Versutus Vulpes
Hello all, Another WIP for me to play with. It seems like it has been forever - but the last mini I painted up was for the summer exchange - so I avoided the 'WIP'y goodness in favour of the element of surprise. Anyhow. I came to Reaper as it were about 8 months too late to get my hands on the Bourbon Street Sophie - but through the kindness of another board member - I finally got my hands on one. You see - back before Katrina - my sister got married down in the big easy - and she and her husband fell in love with that city. So - I thought that painting up a Bouron Street Sophie would make a nice little anniversery gift. So - here ya go: Overall - to me so far its going okay - but not great - I need to fix some spots - but I am not thinking of stripping her yet. Tamiya Fine Surface primer to start Then a thin wash of brown liner For base skin I am using Chestnut Gold mixed with Fair shadow First highlight layer - adding more Fair shadow to lighten the tone - and some brown liner for the eyes More highlighting Add white to the eyes... A bit of iris colour (and softening of the skin stones two I should add) Attempt at pupil and highlight... And lips... I'll probably keep going back for clean up the eyes - and I need to work the skin some more, so hey - this is a learning experience as always. Comments etc always appreciated - thanks for looking. antnol
Very nice start so far. You have a very different approach to the way you paint than I do. Not that its bad. You make it work very well. keep them coming
Orsino
Wow! Mucho gusto.
Voladilk
Looking good so far VV. Can't wait to see how she turns out!
Versutus Vulpes
Okay - here is today's installment. Essentially - the basecoat is Chestnut Gold - that I work up to Sandy Yellow, then glazed with Buckskin Pale and then madly wet blended back up to white. I'll probably go through this cycle in wet blending 2 or 3 more times until I am satisfied with the transitions and the highlights. FYI - the colour scheme is based on the dress my sister was wearing when she and her husband had their pictures taken at Jackson Square. So the Sign will likely be Chartres and St.Anne... Comments/feedback/advice - always welcome. Thanks for looking!
Rastl
I like the colors. Most of the ones in the past have either gone goth or pastel. Nice to see something in a different scheme. Yep. The transitions need work but you're already doing that. Keep it going!
Beowulfthehunter
I am liking what I see, keep it up.
GreyHorde
Looking gooood, V V! The color scheme looks really nice, well-suited for the model. Good contrast between skin and cloth, and the eyes look good, too. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
PurityThruFire
Looks fantastic so far VV. The only bit of advice I would give is the transitions on the skin look a little harsh, time to bust out a glaze
fieldarchy
I like what you are doing with her so far. Gives me ideas for future paint jobs. . .
Ironworker
I like the way you added the washes to the mini first. I don't normally paint over white but I think I'll try that next time I work on an apropriate mini.
Versutus Vulpes
Minor course corrections for this evening - smoothing transitions (still one or two more kicks till I'm happy) and starting on the stockings and boots. Yes - I am trying for translucent - I am all about the trying new stuff this time out. Now then - I have a bit of a backlog: Antnol: Thanks - and we all have a different style in one way or the other - I define mine as 'rushed' Orsino - Gracias Voladik - that makes 2 of us then! Rastl - it will be semi pastel - but in line with more traditional victorian colours - Dusty rose/light burgundy - an almost grey seafoam - and that gold colour.... And ACID GREEN!!!! Beowulf - I'll try . GreyHorde - Thanks - not my colours though - just lifted from my sister's dress... PTF - Ayup - And I hear Young MC when I do it - "Just bust a glaze" (OMG - VV just dated himself - and 80% of the people on this board... Don't follow the star!!!!*) Fieldarchy - Glad I can help - and glad to see you are moved and back to paintin' Ironworker - lifted the technique shamelessly from Paintrix I believe. It really helps show the detail before I get painting and play the 'Hey look what I found - another buckle/strap/gem/whatever' game. Thanks everyone - and here are tonight's pics. Oh - and sorry for being so goofy - its about a brazillion degrees in my painting room - and I am running on about four hours sleep... which is probably why I am going to be so cruel now.... *Ahem ---->>> New movie's showin... so you're goin Could care less about the five you're blowin Theatre gets dark just to start the show When you spot a fine woman sittin in the front row She's dressed in yellow, she says "Hello, Come sit next to me you fine fellow" You run over there without a second to loose And what comes next, hey bust a move

noctambulist
Woo, I learned something new. Looking at your thin wash of brown liner, I notice that you use that to help define the highlights and shadows before applying the base coat. Do you also do this to work out where you want the light to come from? <scribbles notes to self>
Cerridwyn1st
Maybe it's just my monitor, but the skin doesn't look quite right to me. I'm thinking you could use a wash to even out the skin tone, tie the layers together, and make the highlights look less abrupt. I do like the way you've accentuated the top of the decollage' and breastbone.
