Goblins have been a historical part of the Reven since the very beginning.

Gnomes are a fairly new addition in the grand scheme of things.

Since Bugbears are already considered goblinoids, I wouldn't mind seeing them allowed in the Noghra list as Adept.

Of course, this is all food for thought for the future.

But there is no reason we can't start working on recipes now :poke:

True, but with Goblins being Evil and Orcs Neutral, a split seems to make sense. Besides, as one of the first factions, the Reven have gotten a bit of the short stick in RC07 and RC08 in favor of other factions. Tough just ain't what it used to be!

I like the EVIL INTENT, rgtriplec! And I don't think that adding Goblin list specific spearmen would be all that bad either.

Not sure about some of the rest.

1) I like the no cmd structure as an interesting spin on this faction

2) U B Leader - allows you to bring 2 grunts instead of 1 Neek - overall, IMHO in this list, more effective

3) We come 2 - allows you to bring a Lunk with every troop - sure he is only a so-so Mage, but gives you a Bolt every turn and likely to hit more than other goblin ranged guys.

Instead of bringing back Runner SA, maybe have Mob Mentality double charge bonus (including Imp. Charge)

I think that the quickest most balanced fix would be to give 'MOB' troops a +1 MA for the same point cost in a Goblin only list. This would give the Goblin Swarm some real bite. They only have 1 real attack anyway, they should make it count.

Is anyone else wondering why, with the model count on the REVEN list, the Goblins didn't get split off into another faction like the BSG?

Cheers,

Brian

IMO, Goblins getting the best field position and being in place to flank is important, because you really need to surround and overwhelm with numbers. The point in the extra speed and Leap are to help a goblin player be able to engulf the enemy from all sides, creating a real horde effect. So its important they are moving their top speed during the first two rounds and not just on the charge. Maybe giving all models Ranger would work.

I think people would object to all goblins geting another MA. Maybe an FA like Sure Shot or Jade Strike that applied to only soldier models. Or if an opponent misses a Defensive strike, then a goblin can strike again taking advantage of its opponents missed opportunity with their quickness. That would be more limited than everyone getting an extra strike or re-roll, and it would put a new wrinkle in the game.

To me the command stuff is bad because it gives the image the sublist has numerous abilities. Maybe if it were condenced into one.

Evil Intent

All models in an all Nohgra Fighting Company gain Smite(Good)1

Missed Opportunities

When defending against a Nohgra model that has the Mob SA or Mob/# SA, if the defender fails a Defensive Strike roll, the attacking Nohgra model get an additional MA, after the conclusion of the Defensive Strikes. The defending model does not get a second chance to defensive strike back.

Goblin Horde

All Leader Models without Mob/# gain Mob/5. Leader models with Mob may add 5 to their existing

Mob capacity. All models gain the Ranger SA, and the Leap SA. All Grunt Models gain the Mob SA. Additionally, Support Bonuses are capped at +5 instead of +3.

Mob Mentality

Whenever a Model with the Mob SA must make a DIS check for making B2B contact with an enemy

Model, it receives +1 to this roll for every friendly Model that is also in B2B contact with the target

Model, and also a +1 bonus to this check for every friendly Model making a charge action against the

same target Model this Action Phase.

An all Goblin list ignores the “Chain of Command” rules, and therefore does not require Captains or a

Warlord (even for large games that normally require a Warlord). Additionally, any Soldier Model may become a Leader and gain Troop Capacity “4-8/1” when leading a Troop with

at least 3 other Models that also use its own original Data Card. The Leader Goblin Model should be

marked in some way to distinguish it from the other Goblins. The Leader model cannot take equipment

restricted to Leader models.

Goblin Clans

The following models can be fielded only in a Noghra Sublist:

Goblin Worm Bait, Adept

Goblin Line Smashers, Adept

Goblin Flingers, Adept

Goblin Wolves

Hobgoblin Warriors

Red Cap Spearmen

I think they want Reven to be a confederation of downtrodden tribes and clans. So, as many races as they can pack in there the better. At this point I think it would be hard to seperate the goblins out because many players depend on them in all their default builds. I like the confederacy idea, there are lots of races already represented:

Bulls, Orcs, Beastmen, Goblins, Ogres, Trolls, Harpies, Giants, Cyclopses, Gnolls, Bugbears, HalfOrcs and ettins... all they need now are Kobolds, and Hobgoblins.

That was my thinking when I was going to give Gus the Goblin Faction idea.

I wouldn't mind for the goblins to break off. I wrote a list last year that I was going to suggest to Gus, during the Rage 2008 closed beta. But he seemed a bit overwhelmed trying to stretch the amount of model slots he had between 12 factions, with 2/3 going to the BSG, Lupine and Darkspawn expansions. And I'm not sure Gus loves goblins as we do.

