Helltown
I am so NOT dressing like my avatar! I don't think my avatar would appreciate the plane ride or the crowd of people.. and thinking about it... I know I wouldn't appreciate her reaction to either, something about claws and bloodshed. Heisler
Any idea when the dates will be decided? I'd hate to schedule our Unit's drill dates for the same days (like what happened this year) We typically don't know the dates until January, although they may have announced it in December last year. Qwyksilver
@Outek - We usually don't get an official date until January/February. We can't even guess as to a rough time in May, because it hasn't been a consistent first weekend of May or last weekend of May, etc. It has been in May though each time, so if you can avoid scheduling a drill in May, you should be good to go. Of course, the moment you schedule a drill outside of May means they will shift the date of the Con to late April or early June, whichever is most inconvenient for you
Spike
So... no Catwoman costume for Helltown? And Meg, I'll have you know Janara is a very smartly-dressed girl.. a real Cosmo-hafforc. :) So, ladies... we've already plotted a shopping spree and costumes. *nudgenudge* The more I think about it, the more I think a 'dettes-only bash is in order for one night of the Con. Helltown
Definitely no Cat-Woman costume... nope, not a chance of that happening. I don't wear costumes, I'm enough of a character that I don't need one. A night sans menfolk sounds like fun, but the fellas should come up with something to do that night as well... equal opportunity plotting after all. fieldarchy
Oooh you mean I can arrive all dressed up?! YAY! Hmmm . . . what costume to wear? wasn't there mention in an earlier topic of "Arizona Meg and the Trench of DOOM"? Yes there was . . . good memory! I could always don my archaeology gear, though I fear it's not quite as sexy as Lara Croft's outfit.
Rodnik
All this talk about costumes and such----I may just have to drop the dime on the kilt I've been wanting. On the hotel subject, is it the Best Western that's closest to HQ?
Rastl
No costume for me. RCon isn't about that for me. And since I stay at Reaper HQ for many, many hours I want to be comfortable. Remember that this is a manufacturing facility. Lots of chances to ding up a costume. Add on painting (especially Speed Painting and Sophie Says) and you're really just setting yourself up for frustration. Oh yeah. And Texas in May can be quite steamy. We're already planning a shopping excursion. Does this mean everyone needs to show up the day prior so that we don't lose precious convention time? I fly in the day before anyway so that I can rest up and be fresh for the convention when it starts.
Fruggs
I really want to co the reapercon this year. I am hoping I can get hubby to watch the kiddo for me, although he mentioned possibly wanting to come, so I have a question. My hubby is soooo not a painter and not a rpg player what all is there for him to do?
Spike
There's plenty in the Denton area to keep a body entertained beyond the Con. I believe there is a sticky topic around here regarding local attractions and entertainment. But if he decides to stick around, chances are he might decide to give painting or gaming a try. If not, he would still get to meet an awful lot of nice people.. (as opposed to a nice lot of awful people). ON the off chance your hubby likes historical games, it's likely there will be one or two of those going on sometime during the weekend. Enchantra
So, ladies... we've already plotted a shopping spree and costumes. *nudgenudge* The more I think about it, the more I think a 'dettes-only bash is in order for one night of the Con. I think that's a shhhaweeet idea Spike! When I go anyplace I try to get there early. In 2006 I was in town the day before the con, so a shopping spree would work depending on when the place arrives. We need to synchronize our watches and plan this out a bit more and get all ninja with our planning skills.
Helltown
If I can swing it, I plan on arriving a day early so that I can get over the initial 'New, unknown place' shock that always seems to pop up when I travel. I'm not normally much for shopping, as evident by the fact that I buy my clothes the same place I buy my groceries (Wal-Mart SuperCenter) but game stores, hobby stores, and anyplace that sells crafty stuff is always cool :) ... and would I be rude to bring a Magic deck or two, or should I leave those at home? fieldarchy
Well I'm actually just kidding about a costume . . . though my archaeology gear is comfy and it's not really a costume so much as my old work clothes. FYI to anyone who is thinking of coming to RCon. My house should be done by then. I should have an extra bed for someone to sleep in (I have a pull out couch) and I'm not sure yet if I will need a roommate or not. So, I could potentially be able to house two people unless a couple of you don't mind sharing a bed. Anyone who knows they are coming this year and needs a place to stay, doesn't mind a cute doggie in the house, just PM and let me know. I will be more than happy to tote around several people or just house a couple of y'all. You can always get rental cars too. I'll be about 2 miles from RHQ. Enchantra
... and would I be rude to bring a Magic deck or two, or should I leave those at home? Heck no, it's not rude! I think at Rcon'06 a few people brought Magic cards with them and had themselves a game or three. Go for it! It's a huge Gamers get-together, we paint, we eat, we sculpt, we play games and tournaments and do what ever we want (within reason of course) and have fun. Magic is totally allowable. Always good to have backup plans. You have archaeology clothes? From college summer digs off-campus I'm assuming? So you're a fellow Anthropologist? Ooooer! We can comiserate!
