rgtriplec
So how much pewter do you have to turn in at Reapercon? I have about 80 ounces.
wildbill
I'm not entirely sure. I know I currently have 17 unopened blisters for trade-in. One of them is a Guros, another is the Reven Rhino, another big heavy thing. It won't be near as impressive as last year. Last year I traded in 5 pounds of minis. dewen
Unfortunately, I have never attended. What is the bartering system for trading in pewter? Do you get new models by trading in pewter? If so, at what exchange rate?
haldir
Dewen The exchange is whatever your weight in Reaper minis/metal is, or 1 to 1 exchange, ie give them 1 pound of metal, you get 1 pound of metal of Boneyard stuff, basically the bins of minis before they are packaged (You get your metal weighed first, then you get to shop). It has to be Reaper metal thou, preferably clean of glue & paint, Bryan stated that in anther post somewhere. I'm not sure what my weight is, but it's not gonna be as big this year I know that much, thou I do have the DH large Egyptian treasure & a Warlord Werner ogre in the "slag-bag bound for Rcon" this year, along with allot of CAV minis, so who knows. I need to get my traditional pick-up of kobolds thou!!!! Each year I've went (past 3) I've grab at least 2 of each sculpt out of the DH line of kobolds, thou this year I need to grab some of Tre's gobbies as well. Can never have too many of those. Qwyksilver
I'm coming in around 9 lbs right now. I didn't go last year, I got a few good lots of scrap off eBay, and I decided to purge some of my shelf of shame recently since my daughter is now fully taking over the second bedroom since she's on the verge of escaping her crib with regularity. A few CAV and a dragon or two will wipe that out real fast

Helltown
I've got two minis and a couple of tabs from Warlord sprues in a little baggy in my suitcase. If I'm lucky they weigh as much as one Lil' Death, but otherwise I'm gonna be spending a lot of money to build my checkers set.
rgtriplec
So do the minis need to be stripped to bare metal befoe the trade? Is only Reaper pewter used or are other companies minis used also? What is the exchange rate? I have stuff to get rid of and am considering coming to Reapercon this coming year. I can't speak for what policies will be in place for ReaperCon 2008, but in all previous ReaperCon's, these were the rules: Minis did not need to be stripped. They could be fully assembled & fully painted.** We'd take in any companies pewter besides the old lead based stuff and all Confrontation stuff (due to high lead content). (although the first day or two of RC07 there was some confusion, and some of the people working the desk thought only Reaper metal was allowed, so some people came away thinking they could only trade in Reaper metal if they happened to stop by the trade desk at the wrong time.) Exchange rate was an ounce for an ounce. Again, these rules may certainly change for RC08, but that's what they were the past few years. **Reaperbryan edit: Note that paint fumes and Cyanoacrylate (Superglue) fumes may be toxic, and we like our casters to live. Unpainted or stripped and with no glue is much preferred. I think this is probably pretty official it was from Gus, and Brian edited it without noting anything about Gus's explanation of other companies metals. So probably any newer lead free pewter is cool. I do have a question about the bins though, how are they labeled. For instance if a model has three parts are they in the seperate bins or the same? Like if I want dhl0001 and it has part a, b, c, and d are they in a dhl0001 bin or four seperate or is it just a mountain of minis in the parking lot that you dig into like a dwarf miner hoping to strike gold:)
Qwyksilver
They are in bins labelled pretty much like they are in the Boneyard.
Warwick
I was told last year it had to be clean and had to be Reaper. Can we get an official answer on this? Not that I own anything other than Reaper, of course, I'm just being curious.
Stubbdog
it definately has to be reaper metal.. the clean part not sure on...
Inarah
I've got 2+ oz of scrap (sprue, chopped up stuff, etc) and over a dozen old, unwanted, or duplicate minis to trade in. I will probably only bring half of it this year as I haven't seen a lot in the new figure offerings that I want, that I know I can get from the bits bins. Enchantra
I haven't weighed mine yet, but part of it was collected at Rcon06 and some of it is bits and pieces I've collected since, small sprues, slag, oddly molded parts, unwanted bits from various minis, and a few actual minis that I got in a trade with someone that I accepted for the trade, but in all seriousness I'm not excited about - so they're getting traded in for some fun in the boneyard. The Boneyard is probably the miniature painter's equivalent to a candy shop IMHO. And being able to buy by the ounce has it's advantages. Castlebuilder
My scale is broken, so I can't get a good idea. The bathroom scale just won't give me a close enough weight. I've bought a lot of minis this year and some of the guys at my shop give me bits from their minis too. I'm guessing that I have a couple pounds..... Reaperbryan
Regarding "non-reaper metal": Our official policy is we do not accept metal from other manufuacturers. However, we have been known to let slide a small quantity of foreign metal into the buckets. I would prefer to see only our stuff. Can I realisticly enforce it? Not really - our exhange folks aren't going to sift through your baggies looking at the bits. But don't be a wiseacre and bring in your whole Cryx legion to slag....