I was thinking let the Reven use the "common" goblins: the Warlord, Neek, Gonda, Lunk, Skralla, Beastriders, Rangers, Skeeters and Warriors, but make a Nohgra Reven of nothing but goblins, mountain trolls and hill giants. There were common, black, hob and redcap goblins in my list. They hated dwarfs and had Smite(Dwarf)1.

I'd be pretty PO'd at a goblin faction split, I have 40+ goblin, none of which were bought with the intention of ever being used in a Noghra sub-list. I've got little problem with expanding the current sub-faction, but Goblins are written heavily into the Reven fluff. I will only speak for myself in saying that if Goblins were removed from the Reven I'd throw my tattered Reaper fanboy towel in as it would essentially make my models obsolete given that I have little intention of playing the Noghra as anything but a novelty. Anyway, I can't see it ever happening so it really isn't an issue.

I agree with Qwyk, if you want a beefy model I'd support the inclusion of BugBears for sure.

Smite(good)/1 is pretty mediocre given it works only against a very limited number of factions (not that I am against the idea, it could be fitting). You'd have to back it up with something else worthwhile.

The big problem with 1 track models is designing them, they are very difficult to point accurately. I saw many many versions of several of the new Goblins before the RC08 versions were finalized.

The point costing model tends to produce aberrant results when dealing with low damage track models (especially if they have lots of special abilities) or with really powerful models.

I hope, going forward, that the designers will make models with 3-5 damage tracks and only a few special abilities the required backbone build of all armies. Either that, or the entire point costing model will need to be reconstructed.

Bugbears are a great idea. The addition of Hobgoblins and Goblin Wolves would be simple since they have nice DHL sculpts of both. There are also lots of DHL trolls that look very similar a couple of the Marsh trolls, the matron and the really big Battle Troll all have that goblinoid pointy ear, long nosed look. Not quite sure what the Bakarathi Hunter is but it looks very goblinlike. The new LE goblins could be a Flinger, Line Smasher and Spearmen.

If the current goblins with models were allowed to be used by Reven as well as in a goblin faction, I'd love to see a Nohgra Reven.

OK, I know I've said this before, but I've actually painted a model and mean it this time (after I finish moving that is). I'm going to play Warlord but need to round out my forces. Currently I have the old Reven starter box (Varaug, Ombur, Lurgh, 8 Bull Orc Fighters, and a cute little mini carrion crawler familiar), Kharg (alt sculpt), a blister of 4 Skeeters, and a Hill Giant. I'm looking at pushing this to 1000 points. my plan is to use the Legendary Encounters stuff as much as I can to cut down on paint time, So I'm looking at the Gnolls and Black Orcs (for the "regular" Orcs) and Goblins. (Yes, I know the Goblins and Gnolls aren't available yet.) I'm probably going to stick with the Reven default list rather than one of the sublists. Any ideas?

Plastic orc spearmen. No painting required, and they're a good addition to just about any army list.

I'm looking forward to adding LE to my reven. The ettin, with either trolls or ogres can fill that really big soldier gap. And the ogre and troll can be used as outriders. The orc spearmen are great, and the orc archer can be used as bull archers. The goblins and gnolls will also be very useful. You could even use the Wardogs for beastriders.

I like the Bull Orc sculpts so will use the metals for them and the LE orcs for the regular orcs, which conveniently come in sword&shield, spear, and bow sculpts.

I used to be a purist, but now... not so much. I guess price wins out with me. Here is a list of models I would have bought for Warlord, even if the LE line weren't around.

The Worm, Ettin, and Minotaur would be about $60 from DHL. But the LE versions are about $18.

With the leftover cash I can get 3 x trolls, 3 x ogres and 3 triple packs of goblins.

No plastics will enter my army. I'm a purest

That's fine, I like metal too. But CAV is my main game and I'd rather paint for that. And as pointed out, I can fill out my forces at less expense.

Another question...

Hill Giant + Teleport = good idea?

I would seem to think that would be a good way to take out specific single models or distract and delay a main troop by placing such a threat to the rear. I realize that Hilly would be at a disadvantage against a large troop as most if not all would be able to establish B2B when they activate.

The problem with Hill Giant and Teleport is that the caster and Hill Giant can't activate at the same time as part of the same unit. So if you teleport a Solo like the Hill Giant you have to leave him out in the cold until his next activation all vulnerable.

Better to use teleport on a model like Varaug who can activate as part of the casting clerics troop, so you cast teleport and initiate melee afterwards before your opponent can activate and do anything about it.

Kiakara + Bloodmane or Gaaguk would be a great combination I think.
