Playing Terrans you always need lots of FiSTers. Your opponent will quickly figure out they're relatively easy to kill and doing so will deprive you of your Doctrine. The problem is that to benefit from them you have to expose the FiSTer and that usually drastically shortens their lifespan. The clarification that you can FiST at any point along your move, helps though.

Even though I don't normally play with Terrans, now that a six stand rifle section only costs about 300 points, adding another sixty for FiST isn't much of a stretch. Give 'em orbital drop training for added fun. Alternatively you could go with a recon or specialist section with FiST models, of which some are hard. If you're looking for disposable heroes for a first turn strike and not much else, a recon section of six Nomad's would cost you 702 points, plus the 250 points worth of strikes you'd have to pay for. The MT Ryoshi would work, though they're more expensive. They'd make a good counter to an infantry rush though with the combo of their shredder DFMs, FA-45, and Avenger/3, same with the Sabre, though Assault might be overkill. The Stilletto is quite cheap and would make for a good CAV harasser after the strikes are gone, and are actually fairly survivable if they aren't subjected to intense focus and make good use of cover. The faction specific Ashigaru and Talon would most likely be overkill as far as unit SA's if all you want to do is call in strikes. Not to mention one of them would be 1/10th of your total points. (I'm assuming this is for the tournament)

All good points, though I would point out that the Ashigaru, Talon, and Ryoshi also serve a dual role as an ECM unit. This both justifies their cost and makes it occasionally difficult to 'spare' an action to call in a FiST strike. I like the Talon in my FS section. It has an IA tube to lend in, can ECM, EST, and/or FiST and usually isn't overly worried about moving.

How've you guys been playing the artillery superiority doctrine with the free arty strike if you don't have any FiST equipped units in your force?

Silly Terran...

If your not taking any infantry with you then your not using your doctrine to its fullest potential since all infanrty get a free FiST SA.

This is one of my pet peeves. I don't like the way FiST is limited to Infantry or specialist vehicles, ESPECIALLY since those are always the FIRST things my opponents go after. It never fails, NOT ONE TIME, when people see I am playing Terrans, they go through the data card files to see what vehicles or Cavs I have that could have FiST, those units and my Infantry are ALWAYS the first thing they go after. I want to know why the FiST upgrade is not available to vehicles or Cavs? Make it the prerequisite of BOTH Terran doctrines, a built in Achilles Heel, and then cripple the doctrines by making the upgrade limited.

Adon isn't limited in what vehicles or units can have ECM/ESM why are Terran players punished? One of the first House Rules my new group instituted is allowing FiST to be upgraded for more than Infantry. Yeah, I know a House Rule, Whoopee. For those of us who DON'T always take Infantry or have the points for specialist vehicles it allows more survivability for my troops. For what is supposed to be a balanced game, there are an awful lot of rules that make it damn hard to play Cav only or Vehicle only scenarios. It seems like people are writing rules at whim that force players to play the game a certain way.

That is really getting old.

JMHO.

"Can have" and "can use" ECM/EST are totally different things. Pods on non-recon units aren't that effective--so yes, Adon does have a limited selection as well, they have to pick electronics support units.

Also, I've always felt that the Terrans had plenty of FiST options. There are a lot of cheap open market FiSTers--Dragonfly, Longbow, Stiletto, plus all of their electronics models.

CAV is suppose to be a combine arms game so yeah your going to have rules that encourage a mix of units. If you had one unit that could do everything then what would be the point of having any other units?

I play Terrans and make heavy use of strikes. I also use lots of infantry to call it in. Cavs and Tanks are there to support my infantry. I like an infantry swarm with jump packs or drop, AT 23's and lots of strikes. Add a few Cav's or Tanks and its good to go.

Mech infantry is nice too. Lots of Tsukai's full of little dudes with big guns and Fist.

I play Terrans succesfully all the time with no FiST units.. just wondering.

...how/why? So all you get are the faction models and maybe the two-flight section rule? Doesn't seem like it should be competitive, but I guess it's possible.

::): It's way more than possible.
