Sergeant_Crunch
Well that sucks. When you have all that metal melted down you should have it recast into one ginormous dragon that you can work on here and there.
Reaper User Vaitalla Posted August 23, 2007 Author Reaper User Share Posted August 23, 2007 Heh, remember that all the old bad metal will be melted in order to give me a lifetime supply of free, new, better metal! I am willing to torment yesterday and today's questionable/useless to me/outright bad/why on earth did I buy this? minis for tomorrow's new Reaper sculpts, no contest!! Our sculptors are only getting better!! --Anne
GreyHorde
The random mini company stuff (Crocodile Games, Partha, etc.) is going into the melt bucket at Reaper... Must be an exception made for the Paint Goddess...? I thought only Reaper metal was allowed in the Reaper melt bucket.
Cerridwyn1st
I have a lot of metal, but I also have something that occasionally reduces the pile: Paint and Take. My biggest error this last MegaCon was to leave my box of unpainted Warlord minis at home. Could have primed them up and put them out.... Whenever the pile of Reaper stuff that I'll never paint gets too large, I prime a bunch up and head for a convention. That thins things out. I don't buy a lot of minis from other manufacturers. Even so, there is the occasional Gamer's Fleamarket that gives me an opportunity to sell, trade, or otherwise liquidate figs. It must be hard to part with things, especially the old Partha stuff. I tend to have memories associated with things, which makes them hard to part with even if they are junk.
Dragon Snack
Is there such a thing as bad metal? OK, don't answer that! Note to self: Don't make Anne mad...
PurityThruFire
I think my biggest issue is buying minis for my gaming armies (Currently that would only be my Protectorate force from Warmachine). I buy tons and tons of stuff. Some painted, some primed, some unprimed and some still sitting in blister packs/boxes. I but at least one of every piece, even pieces I don't plan on using. Then pieces I like and can field multiple of I pretty much buy as many as I can to allow me to field the maximum number of pieces for my side. Now that leaves me with tons of stuff that just collects dust. It's also the reason I don't field armies than have tons and rons of stuff (Tyranids, Orcs) anymore. It's an addiction. And I LOVE it! TheDungeonDelver
Man if anything, I need more. I'm selling off my WHFB regiments that I was using as filler monsters for my AD&D games and buying up reapers so that the scales match - it's a little silly to have two orcs barely able to cram in side-by-side in my Dwarven Forge hallways thanks to the ridiculous proportions on Citadel minis and try to remind everyone that no, the orcs are lined up three abreast... Nope, it'll be all Reaper all the time. But I gotta unload that plastic junk first.
Rodnik
Yes. I've made a commitment to myself to only buy one miniature for every three I paint. So far, I'm doing okay---on #4 without buying a new piece. I'm trying to plan next years comps around the pewter I have on hand as well.... I also intend on auctioning/selling the pieces that I paint over the next year---with few exceptions, I hope. We'll see how it goes. sigh... k. Warlady
Ah...<sigh> I wish I was as disciplined as some of you are! But I was a collector before I was a painter, so I have scads of silver minis crowding my shelves. Some will get painted, most probably won't. That's OK, I love them anyway, even silver. I know I'll never have time enough to paint as much as I want, but my metal cocaine habit keeps me buying...at least it keeps me off the streets.... ;-) Yes - Wolfen! I'm trying to get at least one of each before the metals become unavailable.... :-(
Valloa
Anyone else hit this point of terminal velocity with their miniatures collection? Yep, I have. To give my two-year old his own room, I gave up my office and moved my entire stash of miniature and drawing related items into a very very teeny space in another room. At the same time I inherited another large collection of minis. The unblistered stuff alone is currently housed in like six office depot boxes, I can't see my painting desk for the boxes and piles of blistered stuffs on and around it and half of my closet is boxed sets and more miniatures. So I hit the "cull it" or "live without moving when you paint" point. Maya~
Joe Kutz
Anyone else hit this point of terminal velocity with their miniatures collection? Yep...then we moved into a larger house with 3 extra bedrooms, a basement and a three car garage. Now I have no excuse to stop buying minis. orcsoul
I'm definately interested in the GW mini's at this point... let us know when you start puttin stuff up for auction? I'm always hunting for bargains on fleabay.
Evilbob
I picked up a ton of minis at Gen Con... I havn't ventured upstairs yet to see where I can fit them, since I know how full my shelves are ATM. I need to paint some stuff up fairly quck, that I'll never use and sell it off (to pay for RCon), so I can put away my new stuff. But on the plus side, and based on current paint speed, I should be set for 4-5 years if I ever loose my job and CAN'T buy more... I second the dragon idea. Like that oracle dragon only bigger and Reaper.
Rastl
Valloa - easy fix. Put the paint table away and make a paint table out of the boxes of minis! See? Space problem fixed! Anne - I too am confused at the thought of non-Reaper metal being taken back for the melting pot. Unless you know things we don't?
Valloa
Valloa - easy fix. Put the paint table away and make a paint table out of the boxes of minis! See? Space problem fixed! I've actually done that to find room to lay out my drawing materials. I need to find room to shift that stuff so I can make that a high box pile instead of a table. Just way too much stuff trying to be in too small an area. Maya~
