Is DV underpriced?

Do you think that models with high DV are appropriatly priced, or could they take on a few more points and still be very fieldable?

A few things to think about:

What model do you not leave home without?

What model do you dread seeing on the other side of the table?

Do you play time limited games or bounty point games where survival is worth more than offense?

In games was there ever something that you felt you answered tactically the best to your ability and couldn't overturn it.

I'd like to keep this geared more towards game experience using stories of played games, and farther away from what we think could/would/should happen.

I think a model with a high DV (meaning 14+) is definitely worth its cost whatever it is. Do I feel they are appropriately priced? Yes. Would I woof if they were more expensive? Yes. Would I still field them if they were 5 points more? Yes.

Better question to me is, do I like BEAST on just about every solo? NO. I think for the cost of some of them, there are several solos that should hve the beast tag removed.

This game is an offensive game, where the average MAV on the table is usually a MAV 5-6 before support, reach, and equipent/spell boosts. Between that and the fact that failing a fearsome charge check does no affect to a model's offensive output, I tend to put much less emphais on defense, but rather help stack the offense.

More answers later, as this is a very wide range of topics to discuss ad wil take some thinking.

I think they are. I've played a few games against Johnny's Crusaders and Dave's Overlords with a force consisting mainly of uber high pointed Shieldmaidens and then ones that were primarily elf infantry. And generally the games seemed pretty equivalent. I think in the Crusader games the end was about 4 shieldmaidens and a couple others against Uriel and a couple grunts. In the elf game it was a little more towards the Crusader side but only by a couple hundred points and that was mainly the fact that Johnny is a superior player and not the list. The Overlord games both were about the same.

I personally would never field a Shieldmaiden if they were any more expensive. I'd just assume take a mix of Berserkers, Warriors, Halberds and Kneebreakers. The high DV is great, but when they get gang hit, a model with a 13 DV isn't that tough, when they have four guys with spearmen hitting them 6 or 10 times at 8, 10 or 12. I took down a whole unit of Overlord heavy cav in a turn by mobbing them with a Unicorn, satyrs and fauns. The high DV isn't as powerful as it seems when a mob hits it.

DV isn't too cheap IMO. I've yet to see a model that wasn't taken down when surrounded. An example is pitting Rauthuros against an equivalent points value of low DV grunts. The low DV troops will own Rauth if he stays in close combat with them.

Two things to remember:

1) natural 10's autowound, if they didn't high DV would be a lot more powerful

2) High DV models are actually quite expensive so unless you cover their flanks with friendly troops everyone will be hitting them with +3 support bonus.
