zoot
Hello all, my name is Zoot. I am a decent painter. I live in Keller Texas with a local hobby shop right down the corner. They sell everything. But i wanted to start a warlord gaming night. They said okay. Only thing is i have never played any wargaming miniature whatsoever. They said there were many people intrested. Even the manager was intrested. I was thinking of joining black lighting but felt wrong because i didnt know how to play. I have limited resoureces and I was wondering how to go about getting started. I have a guardiaun dragon and cizzix warrior and a dark thrull cultist. Any idfeas on were to go from here. I am thinking of getting the book and what else would i need. I am very commited. Thanks Zoot.
Fruggs
You are going to need a rule book eventually as well as the rage chronicles that is available for downloading http://www.reapermini.com/pdf/Rage_Chronicles_1_0.pdf There is a Warlord quickstart guide is a free download http://www.reapermini.com/Games/Warlord You might also want to pick up the deluxe starter set it has stuff for two people to play and includes the rulebook and some paints http://www.reapermini.com/store/customer/p...t=80&page=5 if you have a lot of minis around you can substitute them for the reaper ones until you can get some official ones. Just use the datacards for whichever faction you want and pick out models. Then at least ou can learn the game and decide if you want to invest more in it. Mojoman
Hey there, Zoot. I just recently picked up the deluxe starter box that Fruggs mentioned. It has two 600point armies in it... Crusaders on one side, and Necropolis on the other. It would be sufficient for learning a few of the game mechanics, and it's helpful for getting lots of minis up-front. The book comes with it along with a coupl d10s and some d6s. I recommend this for anyone who is interested in learning Warlord and helping others understand what its all about. As far as learning the game in its fullness... I think that you would need quite a bit more than the starter kit. It has no archers, no cavalry, no large/giant based solos, etc. Some of that stuff would come with experience after playing with other folks and seeing how different factions relate. However, the starter kit is a good place to... err, umm... "start". -mojoman
Ranzadule
Welcome! I suggest picking two starter boxes that you like the looks of. Get them assembled and looking ok and then get the demos going. The RB is about 20 or so and the two boxes are 40 each or so. The RAGE download is free. So you're invested for 100, but then if you're the ringleader and you decide to go into the Black Lightning, you'll get that back many times over. Brushmaster
Umm , hate to break it to you Ranz , but apart from the Deluxe starter box , Reaper doesn't package the Faction starter boxes anymore , although one can can army packs of 6 to 9 warriors , etc . Castlebuilder
I realize that the starter armies aren't available through Reaper any more, but they are still around if you look. I just did a quick check. There are four in the E-bay stores if you search under "Warlord army". There was also an auction for a nice Reven army which ends 11-03-07. Also, the Krystal Keep in Dayton had several starter armies when I was down there for the Warlord tournament a week ago. rgtriplec
Miniature Giant has them all except the Deluxe Crusader Box, Lupines, Reptus and Darkspawn.
orcsoul
Aren't the datacards for the army boxes outdated?
vejlin
No matter where you buy your Warlord stuff, there's a good chances you'll get outdated datacards. Any blister that was packed prior to the RC'07 contains outdated datacards, so much of the stuff you find in stores and throughout the distribution system will have older datacards. It's not really much of a problem though since the datacards are available free on the Reapergames.com
Saint Vierzehn
Hi, Zoot. Reaper HQ is up in Denton. They host Warlord tournies on the last Saturday of each month, at noon. If you're interested in learning the game, show up about 11:00 and someone can show you the basics. I'll probably be there for the November tourney. If you want to borrow one of my armies to play, I'll loan it to you. -StV.

Stubbdog
This both for Zoot and Mojoman, Zoot, you say you're in Keller. Mojoman, it says DFW under your location area so I see you are possibly local too. My name is Jason Pape. I live in Colleyville. I am a local Black Lightning. First things, which store are you talking about? Might be a new store that I need to check out too. What are their hours? I'd be happy to give you some demos of the game, get you going. Currently, I gather at the Gamewyze over in Vista Ridge Mall on Tuesday evenings 6:30 til 9, if you feel like coming up. Or depending on the info related to the store you mentioned, I could always come out that way one night instead. Talk to me.

It's a listed gaming store for Reaper. They don't host any games there. I think all they do is WHF & 40k. They're only open until 7 or 8pm. I've spent the last month or so reading and re-reading both the core book and the RC'07 to try and familiarize myself with rules and stuff. I'm currently working on painting the minis that came in the starter box. I've yet to actually play the game. I might try to make it out to your store sometime, but that's a bit of a hike. If I'm going to drive that far, I think I'd rather go to paradise... a/k/a Asylum store... a/k/a Reaper HQ. I've got a buddy that is ravenously gathering a Razig army... I'm attempting to get into the Mercs. Once we have a sufficient hoard gathered we're going to pit them against one another. Maybe I can talk him into going with me out to Vista Ridge sometime to meet you and check out the gameplay. I'll see what I can do. -mojoman
Stubbdog
Gen X is not far from my house, but you named the big problem... They close at like 7 everyday, even weekends. Makes it near impossible for me to even think about them, since for me weeknights will almost always be more available than weekends. I know it can be a hike for some to Vista Ridge (one of the reasons I am askng Zoot here what store he is referring to). I happen to work over in north Dallas so even though its not directly on my drive home from work, it is not far off my path. That is one of the main reasons I go there. Reaper HQ is great, but it would be even another 15-20 minutes, with traffic, further than Vista Ridge. Another reason that Vista Ridge is my current base of operations. No matter if you havent played agame yet. Thats why I am a Black Lightning. To help teach and answer questions and get people comfortable. Besides, with the changes in the datacards, the playing field is much more leveled and I have seen plenty of new players beat up experienced players. Its all in the dice.
