kkoene
Well, it has been a LONG time since I have been to the Reaper boards! (8+ months) After lurking for the last few days and seeing all the new faces (and some of the long time vets) I decided to post up some pics of my latest project. I originally did these ogres for Adepticon this last April. They took 3rd in the regiment category. I also entered them into the Chicago Golden Demons where they made first cut. These pics were not taken by me, once I have more time, I will post pics of the backs (LOTS of freehand tattoos). Any comments or suggestions are welcome! The ogre on the left has a converted weapon and gloved fist. The ogre on the right has a spikey mohawk. Not much really converted on these two. I sculpted the bandage from greenstuff. Not the greatest pic of the standard bearer. I added a second skull to the standard. The bases are all made from odd bits I had laying around. And the full unit. Oh yeah, each ogre has a tattoo of the Maw on their head.
fieldarchy
very nice. what is your recipe for skin? I really like it?
Cerridwyn1st
You entered these in Adepticon and Games Day? Can you enter a piece in GD that has been entered in another show? I like the look of your metals. Very gritty and realistic. Edited August 28, 2007 by Cerridwyn1st
SaintRigger
If i'm not mistaken - adepticon is a gaming tourny where armies are judged on preformance, but also composition and painting and GD is the demon competition which is just painting - so yes. At Adepticon they have a Rogue Demon painting competition as well as gaming tournaments. The Golden Demon rules do not address if the piece has won another painting competition, only that it can't have won another Golden Demon competition. @ fieldarchy: I will post the recipe when I can find it. I have to look through a few notebooks I keep. I'll PM it to you as well.
Mastertickles
Nicely done! The skin looks fantastic! I like how there is a contrast to it! It also really nice to see someone doing metallics! I bow to your greatness!

PurityThruFire
Wow! Fantastic job. I'd love it if you could give me a run down on how you did the metallics.
ixminis
Good to see ya again - Those are quite cuddly ogres! Nice job! The bear-trap is neat. (is that really a bear trap?)
Toad
Very nice all-around. They need to cut back on the Hagen daz. Lots of man-boobs...

kkoene
First of all, my thanks to everyone who took the time to stop by this thread and reply. @fieldarchy: I don't have the recipe memorized, I used the step-by step directions for an Ogre Dragon Shaggoth in White Dwarf #284. I can't find that issue right now, so I'm sorry I dont have more info for you. I rarely, if ever, use the same skin recipe more than once. @PurityThruFire: The metal recipe I use for my ogres is this: prime black base coat with a reddish brown of your choice (sometimes I use terracotta, sometimes it is vermin brown-GW color) dry brush with boltgun metal LIGHTLY! This is important as you will be doing numerous layers of drybrush so they will build up. ink wash with 1:1:1:10 ratio of black ink:red ink:brown ink:water stipple on bright orange. NOT a lot! Too much will not look right. Then dry brush with boltgun again. Ink wash and stipple as needed. Sometimes I get the effect I'm looking for after about 3 or four times through these steps, other times, it takes longer, or I will get a different look that I like. Most of my recipes are from various articles on the internet, in White Dwarf, or the old Harbinger magazine. I clip/copy the article and put it into a 3 ring binder that is organized by category for easy reference. The binder is in my studio right next to my painting area. Hope this answer's your questions. Feel free to drop me an email if you have any other painting questions or suggestions.
