Flamer and Point Blank Bonus

Recommended Posts

Please give me a break guys. Everytime one of you makes another one of these posts I have to check to see if there's a rules question or not. ::P:

I think the chances of getting rules clarifications in this thread have gone up in smoke.

I'm pretty much ranted out on Flamers. The changes would help, but the biggest thing with a Flamer/Flame Thrower type weapon was that it is dangerous. Yes they are devastating for certain niche roles, but you are required to carry around a supply of volatile fuel for the Flamer. Basically you were walking around with bomb strapped to your back. A rule to reflect this would put flamers in their proper historical/military context (i.e. dangerous to both sides) -- perhaps some additional penalty/damage when a Flamer armed unit takes Critical Damage?

Perhaps there could be a Special Ability called "Flamer"? Anybody who shoots at a model with the flamer special ability is considered to have the Blaster SA.

hmmmm sounds interesting...... i would also incorporate the catastrophic damage rules from mil net... as we all have seen in war movies when the guy with the flamethrower gets hit is pretty catastophic i.e. omaha beach scene in saving private ryan

starts humming amoking in the CAV room LOL

your all fired

ok thats the end of it, I'm going to ask we lock this thread as we have not only beaten, cooked and feasted on the dead horse but now your trying to turn it into a ghost rider diorama.

If the original question or concern wasn't answered please let me know. We are looking at flamers, but they probably won't be explosive in nature.

Just to chime in before it gets locked - I think Flamers are fine as is. I have no problems with the cooking hard targets at close range, and they should be as brutaly effective at soft targets in close range. And there should be absolutely no reason for a flamer equiped vehicle to have some sort of catastrophic damage effect when hit - it just isn't part of the rules. We add that, and you have to think about missiles exploding, etc. If I wanted that, I would play Battletech.

It is a template effect also - so no reason not to affect everything in the template (with possibly the exception of blocking terrain).

I would vote to keep them as is.

Mike
