Stubbdog
Well, I defintaly think I wnot be participating in the exchanges anymore.... This is extremely disapointing that its been like 8 months and as far as I can tell there is still over a third of the people that have not received their minis. dargrin
This is disappointing. Doesn't help that people don't communicate either one way or another. It hurts the whole reason why these were done in the first place.
GreyHorde
Exchanges used to be pretty good not too long ago. What changed?
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted August 15, 2008 Moderator Share Posted August 15, 2008 I think they've always been like this. I also notice that the second 20-person exchange went a whole lot better. For me it's never been about getting a mini from someone, it's been about doing something whimsically cool for someone else. Stubbdog
Well I agree with that overall. For my last 2 exchanges I have put over 20 hours into the paintjobs. I wanted to do it to inspire other people in their own work to show what spending a little time on them can do in the results department. I am no Derek, Anne, or Jester, but I am not bad either. And I am not so mch disapointed because I personally didnt receive a mini yet in this thing. I am disapointed that as a whole, 30% of the people involved, have basically decided that the other people in this list are not worth the time. GreyHorde
Good point, Froggy. I forgot about "Take Two" and you're right, it looks like that one was substantially completed. If I read the thread correctly, though, as of 30 days past the deadline, only 40% reported both sent and received. That figure jumped to 90% in less than a week, though, so it was probably just a communication/reporting issue. I wonder if that was also the problem with the first one? Maybe a higher percentage received without reporting? Hmmm... Nope, in the first '20 person exchange', 6 are still not showing sent vs. 8 not showing received. Did 2 get lost in the mail? Reported sent, but not actually sent? Did 2 recipients forget to post or PM when they got their mini? Still, even giving the benefit of the doubt to the senders, 6 of 22 is over 27%. One communicated status and indicated there was a reason, so the best I can come up with is 5 of 22, or about 23%. That's about the same as most no-show rates, even when money is involved, so maybe it's not quite as bad as it looks. I may be giving too much credit, though. I share your disappoinment in the first round, but I also have some hope for future exchanges; even with delays and sub-par communication, "Take Two" seems to have been more successful. Maybe in future exchanges the expectations for deadlines and communication <sigh..."rules"> should be defined. Maybe those who did not confirm sent/received mini, or fail to respond to follow up e-mails and PMs, etc., should be blocked from future exchanges. The block could be removed if they convince the coordinator(s) of the steps taken to prevent recurrence. Further violations could result in being banned permanently from public forum group exchanges. Just spitballing ideas, here. I guess I am hoping the first one will still somehow sort itself out, and by taking into account the results of Take Two maybe you'll reconsider participating in other exchanges down the line. The exchange pool would indeed be shallow without your talents.
Spike
Yes, 1/3 is a pretty disappointing statement about folks in general...especially since most of us believe(d) that mini painters as a group would be better than that.
Dragon Snack
Aphrella has received. Very late, but handed over in person...
