Saranthose
The thing is.......do the sculptures simply create on a fancy and whim, or does Reaper provide moderatly stern guidelines? I mean...I know some stuff is sketched out by artist for the sculpters, yet how much. I only ask this because it seems it would be a no brainer for reaper to produce more monsters then what they have been giving us in the past Xamount of months. Moderator Froggy the Great Posted August 14, 2003 Moderator Share Posted August 14, 2003 Knock knock"Who's there?" Land Shark... Hehehehe. I don't think it worked too well.
CripDyke
Um...why does the landshark have a more horizontal-style tail? is it just a fluke? and about monsters YES YES YES. Finish the complete line of demons/devils (and maybe Daemons/ Yugoloths as well) first. I love 'em & you're on a roll...but focus even MORE energy on those wonderful non-humanoid monsters you've been doing so well lately (cloaker, anyone?) Jerry Trapspringer
Yeah well the land shark looks more like a land dolphin hehehe but I understand you have to work with what ya got DS I gotta agree though that more monsters are always cool only thing is the good ol' rust monster problem- like where some company, I don't remember who, got a lil too close to the picture in the AD&D MM with their rust monster figure and found WotC's lawyer's knocking on their door one day. I'm assuming that character figures aren't quite as bad since a fighter is a guy in a suit of armour, where if you do a fgiure of Demongorgon you could run a foul of copyrights. Number of good suggestions there but I'd like to see more aquatic type critters too. Years ago we ran the AD&D module series 'Sea of Blood' and the only figures that really matched the monsters were the old RP Sahugrin (sp?) and a Scrag. We ended up using bears and wolvies for sharks and land elves for sea elves. ???

Crusoe the Painter
I have to disagree with the "Bring out more Big Helmet Knights" suggestion. Too too dumb looking, way too "we can make idiotic GW lookalike figs, we can really, look!". "Heroic 25mm" means these people are already 8 feet tall. Add another 2 feet of helmet on top? You are now 10 tall, giving your opponent a plus to hit you due to size (GURPS rules), and that helm makes a great target, can we say neck snap? Gergle, read the FAQ. "Heroic" scale 28mm is merely the continental European 25mm, they measured 25mm as from toes to eyes. True 25s measured from toes to top of head. The "to the eyes" method was used because napoleonics figures often had big hats, making measuring scale to the top of the head impossible. It just so happens that a 25mm to-the-eyes = 28mm when measured to the head! As side benefit is the extra 3mm allows more detail. ( GW didn't invent the scale, they merely chose an EXISTING historicals scale because of the added potential for detail ) Secondly, have you ever SEEN or WORN a helm? Of course they are big! They need to withstand polaxe blows and other nasty weapons. They're padded inside too. I've seen them in museums, I've worn reproductions. The older 'helm' style helmets probably add 2-4" to your height, ignoring the funking paper-mache heraldry gee-gahs mounted on top. Everyone also seems to complain about the big decorations on top of the helmets, how heavy they must be, etc. Guess what folks, they were made of Paper Mache. Compared to the weight of the helmets, the decorations on top weighed nothing. They rarely lasted a tournament / battle. I giggle when I see people talking cluelessly about this in the GW related forums. They didn't stick the grails and horns and wings on the helmets out of pure fantasy. They are well known fact. They would be paper-mache, designed to further denote the status, lineage, and other information about the wearer. IIRC, some museums in london have preserved examples of these helmet mounted paper mache items. Faded, tattered, and worn, they rarely survived. ( As another point too, medieval armor designers were not stupid, the helmets locked to the body armor, and provided a almost full range of motion in walking plate. Only the older "helms" had real shortcomings in terms of safety and comparative comfort ). The reaper knights by werner klocke are some of the best sculpted out there. Heraldly, funny helmets and all, was important on the battlefiled. The only way for warriors to indentify their leaders and squaddies. also, 3mm in extra height = 160mm in scale height = 16cm = ~4 extra inches. So the difference in real height for a 25mm vs 28mm fig is only 4 inches! Hardly 8 foot tall lumbering giants!
benhamtroll
You forgot the eye tyrant! The only mini IKO that reaper makes that can be called eye tryrant is out. If your FLGS says it not, they are lying to you. I was just listing upcoming NYA monster minis I don't know how I missed the release on this one. He's my man, and I need him now. Kamui K
Thanks Crusoe the Painter. That was real enlightening. I figured as much about the hight and designs. Most of this sounds like common sense to me. I'm just amazed crusaders back then were able to walk around in any variations of metal armor and still pick up a sword and fight. I can't even pick up a sword and swing it more than twice with power behind the swings. Just hand me a bow and arrow please. :p
Frankthedm
Eye moster was out last month at dragglestown 7-17-03 Yep Demon Lasher is Demogorgon http://www.reapermini.com/fantasy....=2716_G
Domni
Please...as acurate as it may be..please don't make 'dangly' bits on the male critters. Loincloths work just fine imo. :p Adventure on the high seas... we've got people building boats and buying/painting pirates, let's see some creatures for those guys and gals to fight !! Exactly! :D
Gergle
Gergle, read the FAQ. "Heroic" scale 28mm is merely the continental European 25mm, they measured 25mm as from toes to eyes. OK I have "2306: Lor Gorna Wizard of Kjord" right in front of me here. I admit, he is one of the taller figs, but there are taller. From his toes to his eyes, as I have been instructed to measure, it looks like 34mm to me. I'm not using a precision instrument here, it may be off a bit, but still, if 25mm at eye level = 6 feet, 34/25= 1.36, 6 feet * 1.36 = 8.16 feet. About 8 foot 2 inches. If 28mm to eye level is 6 feet, he's still 7 foot 3". "2045: Torin the Stealthy" At eye level, looks like 29mm to me. Now, he's in a slight crouch, but I'll skip that. As is, 29/25 = 1.16 1.16 * 6 = 6.96 feet. Our friend Torin is 6 feet, 11.5 inches. Crouched. 16 cm = 6.3 inches, not 4, by the way. And frankly, I don't gives a rat's heinie what some froo froo Frenchmen at a pretend fight may have glued on his head.
Crusoe the Painter
Uhm, it's not at eye level. If a 28mm fig is 6 foot at top of head, it's 5.5 feet at eye level, or so... Actually, 28mm is ~1/60 scale, so simply measure the height and go from there. 25mm is almost 1/72 scale...
mannblack
To build on the packs theme. how come there aren't mixed monster packs like a lycanthrope pack where you would have 2 werewolves 2 were rats 2 were bears etc etc. More along th elines of theme packs versus only the army packs. Maybe one like camp animals, Elven city pack, dungeon packs with oozes slims jellies giant spiders and . Wilderness packs by regions like a dessert, mountains, or winged creatures or fae creatures. Just a different marketing idea. But I know ppl would like to see it.
Duke Zazen
"as acurate as it may be..please don't make 'dangly' bits on the male critters. Loincloths work just fine imo. " Well I remember in the old days of Ral Partha and Grenadier being the only minis in town RP had a bunch of orcs in chainmail tunics, and yes, if you look underneath or with some straight on you could see that they were all male, I believe they were Julie Guthrie sculpts, and I also recall a certain RP earth elemental who, well, he could have been Dirk Diggler in "Boogie Nights"
