Gus Landt
So, I wonder. . . They are going to put up "symbols from other religions". To a lot of people (maybe not a majority, but certainly not an insignificant number), the tree is a purely secular symbol. Doesn't that mean that the university should put up a cross or a crucifix as definitive symbol of Christianity? I mean, since they want all the religions to be represented and all. . . . I hope so. I've no idea how a decorated tree is supposed to represent Christianity. If they put up a bunch of other religious stuff, they better have a cross up too. Gus don't you remember, it said in the Bible. The Romans hung Jesus from a large pine tree, tying him with strands of metallic wire, piercing his flesh with hanging glass baubles, and atop his head placed a large star. At his feet they piled large colorfully wrapped rocks which were later passed out to the nice legionaires.
wyrmgear
Man... I had this long ol diatribe typed up about this, but hey, people will be who they are and believe what they wish. Myself included (obviously) I would say it is good that someone complained. Not for the core reason of the complaint, but rather because it reminds us of all the different people in the world and how boring a place it would be if we were all the same. Besides, it certainly sparked some good conversation here. Quicksilver, yer killing me Did they go out caroling after?
Almathea Toes
On the same lines type quebec commission on reasonable accommodation into google. I'd link to an article, but it's been happening for the last month and a half. So there's more than a few. It's hit the front page roughly once a week of the local montreal english paper. I think the vast majority of regular people are sick of the entire thing. I figure some of the comments could keep bee keepers going for ever. ixminis
Isn't an ideology that ensures that all are treated equally no matter their contribution to the whole communism? I'm probably just getting tired and skipping too much of the conversation...
Spike
Odd isn't it that nobody ever gets their knickers in a similar twist when spring comes and the lawn of the White House is teeming with kids rolling EASTER eggs.
Mojoman
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “ Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:10-14 This is what Christmas is all about. Not a tree or giving presents. It's a sign of God's love for His people. It's my wish that each of you have time to be with those you love and that warmth and cheer will be with you throughout the season. Don't let the world bring you down. Merry Christmas! -Mojoman
dargrin
This seems like a bunch of people with "What about me!!" complex that happens to allot of college campuses. I can't wait for someone to say " I'm offened because you're offended."

Baphomet69
I'm an atheist. A pretty staunch atheist. I personally believe the world will be a better place if/when the human race finally grows out of religion (ALL religion). Yet I love Christmas. As Meg, Aryanun and others have said, the 'trappings' (including the Pagan tree) are wonderful! Even better is the 'good will toward men' atmosphere that pervades the season. I don't personally recognize the religious aspects of it, but love the lights, colors, sounds, etc. all the same. I think it has developed into more of a cultural event for many folks these days, anyway. Kind of funny that, pagan to christian to secular. Talk about evolution! However, even if I didn't like Christmas I would just go about my business and do my thing, not complain that I was offended. That really ticks me off. I couldn't give a fig about hannukah, kwanza, easter, lent or any other religious holiday. But I don't raise a fuss when they are observed by others, unless they try and shove it down my throat. They are just regular days for me. No harm, no foul. Enchantra, I'm with the others, I don't think most reasonable people even really noticed that the complainer was Jewish. I didn't. I just took note of another whining 'PC' idiot. Kristof65, well said! The 'reasonable people' need to take life back from the PC crowd. When will society stop listening to the whining and making the majority bend to a minority's unreasonable demands?!? <sigh> This post didn't come out the way I intended and I don't think I made the points I wanted to make, at least not how I heard them in my head. Oh well.
Enchantra
Enchantra, I'm with the others, I don't think most reasonable people even really noticed that the complainer was Jewish. I didn't. I just took note of another whining 'PC' idiot. I cannot stand most whining PC people myself. I just came back to this thread and found a few responses. I'm thinking something I said wasn't taken as it was intended, which is probably the case since I'm just getting off an eight day work week, have been up since 3AM, and can barely keep my eyes open, so forming coherent thoughts and putting them to words might not be working as well as intended. My goal in my posting was to perhaps stop someone from thinking others Jews might be like this PC guy in the article. I figured someone might see that and make a comment so I figured if I commented first, perhaps I would quell any issues before they popped up. I wasn't offended in the least by anything anyone has posted.

That I didn't even really notice his religion, nor would I have blamed his religion, just his own stupidity. No worries, we were on the same wavelength. fieldarchy
yeah Enchantra that was the understanding I took away from what you said. I didn't notice what faith the guy was I just read the article about some stupid, whining, jack@$$. He could be purple, blue, white, black, yellow, Christian, Satanist, Jewish, etc and I wouldn't have noticed or cared. He just shouldn't have gone around causing a fuss over something that wasn't really offensive in the first place.
kristof65
Same here, Enchantra - I wasn't offended in the least by your comments, nor did I think you were. Just like you wanted us to know all Jews weren't like that jerk, I wanted you to know that most of us wouldn't take him as a typical one either.
