What army sized projects are you doing this year?

Recommended Posts

I've started building an Excel sheet, so I can track progress off everything in my "Let's get this done" list. Right now, with less than 25% of what's on my list above entered, I have the following

Total Figures 291

% Assembled 93

% Primed 91

% Painted 4

% Finished 0

(% Assembled & Primed tend to be pretty close, but not always, due to drying times or weather. The discrepancy between painted & finished would be due to basing or sealing.)

The depressing part is that the numbers for primed, painted or finished won't be getting much better as I add things to the list. I do hope to have my IG Tank Company & Baneblade assembled and primed before the weekend is out, as well as getting some Marine vehicles built and primed.

I have a shelf directly above where I paint/usually use the computer at night with all the miniatures that I have that need to be painted that month. Normally seeing that is enough of a reason to get to work. Having the computer next to them actually goes a long way to motivate as well, since every time I check my email or whatever...there they are - taunting me.

Oh, now you make me want to do a spreadsheet to see how far behind I am...which will put me further behind. <sigh>

I can generally work on the spreadsheet during the day when the kids are awake. I am trying to get in 5-10 hours per week of painting time, which, while it probably won't get me caught up, can stop me falling behind so much.

And beware - if you have too many things, a spreadsheet will just really, really depress you. I haven't added all the 40k stuff, and I have barely touched the FoW listing. Once I add in CAV, Warmachine, Hordes.. . . my preliminary guess is about 1200 figures/bases (for FoW I count bases, not individual figs), if not 1500. Of that, most needs to be assembled, primed and painted.

Yeah, there is always that possibility. The reason it appealed to me though, was figuring out percentage wise which armies are closest to completion. I was pretty depressed about my unpainted Lizardman army for years, then I took a "Paint that Army" speed painting class last Ghengis Con, and within a month I had taken that army from the 75% Assembled & Primed state to 75% Completed state. That made me feel REALLY good. Several of my other GW armies are probably in the 40-80% finished state, actually completing a few of those would boost my ego.

Sure. Right now, I take some consolation in the fact that it is not as dire as it seems. For example, the Blaneblade and the Leman Russ company are listed as being unassembled. This is true, sort of. The Baneblade still needs to have a few things done to it (finish the turret and most of the little detail bits), and the tanks vary from "still needs details added" to "just barely started"; but most tend toward the former, rather than the latter. So I have a lot of things that are started, but somewhere between NIB and ready for priming. I'm hoping to clear most of that logjam in the next month or so, and moving everything into the "primed" category.

Hey, anyone on this board play Warhammer Ancient Battles?

Yes.

If you're patient, the Divine Wind supplement covering Samurai is in the offing, from last I heard early this year...

Damon.

And by the time it finally gets published I'll have an army! I was looking through the current WAB army lists and there's nothing for Ashigaru arquebusiers.

AFAIK they will be in there. The supp is to cover most stuff up to the Sengoku-jidai.

I plan on having a Gempei war army ready myself.

There may be lists for the Monol invasion so I hear...an all Korean army would rock too!

Damon.

Gah. I forgot about two other projects I wanted to work on - my Warmaster armies and my Ogre stuff. Ogre stuff is a lot like CAV - small tanks and itty-bitty infantry are pretty easy to paint. Warmaster - not so much.

That's gonna skew my averages back down, hard, because I have a lot of Warmaster stuff.

Oh man, I 've got tons of stuff on the plate for this year ::P:

Contiue working on my Warmachine Protectorate force.

Finish up a smaller sized Cryx warband.

Work on my Urban War Viridian force.

Work on my Rezolution APAC force.

Work on a small Light Faction Anima Tactics force.

Work on my Hell Dorado demons.

I think that's it so far ::D:

And I just managed to add to this the line of Spinespur figures ::P:

*Sigh*

And now I've added to all this;

The Dark faction for Anima Tactics along with all the neutral aligned models

A fairly decent sized Ritterlich force for CAV

This summer I am (supposed to be) doing a Little Bighorn diorama for Custer State Park. 1 for 1 is what the initial requests were for

>>>

A couple years ago Pete Panzeri did that as the big demo game for Historicon. The figs went up for sale; some might still be available. All Old Glory IIRC.

? How does a diorama depicting a fatal motorcycle accident help _sell_ motorcycles ?

Some time ago I starting logging my figure purchases into a spreadsheet, but haven't put all the previous stuff from the closet into it. That would be a project.

Last night I actually PAINTED for a couple hours. Want to do 30 Spanish Arquebusiers that have been primed for a long time. Having trouble with color harmony, as usual.

After that I might decide to work on the 25mm Crusader vs Arab project, so that I can get properly motivated to play the Shattered Lances rules.

Or I could work on a bunch of Gendarmes that were black primed so I could try the Dallimore style.

Still have some bits of artillery train on the table to be finished off, too.

All of my Leman Russ tanks have now moved into the "still need to add details, but basically assembled" status. I'm hoping to get to finish them tomorrow, and maybe even prime them if the glue is dry. If not, they can get primed during the week. I've also started sorting out the Warmaster again - it had been boxed up, so I am finding things and going "When did I buy a Dark Elf hydra?"

Right now, until I update my spreadsheet again, about half of the listed 330-ish figures are assembled and primed, which is a decent start. I might even get base colors on some things in the next few days - I need to pick up brushes again, soon, just to keep in practice.

OK, so I spent a few hours reconciling my spreadsheet figure indices. Now back to deciding on the next project.

Got into another "orphan" sideshow, making some mantlet bases for a Hussite army. Someone recently starting making nice Hussite shield decals, need to find that site again and see if a US distributor has them yet.

Need more 25mm mantlets too. The ones I have are by Irregular Miniatures but I need more & would like a variety. Could scratch build them too, but these have a nice curve at the top.

Warmachine

Khador, I have around 30 or so models assembled and waiting for paint, and 30 or so unassembled. I'd like to assemble everything, and paint the more commonly used models, that's around 30 models.

Hordes

Legion - have a couple units and couple beasts to paint up to feel somewhat caught up. Around 25 models.

Circle - Have lots to catch up, cav, infantry, beasts, and a warlock. Around 40 models.

Helldorado

Westerners - I'd like to keep up to date on the current releases. I have around 5 models to get there, and there are a couple release scheduled every other month or so. That makes this the most attainable goal I have.
