papabees
How does this play? Is it fun? Good for younger kids?
sethohman
I thought it was pretty good. My young ones (6 and 7) understand the basics of the game (at least last March when I played it - been deployed since then). I liked it myself, too. Fairly simple, but tactically sound. Things usually need to work together and combine shots. And high Force characters are usually very tough to kill - as they should be. Grunts go down fast. And it has Storm Troopers! Nanite
It's a great introduciton for kids, or non tabletop gaming friends. Some of the big vehicles are pretty excellent too. But, buy on ebay. The minis are lousy, and expensive. Rules bog down fast, and there is an over-abundance of special rules.
Sergeant_Crunch
I was just reading the rules yesterday. Decided to get it for my second son for his 9th birthday. So then I went out and got the AT-AT on Ebay for. Why? Cuz it's freakin' AT-AT man! What 9 year old wouldn't want an AT-AT? (or 33 year old geek for that matter )
spiritual_exorcist
Worthwhile, if nothing else, the figures might be shifty but in the hands of a 9 year old with imagination they are fantastic toys. The game is essentially a WotC D20 game, so it is a decent introduction into RPG combat too. I can't say I own any, but I sure as heck played it any time anyone brought it out, nothing better than pushing around little storm troopers. herzogbrian
It is a reasonable set of squad-on-squad rules. Actually have several copies of them about place from when my group broke up (graduation will do that!!). E-me off line (herzogbrianATearthlinkDOTcom) if you want any of the books. Also have some of the old WEG minis about the place as well.
warlordgarou
Actually, I keep meaning to buy up a lot of the WOTC figs and use them for the old WEG "Star Wars Miniatures" rules. I thought those were much better, but they don't have anyone or anything from the second trilogy.
armydillo978
The mini's are Golden Deamon winners of course, but they're not worse than alot of average gamer paint jobs. The rules have good and bad spots. It's not a bad game, worse than some, better than others. BUT, it does have clone troopers and that makes it bad butt. And the new Arc Trooper Sniper for the Nov Clone Wars set is nice.
Sergeant_Crunch
Easy rules is why I'm getting them for my son. He'll be able to pick them up without much of a fuss. As long as we have fun with it is the key point.
DjinnWing
Are y'all talking about the minis or the spaceship minis?
robertsjf
minis. Why, how are the starship minis and rules?
Lars Porsenna
Starship minis=pretty good Starship rules=pretty poor. Unless we'r talking about the card ships, in which case both are pretty poor... Damon.
ds615
Are you asking about the Star Wars Collectible Game? Or Star Wars Miniature Battles? The former is WotC, the latter by West End Games. The WEG game is far, far superior, but may be a bit to involved for some kids. The WotC game is fast and easy, but misses out on a lot of the feel and flavor of the GFFA. Sergeant_Crunch
As expected, he's picked up the basics of the rules, just need to work on basic tactics with him.
