There was a discrepancy over this spell at the Asylum this weekend, I was wondering if anything official had been decided.

Part Death’s River

Casting Grade: Cleric 2

Availability: Nefsokar Lists

Type: Non-Attack

Point Cost: 60

Range: 18”

Area of Effect: 3”

# Models Affected: Any Friendly

Damage: N/A

LOS: Yes

Cast Defensively: No

Notes: The Casting Model and any friendly

Models within the 3” AOE the Casting Model

chooses to transport are teleported to a new

location within the 18” range. The Casting

Model appears at the target point, and any

Friendly Models brought along are placed

within 3” of the Casting Model. Models may

be placed into B2B contact.

As I understood it, this spell is cast much like a fire storm; target a 3" AOE up to 18 inches from the caster, then follow the notes section. The problem being I was told that the spell was supposed to be a 3" AOE centered on caster. We finally diced off to decide, but I want to make sure I am using it correctly.

I bolded the particulars above..

Assuming that the wording ued here is the same as that used in the Rage Chronicles, I would beg to differ from Qwyk's opinion. It is plainly worded that the caster may choose a 3" AOE worth of models to transport. It even includes the word CHOOSES... It does not say that it takes the models within 3" of the caster automatically.

Now, having said that, I do agree it would be less confusing had the wording been changed a hair or two.

I read it differently. My interpretation is that the "chooses" applies to the models not the 3" AOE. In other words, my edit would be "The Casting Model and any friendly Models (within the 3" AOE) the Casting Model chooses to transport are teleported to a new location within the 18" range." It seems odd that the casting model can have the AOE apply to an area that doesn't include him and then transport himself anyway.

One of those "Eats Shoots and Leaves" things.

Thanks, Gus!

But considering that the spell costs 60 points a pop (!!!) I'm inclined to go with Stubb's interpretation.

Considering how powerful the effect could be if used properly (say transporting Ammat and six Ammat Devourers to an exposed or otherwise vulnerable troop), a 60 point cost seems appropriate. For example, troop of elven archers on a ridge, 24" away who think that they have enough range to get another round of fire in on the approaching Ammat troop before having to duck behind mobile speed bumps to set up another shot. Sokar's Prophet casts Part Death's River, and, suddenly, Ammat and her friends are only 6" away, charge the remaining distance, and rip the archers to shreds.

Yep, that high cost accounts for a cleric being able to grab a bunch of guys in his/her troop that haven't activated yet, teleport them, and then have them attack. If you were able to suddenly surround and overwhelm a 200+ point model, that 60 point spell would have paid for itself.

Grab a bunch of guys with First Strike, and you could take down a powerful enemy without getting hurt!

You could even grab some Khamsin Raiders, teleport them 18", then have them do a 16" charge! Attacking with a troop of first strikes from 34" away...

Just start the game deploying Atifa with Holy Symbol completely surrounded by Khamsin Raiders. She'll have a CP of 9, making the spell automatically work. There isn't much of the battlefield you can't reach with a 34" move from the edge of your deployment zone. :B):

I still wish teleportation allowed you to fling models up into the air and allow them to take a pot-shot at flying models on their way down. In lieu of defensive strikes there'd be damage from the fall.

Just imagine Thoth cracking open a Canopic Jar and flinging himself and a pile of mummies 50 feet in the air... and the Angel of Aurelius is just like "WHAT THE HECK??!!??" as they all flail at him for a moment then plummet to their mangled doom...

Please. As if anyone actually uses elven archers these days. :)
