CuCulain42
I never got into the Potter books. I swear I've read just about every style of fantasy literature out there, and I just didn't like the style of writing at all. I knew several kids (at the time) that thought the books were cool, but since they hit their teenage years, they haven't paid them any mind. I guess you either love it or don't care for it. Wild Bill I'm with you, I haven't been able to get into them either. I read the first two and never got that "gotta get the next one feeling." On a side note. I was down at DIA last night and I swear 1 out of 10 people were carring the book around.
slidedog
Picked it up about 12:30 Saturday am, read for a while. Had to be out Saturday am, so my wife read the whole thing Saturday. Got back from a bike ride Sunday and finished it off that day. Excellent book I thought, way better than book 6, that one could have done with a lot of editing. Props to her for finishing the series well!

Like I said read faster. I have been known to re-read the entire Honor Harrington series in a week and still paint for competition and for my 15mm WWII army. I didn't have to search for a copy of Shogun, I have owned it since 1978 You got me on the Mandarian though I have been contemplating Norwegian though. And this week sorting through the gaming material of a friend that passed away to get it up on ebay. If there are any Traveller fanatics out there and you are missing something that you can no longer find drop me a line. I just about guarantee that I have it some where in these boxes. Andrew Betts
Read it on Sunday. I was kinda surprised, it's exactly the same length as my copy of HBP. I ordered mine in from Canada since they use the UK version and doesn't have the "dumbing down" the early books had. I probably would have just gotten the US version since from what I've been told there isn't much changed, but I just had to keep the covers matching, they look neat. Versutus Vulpes
Now that the final book has been released, I can start reading them I've been burned too many times. I won't start a series now until I know it's done. Jordan and Martin I totally got burned on the Dark Tower series that way. I finished reading The Wastelands... then had to wait years to get Wizard and Glass... The whole series was worth the wait though IMHO. As for Potter - Done and done. Looking forward when I begin reading them to my children in a few years. Not great literature - but a nice diversion... The book version of a summer blockbuster. And now back to re-read System of the World - The Baroque Cycle is worth it's weight in gold!
Star Drifter
Terry Goodkind's series is due to end this year. I'm glad to have gotten into it as late as I did. This is going to be a notable year with that and the Potter series both finally ending.
anvil
I read a fan fiction version last month that was very good, but the real one is better. I do have some continuity questions though, sadly they involve spoilers, so I'll refrain.
mooseyjoe
Well, when my family's copy of potter came to me I read it in a single day, that way my sister could have it sooner. Not a bad book. The second half is far better than the first half.
Ranzadule
I don't read them for various reasons, but I do watch the movies with the kids. I DO predict tht this will not be the last book of this type though because it makes too much money. The next series may not be called "HArry Potter and..." but the way or our world is not to let something that makes so much money end in a proper way. If must be milked to death. I got the book Friday after noon for my 12 year old and he finished it Sunday. He took Saturday off to play football and basketball for about 12 hours at a party. He loved the book. My wife read the Half-blood Prince in the car on Friday while we went to Boston and is just about done wth the new book. She seems to like it. I'm a bit busy with A Song of Ice and Fire and rereading the Horseclans. I may read the series to my younger kids until they are ready to fly solo. We are reading "Peter and the Starcatchers" right now and that is REALLY good for a kids book. Edited July 29, 2007 by Ranzadule

I expect the next batch of books to follow the kids in some way. But Rowling has said that her next project (after a long break) will be an encyclopedia of her magical world. She already has notes and backstory for every character (her own admission) so it's sort of a no brainer for someone to go in and edit the notes together. Kheprera
I doubt the next series with involve Harry beyond showing up as a teacher or something. I'd rather see something far in advance or not even in Hogwarts, but maybe in one of the other magic schools.
