kristof65
After I confirmed Gary's death via the Associated Press, I made it a point to send the reference to my local news station, and asked them to mention Gary's life and passing, pointing out that he was as important to the gaming community as any sports star is to sports fans. I encourage others here to do the same - Gary's passing shouldn't be relegated to obscurity.
Helltown
Methinks that our Store DM will be on the upset side of things today... A moment of silence is in order for this Saturday's campaign for certain. He's not just the proud poppa of D&D but really fantasy hobby gaming in general... Bruunwald
His original ideas in adapting wargame stats to create realized individual characters are still the genesis for not only tabletop RPGs, but legions of video games everywhere. We all owe him at least a moment of gratitude. Thanks Gary.
joshuaslater
A sad day for the world, not just gamers. He opened doors with his ideas and his influence will be felt for generations. I doubt his passing will diminish his impact, or go unnoticed.

Enchantra
There have been to many deaths the past couple years of the "greats" we associate with this hobby. It's truly a very sad day for the Gaming community. My prayers are with his family and friends.

Erion
One of my co-workers, knowing my gaming habits, actually mentioned this to me. My jaw dropped as well. There will be a toast of Mt. Dew at our thursday game, to be certain... EDIT: The official D&D site has gone black
Sergeant_Crunch
Just stumbled across this on another board and needless to say I'm saddened. I started playing D&D in 4th grade and it eventually led to my wargaming addiction and affinity for little sculptures. A day for many to mourn. paintminion
I remember learning first Car Wars with my high school friends, then going to WisCon (convention in Madison) and our high school group eventually played a lot of different rpg's and discovered Gen Con where we actually got to meet and talk with Gary. Growing up in the Lake Geneva area (Twin Lakes is about 15 minutes away, Madison about a bit over an hour), Art's sister and her friends were heavily into D&D, and when she went off to college all her stuff went to my husband. We still have that original (white box) set today. Art's parent's talk about supporting his D&D habit because at least it got him reading and doing math! I'm not sure what exactly the definition of geek is, but we were always more into rpg's than sports. We were smart kids looking to have fun together that didn't include drinking, sex, or drugs. So we ate M&M's, cheese puffs, and drank coca cola while we played the weirdest things. Still, our parent's were supportive if not understanding what we did. So thank you, Gary Gygax, for helping bring out some of the better times, the friendliest times, the funniest times of my life, both in the past and today. My life is better and richer for it. May the Great DM in the sky welcome you into his gaming group.
