shipping miniatures

Just wondering what people recommend for shipping single miniatures? I have a few trades I need to ship out but I don;t really know how to go about it safely.... I was thinking of using a padded bubble wrap envelope but I worry something may be squashed/destroyed.

If it's a couple of figs, metal and unassembled, I might ship them in a bubble envelope, if they are not likely to easily bend. Even so, I mark it was fragile. Usually, however, I just use a small box and ship it first class, just because I feel more secure in surrounding them with bubble wrap or some other cushioning.

When I'm shipping painted figs, I always err on the side of caution. I've seen too many nice paintjobs damaged in transit due to insufficient packing. I recommend wrapping the mini in something very soft first; tissues or TP work well as a first layer. The I like foam or bubblewrap around that, taped into place. Then, put the little parcel inside a bigger box with plenty of packing material around it for cushioning. With bare metal, I'm a little less worried; so long as they don't get majorly bent or scratched, it's all good.

i buy the standard UPS style imitation wrap from the local Meyers, and then reinfoirce that with spare mini-blister foam.

simple, and it works...

if anythign , pay attention to the BOX!!! make sure it won't die upon contact with a hard surface after a 10 ft drop!!!

luck w/ shipping...

OK, here's what I do for a single painted mini I'm going to ship:

I bubble wrap the mini.

Then I put it into a box several times larger than the mini itself and stuff wadded newspaper/plastic bags/paper towelling/used wrapping paper all around the mini inside the box and stuff it till nothing moves in the box.

I've never had that fail me yet.

The boxes I ship with tend to be in the six inch by five inch by five inch size bracket.

I'm like black-helicopter-government-conspiracy paranoid about shipping stuff - I've got a length of soft cloth left over from a project a few years ago, so I cut off a small piece and wrap the mini in it, then put a few chunks of the foam from the mini blisters around it, and then wrap that in bubble wrap. Then I put that in the middle of the box surrounded by crumbled-up newspaper so that it doesn't move at all. For a big piece, or a diorama, sometimes I grab some leftover balsa wood and scrap together a quick box (just big enough for the mini to fit without moving around) for it before I bubblewrap it.

I take one of the plastic gerber baby food containers, wrap my mini in toilet paper, pad it with further toilet paper or foam (depending on the size of the mini), put the lid on the baby food container, preferrably with tape, then package the tiny box in a bigger box, with foam, peanuts, newspaper, or whatever I have lying around the house around it.

I have a box of 100 foam sheets I got from Staples. According to the picture on the box, they are meant to be used in-between china plates to prevent scratching. Basically they are very thin but cushionny sheets of white foam. They are soft, lint-free oil-free and dye-free..therefore good to wrap around a painted mini.

The last time I sent minis through UPS I cut up a foam sheet into several 2" wide strips, wrapped the mini up in the strips, placed the mini inside a small non-glass container (IIRC a plastic spice jar) and put that into a 6" cube heavy cardboard shipping box which I also bought at Staples. I packed larger box full of old bits of foam I had left over from one of my pluck-foam army trays.

If you know somebody who works in an electronics or jewellry store..or even in a discount retailer, you can probably ask them to get you some foam and/or bubblewrap for free. Places like that throw out loads of the stuff when they restock.

I get small "crush-proof" boxes from U-Line....as well as bubble wrap.

I wrap the mini with bubble wrap, put it in the crush proof box, and then put it in a priority mail box (or something similar)--and stuff bubble wrap around the smaller box to cradle it.

So, a wrapped mini in a 4x4 "sturdy" box, and then put the smaller box in a bigger 6x6 or 8x8 "regular" box.
