Monster of the Week, Part 8

I present for your edification #03099, Klaus Copperthumb by Werner Klocke. Some may recall seeing me work on him at the paint and take table at Reapercon. I still need to work on my blending, but I am very pleased with the outcome. I started him after Anne's color theory class, and it shows. I even got professional help from Marike on some color choices. I had been planning to pick this guy up for a while, and they were just giving them away at the con, go figure (no pun intended). Please witness my first ever attempt at NMM on the hilt of the sword in his right hand. As always CCW welcome.

I dunno.. freehand on a cloak that a rogue would be wearing.. seems a tad conspicuous :p

I do like the colour choices. The shadows looks very good, the highlight on the cloak looks like it could do with some more blending - but you already mentioned that :)

Thanks all for the comments, freehand will have to wait a while. The camera is a Kodak Z612, The (integral) lens is a Variogon 35mm-420mm (equivalent) AF 12x Optical Zoom. If that isn't what you are looking for, then I don't know the answer. (being fairly ignorant of these things). I did have the camera on a tripod and use the delay feature to cut down on the camera shake, and corrected levels somewhat in GIMP. Next up is definitely kobolds, as I seem to have 10 of them to paint. Looks like an excellent time to practice the speed painting skills taught to me by the late Robert "Jester" Cruse. ::P:

What kind of bulbs are you using for lights when you take your pictures. They look like the regular incandescent/tungsten, so it has a very yellow-orange cast to it.

I admit to playing. Here's what I came up with:

I do like the colors you used.

I use two lights at my painting desk/photography studio ::P: One "Reveal" daylight incandescent and one circular florescent. That isn't likely to change anytime soon, but I do live in Florida, the partly Sunny state, so maybe next time I'll try outside.

Are those the only lights in the room? I'm guessing not and the bulbs in the overhead lighting (ambient lighting) is affecting your color as well.

You'd be better off having all the lights the same kind. Mixing can cause huge fluctuation's. If you can't, then don't be shy in GIMP to adjust the color as much as you need to.

Have you tried manually setting your white balance?

Thinking back, I think they were the only lights in the room at the time. According to the first post, it was nearly 10pm when I posted the pictures, which was only a few minutes after I took them, I was having trouble getting to sleep (early to bed, early to rise -_- ), so the overhead lights were probably off. I'm sure I could GIMP the pics more next time. I have only the bases to finish on 2 kobolds so watch for part 9 in the next couple of days. Should have finished them today, but spent the day cleaning with the wife. Darn domesticity. ::D:
