Reven

Recommended Posts

Wow dude! You really wan to splat som gobbos don'tcha! I will be happy to give you that chance. Plus, it changes things up for me... a new army and all.

I'll check with the others and see when they can do it after 1/6/09.

Goblins are who I want to play, they are why I bought into Reven. I just want them to have models and abilities equal to everyone else. IMO they are the worst sub-list or faction in the game hands down.

Granted they can be competitive if you add familiars to your casters, take 2 or 3 giants, some harpies and a couple troops of beastriders. I think a lot of a goblin army's appeal is the horde aspect and the example I just gave is not a horde army... its a giant army that is supplemented with cav and magic.

Well I've only got one giant, two beast riders, three warriors, three rangers, four skeeters, eleven harpies, Neek, Elfibbits, Ogg, Gonda, Lunk x 2, Skralla.

I am also looking into getting some more rangers and warriors and maybe a couple of beast riders, and the only substitution I'm now considdering is using the goblin ninjas as line smashers, so dont expect tons of hill giants.

I'm really just looking forward to a fun game and some goblin inspired hilarity.:upside:

As far as the force goes I am going to use the tournament scenarios from reaper games. there are six scenarios. We will randomize and pick one, so no one can design a force to specifically beat the scenario ahead of time.

If everyone designs one scenario, each player can only practice beating 1 of 6, which is what 17%? I'll take the odds and trust everyone to use the honor system. I played the ReaperCon scenarios last year... I played 4 total and was unimpressed with them.

If we have multiple different scenarios and randomly pick no one can be sure what they will be playing and that should encourage a multi-purpose build.

I'd say go ahead and post all the scenario ideas. At least locally, scenarios really help freshen up the game play.

I just thought about the Reaper con scenarios because they were already made, and I for one have never played them.

I've Checked and Sat. 01-24-09 seems to be a good day to have the game at Krystal Keep.

I started a separate thread for the game.

Why do you want a line smasher with no SAs?

Because SAs cost points and aren't real useful on this model. Berserker is kind of useless with the +Dis faction ability and a guy with DV5 doesn't worry about leaving combat. Frenzy... seriously. Deflect/2 so now they have a DV7 still dead 75% of the time. SAs on them are a bad allocation of funds, they should be like 6 points with no Sas. A pure goblin, something you can field 250 of in a 1500 game. So, what if the elfs or razig kill 60 in each of the first two turns they'll be swarming with 100 -150 in turn three. Make the goblins a horde army.

Maybe that was what was being avoided. Warlord game play without excessive use of area effect magic would find such an army almost impossible to deal with, especially in a five round tourney. Warlord is a schirmish game not a large scale war game.

I'm sure your argument is one that tossed around a lot when the clans were made last year, but it probably is just a lot of nervous talk.

It would be a gimmick army that would be beatable in many ways.

I also doubt many people would shell out the money to field 250 models that's 28 army packs. From Reaper that's $1100 before shipping.

Do you have 250 models of any faction? I don't.

I definitly don't have 250 Warlord goblins. Now I do have a few GW and Privateer armies that are 250 models strong or larger, but the games make large scale play more practical.

Still, my Reven could be a true horde if I could field every model I owned. The game, however, would be an all day event, maybe even longer, and unit activation would become confusing. I once tried a 3,000 point game and It was very confusing. We kept losing track of which units had activated.

Yeah troops could be a problem.

With maxed out Neek troops it would only be 11 troops. I've played 2000 pt Bulls where I had nearly that many. My bulls are painted Green, olive, blue, red, brown and pinkish to cut down on confusion.

I forgot to tell you that I found an old loophole for goblins, that Gus is changing in Rage 2009. Gonda the cleric has mob so you can take him/her as a grunt. So I guess the goblins have Hospitailers until April.

It would be fun to field like 40 clerics for one game.

Imagine if it had been Lunk. You could have Neek with 14 Lunks each with 4 fireballs...
