I'll take epoxy over broccoli anyday

The drow (dark elf) figure is a male -- "sorcerer" rather than "sorceress".

Some notes...

The apparent mustache is just a trick of the light, on what I intended to be a small-lipped elven mouth. I would post an alternate view of the head, but I don't see the option to add a file. (Does the ability to add pics differ from thread to thread?)

Under the plates, the hips are very slim. But he is wearing a corset.

My contribution to Talin's concept art was the idea that even a powerful male dark elf is still subservient to the females: they make him wear uncomfortable clothes, no shoes, chains, etc.; he's emaciated and shifty, probably paranoid from lifelong mistreatment. I'll be painting whip-scars on his exposed back....

But if you want to call "him" a "her", who am I to stop you? ::P:

Eh, elves are feminine enough anyway, they could go either way ::P:

Yes the ability to post pictures does vary from thread to thread. Though you could always upload the pictures to a different location and then link them to this forum to provide different views.

I agree on how a male drow may look. Especially a sorcerer. The females would want to make sure he really knows his place even as a powerful magic caster! If a man gets out of line you gotta put him right back where he belongs (erm . . . that's my drow mentality popping out . . . ummm . . . yeah :poke: )

Very cool sculpt derek. That will be joining my dark elf ranks for sure. There aren't enough good male dark elves out there. And just regular elves look a little too sissified to be dark elves for the most part.

I figured that Drow was a male, now that its been confirmed I like it, would have been one pug fugley girl. See Derek seems to be actually sculpting all the anatomy on his models, (which is a good thing) thats why the hips may seem a little big but its just because of his gear. I say good job, most models would be toothpicks once you took there gear off, especially all the ridiculous new knights that keep popping up with the medieval power armor.

Cameras are not friendly to greens, I know first hand.

Dwarf is good, he doesn't have any feet though, especially since hes wearing plate. Everything else on him is great.

Blood stone gnomes are pretty bad. they look like something from Rackam, yuck. Imagine if the gnomes where actual gnomes, I don't know how many times Ive heard people say more gnomes..more gnomes but these guys are just ugly.

I think the deep gnomes are sweet, in that making me want to run a D&D game just so I can throw those minis on the table to terrify my players sort of way... but they still havn't forgiven me for that whole tree thing.

sure they are wierd, not cue, and a bit out of character for many Reaper minis, but they fit the awesome concept art really well, and based on fluff, pretty right on there.

Thanks, IG88. I'm still working on the level of accuracy in sculpting the underlying anatomy, since the thickness of a new layer of putty is sometimes more than the scaled thickness of the clothing/equipment.

And somebody please make sure that Meg never plays a female dark elf character... that would be too scary.... :;):

Anyway, I like all the art for the blood gnomes -- creepy little blokes -- and I like seeing what the various sculptors (Jason, Gene, Bobby, Werner too?) are turning out. IIRC, Jason called the shield "the most dangerous bit Reaper has ever produced"; the spikes are sticking straight into the mold so they should cast fine. (Right?) Nice work, Jason!

The dwarf has great character and proportions. He's dapper but still tough. (I like how the feet aren't too big. A dwarf's legs are like tree-trunks anyway, that big floppy feet wouldn't look right to me.) And the details (axe handle, feathers, etc)are crisp but not so fine as to be too hard to paint. Nice work, Tom!

The succubus also has very nice, um... anatomy... and I like the originality of the chained/flying pose. I think it's the bangs that evoke Vampirella the most. Nice work, Bob!

Thanks. I saw "sorcerer" and assumed male on the dark elf. Then I saw the apparent mustache and went scouring the forums to see if anyone else saw it.

You know, you never see a dark elf with a mustache. I guess we could always putty one on, but it might be interesting. Hm.

It is also a good day to be a fan of Ridolfi. I like that one.

Whether or not you say "yuck" to Rackham, like'em, love'em or hate'em, they upped the ante for sculpting and garnered a lot of attention. There's plenty of room in Reaper's catalog and Warlord game, for that matter, for something a little bit Rackham-y. Rackham-esque?

The sculpting biz has a lot of cross pollination of ideas, techniques, and flavors. Reaper's models have been getting better and better from the first day they started their business, and those early ones were pretty good. I see so much great stuff in this batch that my whole body may go into shock and convulsions when I run up my credit cards again!!

I wouldn't worry about the Bloodstone Gnomes dictating the direction of Reaper's models. They have so many talented sculptors and artists, and Warlord has a strong look to it, but I doubt there will be one overarching Reaper style--except loads of variety with lots of quality options.

If you buy these evil critters and don't like'em, PM me for a trade!! I'm looking forward to them.

The reference to getting your greens reminds me of a story I overheard in the classrooms at Gen Con. Apparently, one would-be sculptor advocated chewing the blue and yellow Kneadatite to get the proper blend. Yuck. I think I'll stick with using my fingers.

The only thing I can think of that would be nastier than chewing Greenstuff would be trying the same thing with Apoxysculpt. That stuff is water soluble...

That's because elves don't have facial hair.

If you gave drow a mustache, it would have to be one of those cheesy villian handlebar mustaches.

I've seen Elf models with facial hair. Two in fact. The old Grenadier box set of Sylvan Elves has an aged Elf Druid/Wizard with a chin beard. The Celtos line has a similar old crusty spellcaster with a chin beard. A mustache, however, I've not seen on an Elf model, ever.

Re: drow mustaches: They did have mustaches in some 2nd edition art...

The picture of the drow in the 1st-edition Fiend Folio (by Willingham, IIRC) had starkly contrasting highlights and shadows, and the upper lip was highlighted, in a way that looked like a long mustache if you imagined one there. When TSR did the 2nd-ed Monstrous Compendium, the new artist (Jim Holloway?) drew the drow with a definite mustache. And then Ral Partha's line of Official AD&D minis (for 2nd edition) included a male drow with a mustache (sculpted by Dennis Mize). But the Dragonlance books and other TSR sourcebooks made a point of saying that elves had no facial hair -- Tanis Half-Elven grew a beard to prove that he wasn't a full elf, for example.

One of the War of the Spider Queen books had a (younger) drow mage who used a hair growth cantrip to grow a long beard. But overall the canon is now that full elves don't have facial hair.

Of course, that just means that you can have all kinds of fun when you do make facial hair on an elf.

(I still don't like his pose.)

great batch of greens, the gnome looks like the artwork, which I love anyways (big WAR fan here), so glad to see they are close to their concept art. Love Derek painted stuff & I really like his sculpting as well & the sorc is no exception, he'll be a neat one to see in person. Dwarf is cool, but not over the top, but still he makes for a good figure. & the succubus is well a Ridolfi, what else is there to say, ha ha

great batch
