painting more lately and that even when only doing 'tabletop' worthy style figures (like the dwarves and gobos from Battle at Skull Pass), I enjoy mixing up the ranks and testing different paints and brushes etc... GreyHorde
I've done that with eBay, too, but not often. My biggest additions have come at store clearance sales, bulk/bits bins and live convention auctions like Gen Con. Years ago at Origins and another, much smaller con in Ohio, CapCon, a friend and I split the cost of several mini auctions full of Ral Partha & Grenadier minis, mostly singles for RPG characters and monsters. We each ended up with close to 200 minis and no duplicates.
dargrin
You know you've got too many minis when... Someone comes up to me while painting them an asks what do you do with them when your done and all I can reply is "I put them in a cardboard box in my basement." Dilvish the Deliverer
When every time you walk into a game store, you just have to buy a snack for that pewter monkey that lives on your back. I was in my FLGS Tuesday, to talk to the owner about using his gameroom (for this: Central New England Paint Day) and came out with yet another new mini. <Internal Monologue ON> Pewter Monkey: OOOOH! Pretty, Shiney mini!! Me: Not now. I'm just here to talk to Pat. PM: But this is nice. Must have. Me: You know I haven't painted anything in months and I have all of those Warlord Minis to finis that you made me buy when the Wizards Tower went out of business in November. And I'm moving so my Honey-Do list is huge right now. PM: It would be good to represent that charecter you were going to make in that new game. Me. It's a Play-by-Post on the forums. I don't NEED a mini for my charecter. PM: But you want it don't you? Me: Well, yeah it is pretty cool looking..... PM: Feed Me???? Me: Well maybe just one more... <Internal Monologue OFF>

I guess I'm lucky, I'm allowed to display them (along with my massive collection of games) in the dining room. We set it all up so it looks good, well as good as it can. My girlfriend is always on th elook out for cool looking bookshelves from tag sales and such which she will bring home for my ever growing collection of "stuff"

Helltown
There are just some things I'm not allowed to do if I have money.. Browse at yard sales - I stopped at a friend's yard sale with $5.25 and left with a cookie sheet for baking Sculpey, 8 paperback books, and three Reaper life counters, and zero money in my pockets despite really wanting the Burger King Star Wars glasses. Go to any book store - I cannot leave a book store without a new (to me at the very least) book. There's one in Freeport where I walked in browsed a bit and walked out with the entire Elric Saga in paperback, half off original cover price... I think I spent $6.00 or so after sales tax? I had $7 and was going to go get some fast food for lunch... Look at any site with Miniatures - I've got an order to send out for Crunch Waffle minis (those waggas are hard to resist) as soon as the deposit to my PayPal account registers. Reaper's a little easier to manage, I skip right to the forums and avoid temptation some of the time. Anything on eBay that I didn't list - Project Jester's last auction caught a little of my money but that was contributing to a good cause. There's lots of stuff that you can have 'too many' of like bills or greasy foods which end up being bad in the long run. I fail to see how too many minis, books, comics, or games can be a bad thing. If nothing else, you'll always be amused.
PurityThruFire
There are just some things I'm not allowed to do if I have money...Look at any site with Miniatures... Yup, that sounds about right. When I first discovered the Reaper Asylum (after discovering the paints) I placed 2 orders totaling about $400. Now that may not sound like a lot but get this...I don't have a job! Online stores have been the death of me. Mini's are not the whole deal though, I love movies just as much (I'm creeping up on, I believe to be about my 1600th DVD). I just love this hobby so much though...
Evilbob
My husband and I put all of our pay checks each week into a joint acct, and $50 per week into our personal accts. that is ours to do with as we please, but things like gas and eating out come out of that one too (usually). This means our bills get paid, and he gets to drop his money on comics or Star Wars books, and I get paints, stones, minis, fabric, books, whatever. Now he has never told me I have too many minis, or that I spend too much on them. But since I get into the BL program, that has helped. Now he has looked at my shelvs of shame and stared blankly (I'm pretty sure its not awe). But if he ever does say no more minis until I paint what I have, I can just point at the 60 some odd goblins I bought for him, that are mostly primered, not on bases, ect. PaintByNumbers
>>> Holy crap, PBN, how long have you been painting to aquire that much stuff? >>> 1975. The biggest problem is that the house is really literally out of storage space for all the various things I've accumulated. Books, for example. Since my taste is non-mainstream, those are the books most likely to be discounted to a can't-refuse price. I don't go into bookstores anymore, and use the public library 25 cent rack to keep the monkey off my back. No more space for shelves...
