That's generally the rule of the rental agency, it's not a state law. Rental Agencies don't like renting to anyone under 25 really. Trust me, no matter which state I've lived in it's always been the same. In DC I had to pay more for a moving truck because I was only 18, in VA I couldn't even think of getting a rental car unless it was through my insurance agency while my vehicle was being repaired, in AZ there is an extra fee for insurance that is mighty hefty. TX I don't know about . . . but I'm citing other experiences as stated above. It's not that you CAN'T rent a car, it's usually more expensive and more difficult.

Actually you can rent a truck at 18 but in order to get a car you have to be 25 that or pay boat loads extra for a rental car if underaged

State laws between TX and NY must be different on the matter then.

NY law is invariably different from everyone else on just about everything. Just ask you local insurance agent ::D:

It's probably the rental agency's insurance company, more so than the rental car places themselves. Look at the insurance rates you pay between getting your license at 16 and turning 25 - there's a massive drop at the age of 25. I was already over 25 when I got married to my ex, my insurance rates shot back up because she was under 25, then went down again when she turned 25. So I'm sure the insurance agencies tack on all sorts of additional fees when renting to anyone their insurance providers class as a risk.

They also don't like renting to cash renters, either. My best friend found that out the hard way when he came out for my wedding - not a single one of the rental car agencies at DIA would rent to him without a credit card, despite a fistful of cash in his hand.

What's the weather like in that part of Texas in May? I might could have my bike shipped down for the trip...

Warm. Quite warm. As in shorts and t-shirt weather. Though they keep it nice and crispy cool inside Rcon, so either wear jeans inside Rcon or bring a sweater in case it's to cold for your liking. Outside though you need the shorts - and sandals.

I'll take that as 'Mainers will melt' temperatures, and pack accordingly. Being that I was wearing jeans while most of you folks were complaining about the heat this past summer, methinks I'll skip the sweatshirt for indoors. If you can't stand the heat, you move to Maine :poke:

If I remember correctly, this year was odd in that there was a bit of a cool snap and temperatures were generally very comfortable low 60's to low 80's. Usually up to the mid 80's to low 90's by mid May.

Unless you're from the frigid north, I recommend bringing a sweater or sweatshirt for inside the Reaper building.

::): Don't worry Kate, I'll make sure my house is nice and cool for you and L-dub at RCon. And you won't have to suffer too much heat . . . it'll be a short jaunt to my house from RCon.

I'm already looking forward to RCon and there are still many months to go!

I live in Maine, that compared to Texas is the Frigid North. Temps in the 80's is as hot as it usually gets around here :poke:

That's about what you can expect here around that time of year. Unless it's one of those freak times like a couple of years ago when it got to 100. That doesn't usually happen though.

it was extremely hot the first year I went, but the weather has gone down each year. 05 the temps were 100 (hot but nothing like here in th summer 110-115 somedays), 06 was nice, allot of rain during the 3 days & this year's was really nice, little bit of rain, but for the most part outside was bearable

I bring 1 pair of jeans & a light jacket but I don't think I've ever wore them over the weekend
