Boomkin
So I am new to the forum and me and my D&D group were thinking of purchasing some of your miniatures to use for our PCs. I do however, have a few questions regarding these figures before we do decide to purchase them: 1) What are they made of (Are they pewter? Plastic? Or some other material?) 2) Are the customablitiy of the figures good (I see you have weapon packs. Would a good majority of the figures be able to use weapons from the weapons pack with an easy amount of conversion?) 3) What actual D&D inspired miniatures do you sell (I saw something that looked like a Carrion Crawler, Demogorgon, and a Marrilith, but are there any more?) Answers to these questions would be very appreciated by me and my group, thank you.
kristof65
1) What are they made of (Are they pewter? Plastic? Or some other material?) Most are pewter, unless you buy from the P65 line, which have lead in them. All of the figures currently in the P65 line are also available in the DHL line, so if you're worried about lead, you can find the same figures in the lead-free alloy. 2) Are the customablitiy of the figures good (I see you have weapon packs. Would a good majority of the figures be able to use weapons from the weapons pack with an easy amount of conversion?) that's going to depend on the figure at hand, and your skill in converting them. IMO, at least half of the figures have easy conversion possibilities, particularly if they are simply weapon swaps. This is a good place to hang out and learn how to do conversions though. 3) What actual D&D inspired miniatures do you sell (I saw something that looked like a Carrion Crawler, Demogorgon, and a Marrilith, but are there any more?) There are quite a few in the line that are definitely inspired by D&D and other 'standard' fantasy races. Some of the more obscure ones won't be there because they are too D&D specific and won't sell well and/or have trademark/copyright issues. Most of them won't be named the same because of trademark issues, but a lot of them are there - things like Beholders and those octopus-faced psion guys are in there (for the life of me, I can't remember their D&D name), just with different names. Best way to know is to just browse the gallery.
Reaperbryan
For Player Character types, there's nearly 1,000 in Dark Heaven Legends, and over 500 in Warlord that are suitable for various flavors of D&D world/campaign/character concept. For Monsters, the search term "Monster" pulls up 137 results, but there's also 54 results for Dragon (which includes some dragonslayers, etc.). Demon pulls up 95 models, Aberration gives you 21, Undead has 110, Orc has 97. And that's just kind of some vague general terms. If you;re looking for some specific creature or PC concept, let me know and I'll see if we make it in any of our lines, and if we don;t you can post it in out "Fantasy Models we'd like to see" thread - and yes, we do use that thread for model ideas. Any number of forumites will tell you that they have had ideas in there realized. And Kristof65 forgot to mention the Legendary Encounters figures, which are pre-painted plastic in non-random, non-blind packaging, so you can order and get the one you want. Customizability varies greatly, but converting your figure is half the fun, I think. And knowing is half the battle! Anyway, Welcome to the boards! Ishil
those octopus-faced psion guys are in there (for the life of me, I can't remember their D&D name) Illithid. Also 3009 Purple Worm, 3023 Worm Corpse (Avatar, Aspect whatever, of Kyuss), 2646 Prince of the Undead (Orcus), 3086 Shadow Prince (Graz'zt), 3208 Brass Bull (gorgon), 2526 & 2690 Owl Bear, 2532 Vulture Demon (vrock), 2760 Jalinrix (erinyes). No doubt others I can't think of off the top of my head. And of course plenty of skeletons, zombies, ghosts, ghouls, orcs, trolls, goblins, dark elves, lizard men, giants, minotaurs, hags, succubi, medusae, vampires, death knights, giant animals, elementals, golems, dragons, demons and so on. Evilbob
If you're looking at how things can be converted: The Craft section on the main page is a good starter Also search for anything in here (well most of it anyways) by Froggy the Great, thats his 'thing' And one of the Casket works had a tutorial on basic weapon swaps in it too. I think its #23, but I'm not possitive. as far as usability in D&D, its what our group has used pretty much exclusivly for years now. (3 out of 5 now and 6 out of 6 in the last one)
McGhiever
Reaper seems very reluctant to equate their figures directly with D&D monsters, I assume for legal reasons. Nevertheless, several figures would serve as good representations of many D&D creatures.
