Heresy/Hasslefree Mage.

This Hasslefree fig has been given a Flesh Golem Head from Heresy. I plan on using him for a Savage Worlds campaign as a "Brain" type a la, "Pinky and the Brain", to try and take over the world. This is the first in a series, as I've bought enough Heresy bits for making my own Broken Fodder to add to my Darkspawn. I think he may also double as my non-tournament Pain Mage too. All around usefulness.

Any constructive criticism is appreciated, especially since I'm going to leave this guy be, and put together another version if he indeed, becomes more powerful and takes over the world. The next one may utilize the backpiece from the Witch Queen, and swap the staff for something more wicked. Hopefully by then my painting will improve as I'm trying more techniques. For as long as I've been painting, it's always been quick and dirty, get'em on the table painting, and the adjustment to learning new techniques is slow. I understand after a time they come second nature, but man, it seems like a long, hard, slog!!

He really does "pop" with the white trim, but it is over the top!! As for the robes definitely have to work on highlights. I've already dipped him and sealed him, and the next version I'll paint may be some time away, so for now, he's a proverbial archive record of my painting progress. Thanks for the tips. Cheers.

Interesting little figure. I think you have done a good bit of work on him. The colors are well chosen--some red/green contrast and the bright pink brain definitely catches your eye and becomes the focal point (as it should be) for the mini. IMO he is adequately shaded. As far as critiques, I think the next step would be some additional highlighting. The face seems to have some highlighting (although is that just ambient light?) but the rest of the figure could go with a shade or two higher.

I'm really endeavoring to learn highlighting and shading. So long has been spent at a plateau that it feels good to be trying things like layering, and actually THINNING THE PAINT!!!!

Over on the Forum of Doom someone took this same model and put a goblin head on him; dead ringer for Yoda. It was brilliant.

I went a little nuts for the Flesh Golem head sprue; soon I will be posting more pics of these heads on some Reaper Warlord Bondslave bodies for a "Make yr own Broken Fodder" conversion.

Thanks again, all, as I've discovered this site has the most dedicated, experienced, and above all, friendly, group of painters to bounce ideas off of and get feedback from.

Kings to you.
