VelveteenRabbit
I think Warlord would do well to use the SW Skirmish rules... If someone were to give special abilities and points to the existing models I think it would be a pretty strong game. I'm not very fond of the Warlord rules personally. If someone were to do that a role-playing rules set wouldn't take any time at all, really you could combine it all into one book.
joshuaslater
What does one need to play? I've got the original SW book, and looking to run a D&D type game. Should I pick up the Explorer's Handbook with the revisions, and the Fantasy toolkits they have for download?
Deguello
I have the explorer edition. I wasn't really looking at stepping on any toes as far as the warlords rules.. But there is definite potential for Warlords to have a campaign.
joshuaslater
Warlord is what it is. It's a very simple mechanic. It was not designed to be complicated, but it still has strategic depth. I didn't feel you were stepping on any toes. Converting a tabletop mechanic to a roleplaying one however, would take a little more that what Warlord currently has; it was designed as a tabletop game, so you would have to add more detail for an RPG. It does have however, the capability for campaign play that's pretty well done. Scenarios with objectives are easy to play out.
VelveteenRabbit
Yes, the Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition and the Fantasy Toolkits would get you where you want to be. Actually, I just use the handbook and no toolkits and don't feel particularly lacking. Apparently the new Shaintar setting is pretty nifty though, so I will have to give that a try when it's released in book form. I don't mean to step on any toes either. I just am not really a fan of the Warlord rules but I love the models and I love Savage Worlds. I therefore believe I would love a game that combined the two... I'm essentially working on something to that effect already, so I guess that will have to do.
HANZO
The showdown (mini) rules are free on pennicle's website. as well as a list for point values of minis. my choice to run with showdown is the fact that my players already know SW. And the fact that its skirmish rules. not that you could not use a lot of minis but its great for small groups. But i love reapers minis. The warlord line just makes me drool. And the new plastic prepainted will be great for my mooks. I have never played warlord. But from what i see of the factions id imagin RP'n in its world would be sweet. And you got a whole mini line ready to go to boot. ::D:
daHob
I haven't had a chance to run it yet, but I have high hopes for the system. I'm hoping it will help me reduce my GM prep time. I love the Exalted universe, but trying to come up with balanced bad guys when I haven't internalized 1000 pages of rules can be a chore. Also, I found an Earthdawn conversion. Earthdawn is one of those games I've always wanted to run but can't because the rules (IMO) suck. A few useful links: Savage Worlds Combat Survival Guide A good fan site with a bunch of system conversions A pretty good bestiary
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted December 8, 2007 Moderator Share Posted December 8, 2007 Actually, Savage Worlds itself makes for a pretty good skirmish system, so long as you avoid things that have no tabletop effect. All Showdown does is package it and add points values.
HANZO
Actually, Savage Worlds itself makes for a pretty good skirmish system, so long as you avoid things that have no tabletop effect. All Showdown does is package it and add points values. that is all showdown is. Its SW for table top. Which is based off the weird wars mini game to begin with. Its just the SW rules with the RP based stuff stripped away.
VelveteenRabbit
Not exactly. There are also point values associated and special abilities that do not necessarily correlate to the RPG Edges. There is a bit extra, and a lot less... I'd love to see the Warlord models get points and abilities for SW Showdown.
HANZO
What does one need to play? I've got the original SW book, and looking to run a D&D type game. Should I pick up the Explorer's Handbook with the revisions, and the Fantasy toolkits they have for download? check out dragonsfoot.org there is a conversion called Advanced Dungeon and savages. Its really good. A lot of good downloads on there site for SW too.

I will be doing a campaign in Taltos. Probably on FG during the week, but I would love to have a place to play f-t-f on the weekend
joshuaslater
We're forming up a small group now. I'm excited by the prospect of running a game again, something other than D&D. Thanks for the links. I'll check'em out.
