Shakandara
That chocolate cheesecake on Saturday was amazingly good, and I hate cheesecake. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of cheesecake myself, but I do an ok job of making them. Glad you were able to get a slice, as they went pretty fast. Yep that was me. Glad he got the fig, he'll do well with it. :) Thanks, Maya. That was quite an intense bidding war. Preliminary concept art has already been submitted, so the DYOM is already in progress. Watch for it... um... in the near future. ~v

haldir
Best part of the Con was being able to BS with people over nothing or heck minis of all things.I love seeing everyone again & I had a overall great time. Heck I even entered the paint contest year. Yes it was a goofy mini, but I also didn't care if I won or if they lost the mini during judging, just the challenge for me to get a mini into the contest was awarding enough for me & of course I had fun doing it. & of course there is SCon, awesome time as well with that. I'd like to thank BW & all involved for letting us have our annual after the con con get together. I'll try & make it next year! I just wish I would have brought my bag of swag points for the auction, I could have been playing with the entire set of new Pro-Paints right now!!! ha ha Also, congrats to all the winners of the painting contests & to all the auction winners, surprisingly how low most of the bids were for things this year & yes, Vince I will pick up a copy when your DYO mini comes out, congrats!! tabascojunkie
Yeah, Randy was probably the only person ever to get a mini into a paint contest that was still bare metal 20 minutes before the entry deadline.
Mr. Jubilee
This was my second ReaperCon and even after last year (which was great fun) I had more fun this time than I expected to. It came down to really great people, some behind the scenes and some mingling in with us unknowns. I spent the first two days finishing up my piece for the painting contest, and the last two days vowing to do better next year. Some of the things I learned in class will help! I might try to get into the Warlord tournament next year, too. I just need to find someone locally that I can play with so that I know what I'm doing! ixminis
Heck I even entered the paint contest year. FYI, all judges did agree that it was "Best in Squirrel"
dargrin
Heck I even entered the paint contest year. FYI, all judges did agree that it was "Best in Squirrel" Where are the pictures for this? Did I miss them somewhere?
ixminis
Haldir (I don't look like my Avatar Haldir) needs to post a piccie of his squirrel (as squirrel was not an official category)
Sharky
* The fact that Reaper allowed people to turn in swag points for auction bucks. Oho! That's where everyone got their multithousands of Reaper Bucks from - I must have missed that somewhere. Oh well, I needed a new hat to cover my shiny dome anyway. Qwyksilver
My personal favorite thing about Randy's mini. The teeny little numbered stickers the judges use to number the pieces so they are anonymous.... Bigger than the mini itself
haldir
I'll get pics of him up sometime this week but the back-story of this is-- I've been going to RCon since 05 & I keep telling myself I'll enter in at least 1 category, but of course I never do. So as I was thumbing through the Casketworks looking for ideas to spend my metal trade in (at the time I had around 60 to 70 oz left), but as ReaperBryan comes around saying "20 minutes for deadline entries" I pass the DHL 2657 (ie the familiars) & that is when it hits me. So I write the number on my hand, then rush over to the bits. I find get the sprue, take it up to the scale, clip the squirrel off & then weigh it (yes it had weight to it, like .01 or something like that. Get it back to my seat, take my exacto & scrape off the base to make it sit flat, then stick it onto the paint pot I use as a holder, ready for paint & I relize no primer. The day before I bought the Pro Paint brush on primer for anther mini I bought in the Asylum (which btw is pretty nice), so I prime the figure & use the swing lamp to dry it (at this time Jester walks past & asked "What the heck are you doing?"--show him the mini, "ahhhh". After the primer was dry I proceeded to apply the colors (which surprisingly were around 10 colors), during the painting, the green I used to base the base was too watery & with the way I was holding the mini, it started to flow around the nut the squrrel is holding & the bottom of the squirrel. I had to do do a blend of the brown & green in those areas, which turned out pretty good + the nut got lined in the process. Dotted the nose & made his eyes (he has that creepy 1 bug-eyed look going + they are white with pink pupils). I was gonna slap him onto a Warlord base, but I didn't have any putty, so off he went, turned him in & that is when Flynn said "The sticker is bigger then the mini". So in the span of concept to turn in it was around 20 minutes. Quite proud of that bit, even if it is a familiar, but for me, heck that is almost like painting a dragon. Ha Ha. Glad people liked him & at least some people got the reason behind why he was in the contest. RM (& yes I did keep the sticker, as its now part of the mini )
psyberwolfe1
OMFG!!! Haldir I loved your squirel. It was too priceless.
Kheprera
Yeah, I think next year we're all going to try and enter the contest. Yes, I plan on finishing a mini this year. Somehow. My four year old will be finished with his in no time, but he wants to enter. Michael we'll wait a bit on, but Star Drifter is already working away on his entry. Me, I haven't decided what I'm going to enter. I might go the squirrel familiar route, though. Sounds like the kind of time I'll have to devote to it. Midnight Lurker
I've heard more than one person saying they want to follow in Randy's shoes... maybe they need a new category? DHL Tiny? Jen
paintminion
Perhaps we need to add a "Familiar" category? Or is everyone just thinking "Squirrel"?
