For the love of Taltos, please don’t let them call the Razig sharkman model Jaus Sharkman. It’s so...gah! Please let this be a placeholder name. Call it a wereshark. Call it a Wavecursed, a sailor who offended the sea god. Call it a Rogue Phanica, an outcast member of a race of deep sea dwellers. Call it bloody anything else! Why do we have to try to be cute? We be funny? Does it look funny to you? Does it make you laugh? I like the model, and seeing as I would like the Razig army in my collection, I will not buy anything called Jaus Sharkman. The other models would take its milk money.

Warwick,

Just wanted to take time out for a sec and say that post on the vampires made me giggle pretty good. Keep posting my friend. I like your style. Speaking of which, I gotta get you and Bill down here again sometime for some dice rolling. But, we can discuss that ina different thread.

Now back to regular scheduled programming...

I play mercenaries (Sisters of the Blade) and there are a few things I want to bring up.

1. Leader/Goon stat discrepencies.

All SotB units BUT the warlord and captain have the Ranger SA. Why?

The SotB Captain and Sergeant are WORSE than the base Bladesister (significantly). Why?

There isnt any kind of Bowsister Leader. (I would like one)

2. Scoundrel's Luck sucks

Especially compared to many of the other army SA's

I think that to be even close to as good as some of the other army SA's it would need to be 1-2 rerolls per turn. Not per game.

Sometimes leaders are very similar but not quite the same as the troops the lead . I think another example would be the Elven Royal Guard Sergeant and hi similarity with those troops . Yes , some FA's are not as good as others . One thing at a time , be patient .

Knarfy and I had just played a game on Thursday and it became painfully obvious that not all FA's are equal. (I play Darkspawn.)

The Leader/Goon issue was a little annoying in that his troopers could do their ranger move, but this caused the leaders to end up being at the back of the troop when the Pre-Battle moves were done. We both thought this was a bit goofy.

I am. I will admit that reducing the point costs of one of the more powerful mages in the game (The Witch Queen) had me scratching my head a bit. Even when Counter Spelled her spells happen, but I say oh well. I love my Darkspawn. I especially love that the DHL Minis I collected primarily for D&D are now welcome.

I've seen at least a couple proposals for the BSG FA.

I think it is a bad idea to reward a player when an opponent kills one of your models. I think it would be a better idea to allow BSG's to sacrifice their own troops for the benefits.

-StV.

Well looking at the Rage beta rules, the gnomes have no real great faction ability, so they are going to be quite squishy...

If the concern is Healers now I can't see why, we are talking about a single model in the army that has the ability. Apart from the FA healing component I can't see this as a real issue.

What if any sort of healing wasn't a free action and required a non-combat action? And what if it wasn't linked to the BSG models dying in any way?

My thoughts on this are the Vampires get a free healing without any noncombat action being used, why can't another faction get a similar ability? that or make the vampires have to burn a noncombat action too

my mistake

The vampires have a pretty sweet deal though because anyone with healer has to burn an attack action

So on another check, I noticed that not only does samantha have ranger now (YAY) but so does Nicole, AND...

Nicole doesnt suck anymore!

Finally, I can take a captain that isnt a pushover compared to my basic troops :D

Though marda still has less damage tracks than the basic bladesisters... Which is still kinda odd.

Course that doesnt really matter now, since Nicole doesnt suck anymore :D

Now we just need a faction sublist.... :;):

Vampires: Sorry, I've played with and against these guys, Vampiric feeding is far form a powerful FA. This has been discussed many times, it isn't worth dragging up again.

Mercs: Scoundrel's luck isn't great, but it is nice in that you will always have opportunity to use it. I think Change of Heart + Scoundrel's is fairly decent. Judging by the number of Merc players there must not be all that wrong with the faction.

FA in general: They add flavor, and you can tailor your armies to take advantage of them, but the number of close games as compared to blowouts I've had when playing Warlord suggest to me they aren't all that unbalanced. As stated in an earlier post it is often a game of rock paper scissors, many FA's are good against some factions but nearly useless against others.

Gnomes FA: I think their FA is pretty decent, essentially it prevent them for being shot at or having spells cast on them for the entire first turn, and remember they can burrow until the end of their movement in turn 2 as well, so many of their models can avoid ranged and casting combat in turn two as well possibly (Not to mention that by turn two they could be in position to surface directly into HtH. once they surface, unlike the rest of us, they will have a much easier time getting LOS with their casters. I like their FA.

Mages RC07: Witch Queen or not, every Mage in the game needed the points cost they got, they weren't even remotely cost effective.

Looking over the new SA's and FA's, I must say that I am intrigued with Leap and The Koborlas' FA Feral Rage. I also like the Mec FA Alliances reforged. It allows me to continue to use the merc army that I built.

For Ivy Crown Archers, they will be going up to 49 points to account for their new +1 RAV and Marksman/2. Still don't think that's good enough? You will when you find out we're adding Ranged Support into the game.

So am I just blind or did ranged support not make the cut? or do I misunderstand and its just that archers got a points reuction and alot of figs lost deflect points?

Love the new stuff by the way I am just curious

Thanks Gus and all you BL out there.
