Princess Sami
Ok, I posted the update photo! Believe me when I say that it looks a lot better in person. I may take another pic tomorrow in the natural light. It's night now so it's not as good! Princess Sami
Amalor Myrnnyx
You should put it in the Show Off forum. That way, you can get advice for everyone :)
Shakandara
Welcome to the forums, Sami! Amalor is correct; you should start a thread in "Show off" to get more feedback regarding your painting, if you want tips and advice. Just a quick review, it looks like you already have pretty good brush control (the paint goes where you want it, and nowhere else), and it also looks like you are doing a pretty good job of thinning your paints (multiple thin coats are better than 1 or two thick ones). Since the picture is a little dark, it is hard to tell if you are doing much highlighting or shading, but I'd suggest that as your next step. Reaper's MSP series of paints are made in "triads" of 3 colors; the mid-tone, a shadow color, and a highlight. When used together, they can be especially helpful to the paint-challenged (like myself) when it comes to making nice-looking shadows and highlights to add depth to a figure. Oh, also, Warlord is not a difficult game to learn to play; the core mechanics for the game can be learned in about 5-10 minutes. I teach people to play the game at conventions all the time, and they get the hang of the game quite quickly. Best thing is to see if there is someone at a FLGS that knows the game already and have them teach you. Again, welcome to the forums! ~v
Princess Sami
Thank you very much! I hope I can learn to play Warlord!! Princess Sami
Catman Jim
Hi Princess, I'm not in STL, but I travel there often on business. I'm actually in Kansas City, I was last in STL on Halloween when a good friend & I went to "The Darkness" (best haunted house I have ever been to!). Whenever I travel, I try to visit the local game stores. I have been to all the "Fantasy Shop" locations, but have never heard of the Miniature Market. Where is that? Princess Sami
Umm... it's a little shop on Watson Rd. It was really tiny, but they're expanding it now. I went there today to get a sealant so my minis wouldn't chip. I'm gonna hold off on spraying them for a while though because i wanna wash and shade them first! I painted Virinia today!! I'm excited! Catman Jim
Thanks Sami, can you get to that pretty quickly from I-44? I fly in to work at a large office complex on Chouteau (has a big checkerboard square on it...) so I'm usually staying downtown right next to the Arch or out at the airport. Princess Sami
It's not directly off of I-44, but if you take 44 to Elm St, then make a right at the light. Take it down until you get to Watson Rd and make a left. It'll be a little store on your right. It's after the giant man statue thing. I love it and they have a ton of stuff! They're also getting a lot more stuff in soon, such as board games and stuff. Not a lot of people know about it, but they have Warhammer 40k games going on Thursday nights. They are only open Wed-Saturday tho. Here is the website: http://www.miniaturemarket.com Princess Sami
LunchBox
Hi Sami...I lived in STL for a while a few years ago, and it had a good gaming scene. We all used to go down the the Hobby Shop on Hampton every Friday, and play 40K 'til the wee hours. A few years back, some drunk kid crashed his car into the store, and they never reopened, as far as I know. It's a shame, because the community seemed to fizzle a bit after that. However, I'm sure those gamers still lurk in the shadows. It was also around that time that the STL gaming site "adeptus basementus" fell off the map. There are some good shops around the area, I would say hit them up, and see if you can get in touch with others. Good luck!
