Spike
The BW is a bit more pricy than Super8 or LaQuinta, but IMO worth the extra cost for its proximity to Reaper HQ and its very spacious and comfy rooms, and also for having an exceptionally nice complimentary breakfast. Did I mention that it's right next to a package store? Oh, and for those of you who've never been to a ReaperCon, it's not at all like one of those mega-conventions where there's tons of people pushing and shoving and standing in line to get into events, nor is it those same people runnin' around in silly costumes being drunkards and embarassing the gaming hobby (well.. er...not generally, that is). There's plenty of things to do for everybody, and you really feel like part of the family once you've been to one.
haldir
btw Spike I barely heard you guys above me over the weekend shows how good the hotel was (about the only time I heard anything was when you came back from ShinerCon & that was for about 5 mins or so. & yes it was nice, more or less a straight shot from the hotel to Reaper HQ, just I'm not use to paying over 40 dollars for a room (call me cheap I guess). & what Spike says is so close to the truth about Rcon. Back in 05 my 1st Rcon I didn't know what I was getting into, as I've never been to Gen Con or even Cons like Genghis, just never got out to any of them, but after the first day I was talking & joking with people, conversing with sculptors, guys who's names are hand & hand with the hobby I knew from the old days (old days being RP, TSR), like Bob Ridolfi & Julie Guthrie (which I must say are very cool people), just overall a fun time. 06 Rcon almost didn't happen for me, as I kinda was like I might skip this one, but I started to get to know people on the boards more & I knew I had to go back, which I did, glad I did cause I think that one so far for me was the funnest one of the 3 years I've gone, thou 07 was great, love the extra day, just I didn't get into a rpg game this year, hopefully thou I'll play & might even try to GM one if I can, just gotta see about emailing someone about that. I know for sure I'm gonna cut my class load this time, not that I took that many class this year, just want to be more out on the floor this time around. Nice to hear about swag pts now valid for the auction. Rastl oh not complaining, just gotta say I think you made the desk clerk's day thou, ha ha ha ha funny here I am on my last day of a week's vacation that I started on Saturday (yah you do the math), thinkin about next year's time off request, man I can't wait till those dates are announced, hopefully it'll be in DEC again, love the look on my boss's face when I put it in last year "oh you can't put in time off requests during the holidays!!!----don't worry this is for May!!" Enchantra
love the look on my boss's face when I put it in last year "oh you can't put in time off requests during the holidays!!!----don't worry this is for May!!" I got roughly the same look last time I requested time off for Rcon. I requested the time some four months in advance. My boss looked at me oddly, smirked, shook his head and said, "Planning ahead?" My response, "Of course, I NEED the Vacation." They always let me have the time off, that's not the issue. The issue really is if they can find someone to cover my Stockroom while I'm gone as I'm the ONLY person who works in receiving. I do have trained backup, however they are both part-timers with erratic schedules and not always there when they would most be needed (Warehouse trucks, Fedex/UPS deliveries). I think that hardest part will be to get time off from my second job this year as May and June are the height of the nursery season. Earlier in May I could swing easily, later in May they'd probably kick my butt for even asking for time off.
Spike
I supoose there's some things nobody ever outgrows. I started a ReaperCon jar! Yeah, it'd probably be more sensible to put money every payday into an actual account, but then it becomes "grown-up responsibility pay-the-bills in-case-of-emergency" money. Where's the fun in that, huh? I like watching my li'l jar fill up. If I feed it regularly every payday, by the time May rolls around, I will have enough in it to pay for our entire five-nights' lodging. But every time I make a purchase that maybe I shouldn't have, all cash in pockets (not wallet) goes in the bottle, thus preventing stupid spending in the near future. I dunno how much is in there, the last time I shook out the change was for laundry quarters (replaced with dollars). The grand plan is that as I move more towards goals of reducing my use of swear words, quitting smoking, and stupid spending the jar can be smashed gleefully and a cruise can be taken

Artists Wren Posted September 12, 2007 Artists Share Posted September 12, 2007 I enjoy admiring the attention to detail and creativity of costuming on display at Gen Con, and I'm sure I'd enjoy it even more at ReaperCon where I'd know some of the people well enough to try to get decent pictures or ask a few questions about the work and thought that went into the costume. Most of the costumers I've seen have been sober, so maybe I'm not getting the full spectacle that Spike's seen, though. ;-> This years Gen Con did top my weird sights seen at cons so far list when I spotted a miniature horse _inside_ the convention center strolling down the hall. The weird thing to me is its handler wasn't in costume or anything. Fashion-wise the joy of ReaperCon for me is that I can dress completely as who I am - it's the one place I've found so far where I don't feel like a complete dork walking around hallways and whatnot with a magnifying visor on! (And I'm sad to report that some of my Sophie shirts have been getting some negative responses where I live, though I'm going to keep on wearing them regardless.) Spike
The sad thing is.. it'd not take much to get Steve to dress like his avatar. He has a kilt..and a sword. Me, on the other hand.. um.. Come to think of it, it probably wouldn't take much either.

Outkast Samurai
With the rate we're getting Ohio people that want to go to ReaperCon its almost getting to the point of just getting a minibus.
outek
Any idea when the dates will be decided? I'd hate to schedule our Unit's drill dates for the same days (like what happened this year)
