Gno gnomes?

Recommended Posts

Actually, I know Reaper has at least one gnome in their line.  Are there ANY plans to do more gnomes?

Looking at the gnome fig (I don't remember the item #) it appears to be just as large as several of the halflings.  The size is one of the reasons I was reluctant to buy the fig.  It's too big for a gnome.

Anyway, if there are no plans for Reaper to make gnomes in the future, I'd like to know it so I can shop elsewhere.

Hey, it's July!  IIRC I think there is a certain dwarven wizard coming to my FLGS this month!  I'll be looking!

OK, I've got the PHB in front of me:

Gnomes are 3-3.5" high

Halflings are 3" high.

I've always thought gnomes were bigger than halflings. Or maybe it was just those big pointy red hats?

P.S: I've got a Dwarven Wizard character on the the backburner purely based on that mini! If he really comes with the pug familiar, that little hunk of lead is mine!

What if its an enlarged gnome?

On a serious note though, gnome minis do seem hard to come by though.Mabey the idea is that Gnomes and Halflings are similar in size,so the minis are possibly intended to be either. Then again mabey halfling minis dont look gnomish enough for the discering consumer.

I own Balto Burrowell, the gnome illusionist, and he is slightly shorter and slightly more slender than Reaper's halfling mage,(I think the name is Sore Sprigthumb or something).

As for gnew gnomes, I know that there is a female gnome bard, and a gnome fighter (not sure about the sex of that one) scheduled for up coming release.

Well, I gnow the Kenzer has two gnomes in the making. On is a gnome scroll caddy (got to love a henchman like that!) and the other is...gasp! A FEMALE gnome spellcaster! I gnow that gnome is a must have gnome!

See, I like playing Gnomes (actually liked, not too enthused about the change in their favored class with the revisions, at least for D&D), so I know how tall they are (BTW - " means inches, you mean feet or ').

And speaking of enlarged Gnomes and Kenzer, make sure that's not a Knome (or some other alt spelling).  Those are Kenzers "giant" Gnomes.

Sadly, the minis I used for my last Gnomes were the Kenzer Dwarven Wizard and a Ral Partha Gnome w/Spanner (the latter available for viewing in the Show Off section), not Reapers.

I heard that with 3.5 Ed., Wizards are trying to change Gnome's favored class from Illusionists to bards.  (I think I got it right).  But if that's the case, well, I hope there'll be more gnome bard minis coming out too.

And most of the halfling minis from Reaper just look too much like halflings and not gnomish to me.  But we can all wing it anyway.   I'm often confused on what a proper halfling should look like anyway.  I always pictured them to be young, chubby cheeked, gleeful look'n ppl with dimples or freckles.

Now D&D is trying to make them look more like small thin ppl?  Sure, our 15mm minis would fit the bill.  But what about those little chubby ones?  Possible Gnomes??????

*shrug*

I've played a gnome fighter in the past using a RP gnome. I like Balto. He is a good size, and looks like... well a gnome. He can easily be converted a rogue, ranger, or any other lightly armored character.

There are indeed some more gnomes coming up. I think I saw SG beginning to work on one at Origins.  But we probably won't see that for 9-12 months...

Dragon Snack: 3 apples high? Did you also have blue skin? I'm gnot sure, but it sounds like a different critter.

Kamui: Yes indeed Bard is the gnew favored class for Gnomes, and their spell lists include more illusions, and they get a bonus to the DC of their illusion spells.

Gnome favored class:

There is no try.  WotC owns D&D, so what they say goes.  I just wish there was a better reason given than "Illusionists are lame" (actual Andy Collins, the revision team lead, quote).  Since Bards are supposed to be "jack of all trades", why would you want them as a favored class (since a "jack of all trades" should RARELY multi-class).  If a specialist primary caster is a "lame" favored class, then a "JoaT" secondary spellcaster is moreso.  But they just redesigned the Bard, so they needed to give people a reason to play it...(/rant - for now - but there are many bad things in the "revisions").

Blue skin:

The DM never said anything about what color I was.  I never even realized he was thinking that until I went to attack something and he said "you can't reach".  All the players looked at each other and asked why, to which he replied "you're too small".  When I told him I was over 3' tall, he said no way, "Gnomes are only three apples tall".  Whatever he thought I was, it wasn't the same thing I had in mind.

I think they tried to make the halflings more like Dragonlance's kender race, and the gnomes more like hobbits.

I think they're asking too much from a fantasy lovers sensibilities. When I see the word "Halfling", I think what you think: Hobbit.

Those are the Fairy Meat Gnomes (ex. Gnome 1, Gnome 2, Gnome 3, Gnome 4) not the HackMaster miniatures (ex. Gnome Titan Fighter male, Gnome Illusionist male, Gnome Illusionist female, Gnome Scroll Caddy, Gnome Fighter (miner) male, Gnome Magic-User male).  :D

I think there are distinct differences between halflings and gnomes; enough to warrant a different mini.

I think a gnome tinkering with alchemists bottles and such would make a truly distinct mini.  Maybe a pair of them with before and after explosion faces would be cool too.  Heheh.  (it's the little differences like that that would help me buy some of the less popular minis).

Anyways, just throwing some ideas out there and hoping Reaper will go sculpt something neat.  I'll have to suffer without any cool gnomes for a while it seems.
