kristof65
So, I just found out GW is releasing 40k 5th edition on July 12th. I haven't heard much on rumours for the new edition (haven't been looking for them, either, though), and was wondering what the folk here had heard and/or confirmed about it? Brushmaster
Bell of Lost Souls has all the latest guff but as with rumours , take it with a pinch of salt until you see the book actually in your hands . Release date - approx July 5 .

Oh, I know. That's why I asked here, rather than the 40k specific sites - most of those sites, you have to deal with not only the rumors, but the over reaction to the tiniest rumour. I'd rather not wade through all that crap looking for the rumours themselves. Release date - approx July 5 . Well, they must be pretty comfortable with the release date now, since they put a countdown timer on their site: GW's 40k 5e Countdown Timer July 12th, supposedly. Doombringer
i know im looking forward to it. ill probably pick up two sets and have a pretty decent marine and ork force from what i hear they are putting in the boxes. supposedly... Marines: Captain with powerfist tactical squad a 5 man Terminator squad Dreadnought (only 2 pieces!?!). Some or all of the models have been hinted at having Ultramarines iconography Orks: Warboss twenty Ork boyz (like the four man Ork boys set) twenty Grotz three Deff Koptas. oh yeah, and its 50 dollars. Lars Porsenna
That's the new starter set. The only issue I have is that its orks. Hate GW's orks (if only I can do an all-Grot/Gretchen army...) Most of the rumors I've heard is tweaks to the rules, not an overwhelming chnage. Marines may get plastic droppods, and there may be new plastic scouts on bikes... Damon. armydillo978
*Sigh* ANOTHER new GW edition? What, did the 4th edition breakdown from last years issue? I'll be interested in seeing what changes they make, but I won't be shelling out another 40$ bucks for it. I'd rather save it and get the new Wings of War WWII minies coming out this fall. Lars Porsenna
Of course the other option would be to judge the game based on its own merits and whether it actually imrpoves gameplay or not... Damon.
kristof65
I never bought into 4th edition myself because I stopped playing for years. Was thinking about it a couple months ago, now I'm glad I held out. I didn't like the change from 2 to 3, 4 fixed some of those issues, but brought new ones as with it. I'm kind of curious to see what changes 5 brings.
Sergeant_Crunch
Crap, just as I was about to put my 4th Ed book up on eBay. Maybe I can bundle it with the 3rd Ed book and call it a collector's set.
kristof65
Well, you're likely to get more for it now than in two months when everyone unloads theirs.
SOldcorn
Isn't this the edition where to keep things simple as well as everyone moving 6 inches, everyone now hits on a 4+, wounds on 4+ and saves on 4+ I am glad I lost interest in 40K years ago, now I just paint the odd marine when I feel like it as I think they look cool. armydillo978
Of course the other option would be to judge the game based on its own merits and whether it actually imrpoves gameplay or not... Damon. Well, now your just talking crazy talk. What next, we bundle our 4th edition book with our 3rd edition book and sell them as a collectors set? Oops, sorry, I see someone beat me to it. What torks me is they just got the new Ork books in at Rhubarb, and now with rumors of a 5th ed coming out. *Sigh* That just irks my RTT mind. It was bad enough trying to calm down my 3rd Ed Orks; they didn't get along at all with my 4th Ed Orks. Total chaos. Now, 5th ed? Oh vey. What's a clam to do? sethohman
*Sigh* ANOTHER new GW edition? What, did the 4th edition breakdown from last years issue? Why would we buy into a game with substantial rules overhaul every year? Oh yeah - I have - Warlord and CAV. Granted, Reaper does it for free, but as long as it is good for the game, I say why not. I liked 3rd edition, but not 4th. 5th can't really be any worse. Mike
Forlorn Hope
5th is worse only in the sense that it costs 40.00 more, and I haven't even played the Daemonhunters I have for fourth edition. Also, I have to say, improvement is not always a given, and I am still a small, bitter man about the new WHF and the decidedly goofy turn that some of rules took (not to mention some of the armies, which are also more goofy-assed). kristof65
<sigh> I'm going to go on a micro rant here, not necessarily directed at GW, just something that I thought of re-reading Doombringer's post. I'm tired of box sets with two armies I don't want. Very rarely has any "starter" game ever come with two armies that I want. Why can't GW do starter sets for each army individually? The rules, templates, and a core of models for one army, maybe a piece of scenery or two. CCGs have been doing it for years, people are used to the concept now. EDITED to clarify my intent.
