Starmada- Dreadnoughts

Recommended Posts

Lookie here.

The folks at Majestic 12 have come up with a cool twist. Dreadnought is a supplement to use Starmada for World War 1 wet navy conflicts. Pretty cool.

I've thought about trying some naval games, but nah, not another game or ruleset. This is using rules I already know, so I'll check it out. Have to use Cold Navy ships and a starmat though. ::):

I saw the announcement on their forum. Let us now how it plays. Mongoose did something similar with B5 A Call to Arms and Victory at Sea. Both games being derivatives of Battlefleet Gothic. Seekrieg 5 is the rules set of choice around here for naval, but after playing a "demo" for 2 hours I still didn't understand how the game worked, and that was with the authors at the table. I like General Quarters 2, nice and simple, and cheap.

Sounds like it might be right up my alley. Any talk about naval warfare usually centers around WWII, and that's when I start drifting off... But anything that involved pre- and WWI era naval warfare...now we're talking! Imagine, refighting the Battle of Jutland, the big guns of the dreadnaughts flashing in the North Atlantic twilight and night...gives me goosebumps!

Damon.

I love Starmada, so I'm sure it can't be bad. I'll play it a bit and report back.

Played Starmada: Dreadnoughts, and its awesome! Fast and fun, just the way I like my naval games.

I still prefer their Grand Fleets systems for smaller actions, as its more detailed and realistic. But if I'm in the mood just to blow stuff up. . . or if I want to run a big fleet action, Starmada: Dreadnoughts will fit the bill just fine.

In fact, I'm giving serious thought to running Jutland at GenCon 2009 using Starmada: Dreadnoughts. THAT would be a good time!

Anyway, if anybody has questions, just let me know!

That's what I like about Starmada, it plays quick without bogging down.

I got my copy in the mail last Saturday but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. There are some things in it I really like, like the dual mode fighters. Basically it simulates a regular fighter that can carry a couple of bombs or some such. Before your fighters only had one mode of attack. I'll definitely be using that one for some starships.
