mathewbaich
hello! I am hunting for feedback on this one. Took me about two weeks to complete this. Tell me what you guys think I could have done better! Thanks!
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted June 25, 2008 Moderator Share Posted June 25, 2008 I mean, it is creepy, but it's also really good. The bloodstains look natural as opposed to painted on, and I love how smooth the fabric is.
Angorak
Very very nice...great colors and the bloodstains are really good
morganm
A little creepy but I take it that was the intent. Love the painting. The shiny trim on the robes really pops out. Everything is blended so smooth!
vejlin
I love it. The only thing that stands out in a bad way IMO is that I feel the transitions from shade to highlight are more abrupt (and not as natural looking) on the hood than on the rest of her. But that's minor, it looks great and very creepy. Edited June 25, 2008 by vejlin
vutpakdi
Uh, yes, creepy, but wasn't that the intent? Looks quite good. I really like what you've done with the robe/cloak as well. Ron
tombwalker
Excellent painting. The shadings great. Looks like she's saying, "You can't have it till you clean up!"
Artists Wren Posted June 25, 2008 Artists Share Posted June 25, 2008 Very atmospheric, and some terrific paint work in this! Overall there's a really nice sense of light on this, particularly on the sleeve in the rear view and the skin of the assistant. The hood doesn't seem to quite match up to that, relatively shallow folds have as deep of shadowing as the underside of the sleeve, and overall the hood seems dark. There are some lovely smooth transitions on this, though it looks like the top edge highlight on some folds is maybe a little stark a transition. Both the faces are terrific and I like the cracks in the assistant a lot.
PurityThruFire
Creepy is good. I think the piece looks amazing, the blood especially came out realistic.

Ishil
Anything I said would just be "I agree." Superb. Ishil
Reaperbryan
It's a very different spin on this model - I'd never envisioned her as the homocidal type.... It is really neat to see a different take.
MamaGeek
I agree, it is very beautifully done, and quite horrific. May I ask what technique you used for the blood stains? I have a half-orc barb figure I'm planning on painting soon, and I think a few bloodstains would add a real flair to the figure.
mathewbaich
@MammaGeek: I used a few different colors for my blood recipe. For the dried blood, I used the RMS bloodstain red mixed with a tiny bit of blackened brown then a little red ink thinned down to a somewhat heavy wash. For the fresher blood, I added more bloodstain red to my mix with some gloss varnish as well. As always with blood, less is more (usually )
