TKD
I'm searching around trying to find if anyone made a miniature of the old AD&D/D&D demon lord Juiblex. You know, the slime-and-ooze demon lord. I thought Reaper had, but I guess I must have been mis-remembered, conflating the run of demons done a few years ago with the gibbering mouther-like mini done at the same time. Did Reaper or any other company put out a suitable miniature? If not I'll have to kit-bash one up eventually but I'd rather spend the money on a professional figure. Thanks! Mad Jack
<opens up his 1st Ed.Monster Manual> To my knowledge, nobody's ever put out a mini that looked similar to the illustrations in the MM... The easiest way to convert something is to start with a mini of a roper or other stalagmite-shaped monster. Mix up some white glue or acrylic medium or something and drip it over the top just a tiny bit at a time so it runs slowly down the sides in random patterns to get that "blob" effect. Use a little less each time so it doesn't slide down as far before drying. It'll take awhile cuz you'd have to let each one dry before you do the next one. When you get your drip-shapes about halfway up the mini, start greenstuffing a couple of random eyes of different sizes onto it inbetween the drips. Once it's painted, it'll look really cool. TKD
Thanks. That's a good suggestion. I'm far away from my minis at the moment so I can't work on any projects. It'll be a few months at least. But...I could use this Reaper mini as a base: Stone Lurker Or just make my own out of greenstuff, it's going to get buried anyway. I'd need to get BBs or other tiny metal balls to use for eyes. They'll pain up nicely and the pucker marks around where I push them in will make them look like they belong. Maybe I'll just get lucky and someone will put one out. But I'll remember that suggestions, Mad Jack, it's a good way to make an oozing demon figure for sure. Thank you. TKD
DHL 2838 Faceless Horror Yeah, that's the one I mentioned conflating with the run of demon minis a few years back. It's got too many teeth to be Juiblex. Juiblex spews ooze, it doesn't bite things. Here's the AD&D Monster Manual image: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/alumni_Juiblex.jpg Not similar enough. If I bought a Faceless Horror, I'd need to remove or otherwise obliterate all those teeth. It'd be faster building from the ground up! Thanks for the suggestion, though. ixminis
Yeah, take that roper and grind up sponge or cork and then coat it like crazy ... or drip hot glue all over it... hrm... ideas ideas...
Frankthedm
Almost a decade back there was a toy for the marvel villian Mysterio. His torso was rising out of a bubbling cloud. Once you clipped him off it, it would actually work well for the 1e MM look of Juiblex.
Joe Kutz
Grab a brick of Sculpey - mash till it looks about right - bake. Done and Done. I've done several blobs, masses and slugs with Sculpey that they didn't have miniatures for for various reasons. The nice thing about amorphous masses is that you don't need a whole lot of sculpting ability to deal with them, and they generally go pretty quick. You can make huge ones for pretty cheap too - which is an added benefit.
CuCulain42
Have you considered using the Shoggoth from CoC? Shoggie
rgtriplec
You could always sand the unwanted teeth off of the faceless horror. Then there is the undead ooze... http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/02908
Gus Landt
Grenadier put out an actual Juiblex miniature in their Fantasy Lords line. It was only found in a boxed set (product code 6006) called 'Demons: Nightmares of the Pit'. Here is a pic of the minis in that boxed set. Juiblex is bottom row center:

Juiblex is bottom row center: He looks like he's got a few 2-3 sets of teeth. The MM pic has 2-3 also. He is called Juiblex the Faceless lord, I think the faceless horror is supposed to be one. Juiblex was probably a licensed name.
TKD
Wow Gus, nice find. That top-left demon was in a diorama I saw in Dragon magazine way back when, someone had splattered it with "blood" and it looked really gory. That reminds me of when I worked IT in a college...some professor had a Grenadier Demogorgon in his office, unpainted. I was in there scoping out network cable drops and pointed it out to him, told him it was a very old, rare mini from D&D. He wasn't very impressed that I knew, but heck, he had no idea what it was, someone had given it to him long ago and he kept it. I figure on making my own Juiblex. That Faceless Horror mini is way, way too "Gibbering Mouther" to be a numbers-filed-off Juiblex. If it was I'd expect some kind of "Faceless Demon Lord" name instead of a more generic name. The Undead Ooze is cool too but I think the homemade version might be nicer. The Grenadier guy will be way too small compared to modern minis. Peter PS - Have fun in Thailand, Gus. It'll be hard being away from the minis but otherwise it sounds like it'll be an adventure.

I could have sworn the official Grenadier name for it was "Floating Horror", as I remember my geeky little friends and I always adding "on a Stick!" whenever it was mentioned.
